Putting Things in a Different Light

I have been working on course 905: Special Relationships vs Holy Relationships. It is a wonderful course and I’ve experienced several shifts in perception. One of the sections points out how we project our own sense of guilt onto others. It asks that I think of ways the errors in my brother seem to be hard to understand. I am asked to make note of these errors. Immediately I thought of my ex-husband. We have been divorced for very nearly four years now and I can still list his errors in pretty impressive detail, so I used him to do this exercise.

On October 11th, 2003, a neighbor asked me if I would tutor his eighth grade son, whom the father was afraid might become a high school dropout. The school had been thinking about keeping him in seventh grade for an additional year.

Changing My Priorities

A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 332 was a good one for me. I had decorated a wicker pumpkin for the Thanksgiving holiday and took it to work. I put it on the front desk as a decoration, with the intention of taking it back home when the holiday was over. With all the flowers and other stuff I put into it, not to mention my time and effort, it turned out to be costly.

Holding the Space

Pathways of Light ministers are taught from the first group encounter to “hold the space” for each other. Psychotherapists and counselors are also taught this important concept but not quite so extreme. It is very hard not to want to verbally or physically comfort someone during a painful experience. Holding the Space is so important that we are strongly discouraged not to let ourselves (ego, really) get in the way of some else’s healing. This is a very good spiritual and therapeutic practice.

Sitting at the Feet of the Master

On December 20, 2003 I became certified in Reiki-reflex and Reiki-ssage. One of the requirements for certification was to give 100 hours of documented sessions. To my delight, many of my friends and relatives supported my venture and many “put their feet in my hands.”

I learned so much through the practicing and I loved receiving the helpful feedback from everyone.

Remembering I Am the Light

A Course in Miracles first came to my attention in 1998. I began studying the Text in 1999. I journeyed to Roscoe, New York for an academy class with Ken and Gloria Wapnick in April 1999 and again in August of 1999.

I began a small group study of the Text of the Course in September 1999 at Covenant Community Church, where I serve as an Associate Pastor. In 2001 I completed all the Workbook lessons of the Course for the first time. In September 2002 I journeyed to Ferdinand, Indiana for a week-long silent retreat sponsored by the Roman Catholic “Sisters of St. Benedict.” My goal for the week retreat was to immerse myself in the Text of ACIM. I also conscientiously practiced a few of the Workbook lessons to see if this would be my chosen spiritual path.

Looking Back with Gratitude

At the very top of my favorite holiday activities is the ritual of writing cards to friends and family members. I’m blessed with loved ones far and near, and I treasure this annual opportunity to reach out to those I don’t normally connect with throughout the rest of the year.

This year, as I sat down to begin the process for the very first time, it occurred to me what a very special year it has been, and how many new friends I’ve welcomed into my life, with whom I’ve shared on a very deep level.
