Being on the Holy Spirit's Payroll -- by Rev. Wenona Thomas

I recently moved to a new city with my partner, Patrick. He found a job with a company close to home and started work as soon as we were settled in. After a few weeks of work it soon became apparent that this was not a job he wanted to continue. He was working twelve to fourteen-hour days and only bringing home around $300 a week. Three weeks ago he quit his job. We've been on the Holy Spirit's payroll ever since.

The first week we frantically searched the classified ads in the newspaper, mailed and faxed resumes, and went on interviews. We didn't have much luck. Aside from doing that, we now had a lot of time on our hands.

I, very ingeniously, used the first week to constantly worry. I built a beautiful picture of my own personal hell, where we were abandoned by God, completely destitute, and on our own.

The week went by with no drastic changes. My imagination was not coming to fruition. The world had not come to an end. We still had all that we needed. We were still somehow able to pay all our bills. My constant worry was doing me no good, and I was getting tired of it.

I finally worked up the courage to go to Holy Spirit. I angrily asked Him why He had not found work for us. I explained to Him that I would be much more willing to follow His guidance if He would find us work. It was just too difficult to sit and read A Course in Miracles when I had real life problems that needed my attention. I tried to tell Him that my time was much better spent reading the classified ads over and over. He didn't agree.

Holy Spirit explained to me that in fact I was already employed by God. He said that I had a very important job. My job was to heal my mind and that through that I heal the world. The job description includes a willingness to learn, practice of the daily lesson from the Workbook, reading the Text regularly, daily meditation, and attending A Course in Miracles study group weekly.

Holy Spirit explained to me that the reason we were out of work at the moment was because we were being given an opportunity to connect with our True Selves. We were being given the chance to accept the gift of joy our true Life in God has to offer.

Being on the Holy Spirit's payroll pays, while being on the ego's payroll only incurs the experience of lack and scarcity. Holy Spirit pays in honor. He honors us by extending the perception of our True Self to us. A Self that is full of abundance and certain of the Truth. He comforts us by gently encouraging us to let go of illusions. He assures us that we are safe at all times, no matter where we are and what is going on in our minds.

Walking with My Friend, Holy Spirit -- by Rev. Christine Anderson

Being at peace is a full time job for me. It is the most important thing I can think of. Peace offers wonderful benefits. In peace I can rise above the battlefield and remember that only love is real. When I am remembering peace, I am "tuned in" and "standing by" for a message from Holy Spirit.

When I am at peace, and I keep my willingness level high, I can recognize a "CFL," which is a Call For Love, within myself and others.

Just recently, I was enjoying the lovely walk to the Pathways mailbox to get the mail. As I was walking, a friend came to mind. I thought about how my phone calls were not being returned and about how this person had said many times, "Don't ever stop being my friend." My efforts to "keep the friendship going" received no response. What kind of a friendship is this!!

I noticed a tall aster plant with purple flowers, leaning out toward me from along the roadside. These flowers, like daisies, have a lot of petals. I thought about playing the old game of "loves me/loves me not." Then I opened to the Truth in my mind that in Reality, we all love one another, being the same One Self. I refused to pull the petals for ego's game of chance love. I let go of the fretting and refused to "play the game" -- the ego game of doubting Oneness.

The next day, I walked the same road with thoughts of the same friend. Wonder where they are? Wonder what they are doing? Wonder who they are with? Wonder if they think about me? Wonder if they are happy and safe? Loved? Wow, I was turning into Wonder Woman! I arrived at the place of the aster plant again and looked it over. My inner dialogue went something like this: "Hey, I'll just point to each flower for the 'loves me/loves me not.' (I paused for a Jesus moment) Absolutely not! I will not do this! Enough of this self torture, leaving love to chance. I really want to know the Truth!" Right there on the road I literally stopped and made a big space in my mind for Love, Real Love.

I realized the presence of my friend. In my mind, I could see their face, their innocence. I heard, "Yes, I am here!" From a deep place in my heart, I communicated, "I know I love you, and I know you love me." In that moment, I experienced a great flooding of a wondrous feeling of REAL LOVE filling my being. Bathed in the Light!

