As we discussed this paragraph, the following imagery came to my mind. I used to go to a hypnotherapist to deal with anxiety and depression, so I imagined walking into a hypnotherapist’s office and had an appointment with Dr. ego. Dr. ego told me to lie on the couch and put me into a trance state. It told me that when I walked out of the office I would remember everything he told me and that I would believe it as truth and act from that belief. It told me I was unworthy, guilty, that other’s were to blame for my unhappiness. It told me I had a right to fear the world because it was a dangerous place and I would continually have to defend myself if I was to be safe. It told me to trust no one and to continue to seek his guidance. It told me that peace was impossible because this world was a place of conflict and war. It told me that God was to be feared and that God would punish me with sickness, lack and death. In fact, it told me it was god and that God was dead. Dr. ego never awakened me from the trance and I left the office in a trance fully believing everything I heard in the trance state.

However, I did feel some discomfort and I didn’t understand why. I certainly wasn’t in a state of peace. As I was walking out of the building, I passed by another office that said Dr. Holy Spirit, You are welcome to come in and experience peace.

So, something told me to go into that office. Dr. Holy Spirit gently guided me to lie on the couch. He gently told me I was in a trance state. He knew that because he had many other patients who had come from Dr. ego’s office. He told me he would awaken me from the trance state and return me to a peaceful state and to remembering the Truth of my Reality.

As I was lying there, I heard these beautiful words: “You are innocent… Your Holy Father Who created you loves you… You can never be harmed… God created you as an extension of His Love. You are very holy.

“No harm can ever come from you… You are under the laws of Love and are safe… I, your Holy Spirit, was given to you as the Voice for God… God knew that when you fell into a trance state believing you separated from Him, I was put into your Mind to help you awaken from the trance and to remember the Truth that you are Love and guiltless and Perfect Love.

“Please know that in Perfect Love, there is no lack, sickness or death. God’s Will for you is happiness. Know too that you can come to me anytime. There is nothing to fear. Dr. ego has no power; it’s all a hallucination. It’s a dream. And I am here to awaken you out of the trance state.”

After I left Dr. Holy Spirit’s office I felt such peace. I felt like Sleeping Beauty who just awoke from a long dream after being kissed by prince charming. Holy Spirit is my prince charming Who is awakening me from the ego trance and returning me to the Love and Peace of God.

I love the prayer in Workbook Lesson 228: God has condemned me not. No more do I.

“Father, I was mistaken in myself, because I failed to realize the Source from Which I came. I have not left that Source to enter in a body and to die. My holiness remains a part of me, as I am part of You. And my mistakes about myself is dreams. I let them go today. And I stand ready to receive Your Word alone for what I really am.” (W-pII.228.2:1-6)

So in answer to the question, “Do I have an ego, Am I My ego?” The answer is no, no, no; It is just an hallucinating thought I had while in a trance state and if I give it no power, it has none. All power comes from God who created the Sonship as Perfect Love.