I felt the connection through shared Oneness, the certainty of what has always been and will always be. The experience of expansiveness gave me the assurance that everyone is included in this Love… no one is left out of Love. Everyone is LOVE, even Osama bin Laden.

Later on, as I was driving to town, I wondered if there would be a noticeable "energy vortex" while driving through the place of my healing on the road. Such a silly thought! What came to me was that the "place" of the healing experience was in my own Right Mind, not outside. There is no outside!

I live, move and have my Being in the Mind of God. I have not stopped being a friend, as I remember Oneness and the Love of the One Friend we all are. Holy Spirit used my walk, my willingness and even the aster plant for my healing.

So my friend, if you feel that you've lost someone or even feel 'lost' yourself, there is more than hope for you. There is a promise given by God that no one can be lost , unreachable or out of touch. We keep in touch with each other in the eternal garden of Universal Love. We can meet with Jesus and call anyone from the past or present to come and bathe in this Universal Light of Love. There we celebrate what is only true -- our shared Oneness.

Small Miracle, Large Lesson -- by Rev. Georgeann Medved

In 1985 I drove to Petosky, the beautiful town in northern Michigan, where my father was born. Many relatives, including my father's parents, Victor and Florence, were buried there in old St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. I never visit that area of Michigan without stopping in to pay my respects to them and fill them in on the latest family news.

During that particular trip I located several houses built by relatives who were stone masons and a boarding house where my grandmother worked many years ago. I also visited St. Francis Xavier Church, where family members worshiped many years ago.

On my way to the cemetery the last evening of my vacation, I stopped at a dry goods store and purchased one gigantic, bright and bold red silk rose and one gigantic, bright and bold yellow silk rose to place on my grandparents graves.

At the cemetery, I located and visited the graves of relatives and friends and then, since it was a beautiful summer evening, I stayed at the cemetery for a long time visiting with my grandparents. I always wondered if they could hear me and see me when I went there to visit, but that day I had the sensation that they were really there, listening to me telling them about my joys and sorrows. I was alone and so I could take all the time I wanted to be there with them in that sacred place of peace.

The next morning I left for home feeling a great amount of accomplishment and serenity. Upon arriving home, I noticed splashes of color in my garden that weren't there when I left. When I got out of my car to investigate, I discovered that the splashes of color were exquisite red and yellow roses blooming on two rose bushes planted three years prior to that summer that had never bloomed. My, what a surprising and blessed homecoming!

I had actually planned on digging those rose bushes out and throwing them away later that summer. I was breathless as I humbly accepted that the spirit of my grandparents buried in Petosky had indeed seen and heard me the day before. This was a beautiful, beautiful miracle and proof that God does indeed exist and does indeed work in mysterious ways. In writing this, I remember the words from My Prayer of Love, "Every thought is a prayer that will be answered." My prayers were indeed answered.

Upon sharing the news of this small miracle with a close friend, she told me to treasure this small miracle as a large lesson and to remember that we get back from the universe what we give out. My spiritual lessons are learned in many ways and this was certainly a beautiful and sacred experience. Only the most powerful and loving force in the universe could create this miracle and I choose to call that miracle maker God.

Kitten Innocence -- by Rachel Tredinnick

During a stay at Pathways I was driving to town around dusk. Out of the corner of my eye was a tine, furry face staring at me, from the side of the road. Although new it was a familiar face (I must have sensed our oneness). Without hesitation I pulled over. It was an itty bitty black and white kitten. She was frightened. I stroked her. We were instant pals. I picked her up just as I heard a soft meow from the bushes. Her sister was calling out for Love too.

The next day I brought the precious babies to my meditation spot in the woods. I was struck with a deep sense of peace. As I watched them gently play and softly sleep, I felt Holy Spirit smiling, urging me to see my own innocence in their eyes.

The feeling of seeing my own beauty and innocence through these kittens was indescribable. Tears came. I felt so complete. So loved. I realized these kittens were surely a gift, a symbol of unconditional Love. Their tiny feet, and gentle purr revealed to me who I really am -- an innocent Child of God!

You too share the innocence of a playful kitten! You are the innocence of all life. Thank you beautiful creatures for seeing me free!
