Forgiveness Ends All Suffering and Loss

Forgiveness paints a picture of a world where suffering is over, loss becomes impossible and anger makes no sense. Attack is gone, and madness has an end. What suffering is now conceivable? What loss can be sustained? [In forgiveness] the world becomes a place of joy, abundance, charity and endless giving. It is now so like to Heaven that it quickly is transformed into the light that it reflects. And so the journey which the Son of God began has ended in the light from which he came. Forgiveness comes when we take our thoughts to the Holy Spirit to be undone. Our practice today is to forgive the world for all we thought it was. The truth is we are still one with the Mind of universal Love. We have not changed into a weak, vulnerable, separate entity. Because God created us whole and perfect, we could not change or be different from the pure Love we are eternally.

Through the practice of forgiveness, we let go of what we thought we were. We let go of what we thought our brothers were. We open to the Light of the Holy Spirit within and willingly let our false ideas be undone in the Light of truth. This is why forgiveness ends all suffering and loss.

There Is Nothing to Fear

Our Father, bless our eyes today. We are Your messengers, and we would look upon the glorious reflection of Your Love which shines in everything. We live and move in You alone. We are not separate from Your eternal life. There is no death, for death is not Your Will. And we abide where You have placed us, in the life we share with You and with all living things, to be like You and part of You forever. We accept Your Thoughts as ours, and our will is one with Yours eternally. Amen. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.163.9. See also ACIM Lesson 163 Insights.)

We place our faith in the eternal today… We practice seeing past the constantly changing forms this world of separation offers… We practice remembering we are not separate from the eternal life we live in God…

There truly is nothing to fear because we are safe in God forever… We recognize this is true about ourselves and everyone we meet or even think of today… We truly are children of God… We are very blessed.

The Christ in Us Brings Us Peace

Where could your peace arise but from forgiveness? The Christ in you looks only on the truth, and sees no condemnation that could need forgiveness. He is at peace because He sees no sin. Identify with Him, and what has He that you have not? He is your eyes, your ears, your hands, your feet. How gentle are the sights He sees, the sounds He hears. How beautiful His hand that holds His brother’s, and how lovingly He walks beside him, showing him what can be seen and heard, and where he will see nothing and there is no sound to hear. The Christ in us brings us peace because there is no condemnation in Him. We are learning to identify with the thoughts of the Christ Mind as what our mind truly is. The Christ Mind works through us as we give It our full attention. We are kind and gentle with every brother because we see their innocence. Seeing everyone’s innocence instead of guilt strengthens our peace of mind and brings us joy. We feel so happy as we recognize the Christ in us, and see it in every brother as we go through our day.

Let Love Guide Us Today

God’s strength and Love are eternally ours, given us in our creation. God’s gifts are given eternally; we can never be without them. When we engage in the dream of separation, we are unaware of God’s gifts, but they remain ours. We can turn to them in any moment. We only need to turn to His Voice with willingness to receive the eternal message that we remain as God created us.

In times of conflict, stress, fear or guilt, it can be helpful to remind ourselves that we are not a body, we are free. We are still as God created us — innocent and at one with all Love, complete and whole. Love’s strength is ours. We can count on it to support us and supply all that we really need. The Love that we are helps us see past the forms of the world to the changeless Love that lies beyond them.

Our practice today is to let Love guide our actions, our thoughts and our seeing through the day. With Love as our Guide, we will know we are safe and that our brothers are safe along with us in the comfort of Love’s Arms. With this practice, it will be a happy and peace filled day.

Receiving Holy Spirit’s Lessons

Let [the Holy Spirit] be Judge as well of everything that seems to happen to you in this world. His lessons will enable you to bridge the gap between illusions and the truth.

He will select the elements in them which represent the truth, and disregard those aspects which reflect but idle dreams. And He will reinterpret all you see, and all occurrences, each circumstance, and every happening that seems to touch on you in any way from His one frame of reference, wholly unified and sure. And you will see the love beyond the hate, the constancy in change, the pure in sin, and only Heaven’s blessing on the world. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.151.9:4-5;11:1-3. The Holy Spirit will purify our thoughts if we let Him. Our part is to let our mind be still and be receptive to Holy Spirit’s mind purification. The Holy Spirit will show us the difference between the real and the unreal. The Holy Spirit lifts the veil of our belief in separation and shows us Love’s Presence is everywhere.

He shows us the holiness beyond all forms of separation and the oneness and purity of Love beyond all conflict. The Holy Spirit brings us peace of mind and a sense of well being that comes with recognition of our true Nature. We gratefully receive Holy Spirit’s lessons today.

Accepting Love as Our Life

The Thought of God created you. It left you not, nor have you ever been apart from it an instant. It belongs to you. By it you live. It is your Source of life, holding you one with it, and everything is one with you because it left you not. The Thought of God protects you, cares for you, makes soft your resting place and smooth your way, lighting your mind with happiness and love. Eternity and everlasting life shine in your mind, because the Thought of God has left you not, and still abides with you. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.165.2. See also ACIM Lesson 165 Insights.)

The Thought of God is Love extending Itself. Love surrounds us, energizes us, keeps us safe in Its perfect harmlessness and gives us eternal Life. Being without form, the Thought of Love cannot be seen in the forms of the world. It is seen through our inner spiritual vision that looks beyond form.

To know the joy and peace of Love, we need to stop denying Its presence. This is what forgiveness does. Forgiveness releases the barriers we have put up by choosing to believe in the reality of a false world, where Love’s oneness is not welcome. Because this false world of separation denies Love, we are all on a constant quest for Love.  But we can not find it in the world of separation and differences. Yet Love remains ever present, ready to bless us with Its Light the moment we are willing to let It in.

The practice of focusing our attention on the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of everything we perceive is how we forgive the world and release ourselves to receive the Love that has already been given without limit. This is how we forgive. With this practice, joy and peace are remembered and accepted. And we give thanks.

The Answer to Every Perceived Problem

A Course in Miracles defines Atonement as perfect Love. It also calls It the undoing. God created the Self we share as perfect Love. Thus when we accept Atonement, we accept our Self. If we weren’t rejecting Love, there would be no need for Atonement, no need for undoing false perceptions. But to experience Atonement, to experience perfect Love, we need to undo our denial of It.

That is why forgiveness is central to the Course. Forgiveness is the undoing of the denial of Love, our Self. When I judge someone, that person represents my denial of Love. It is this I must take to the Holy Spirit and let Him help me see the Love behind the behavior and to answer the call for Love with Love.

When I disapprove of someone’s behavior, I may tell myself, “I would never do that.” This is one of the tricks of the ego. It encourages us to look at form (behavior) and disregard content.

As I learn to take these judgments to the Holy Spirit, I learn to see the common content. Always in some way the behavior represents a belief in separation and the lack and loss that seem to come with it. If I see someone as needy or demanding or manipulative or any of myriad labels I might apply, they all cover a basic sense of loss, which the behavior is trying to rectify. The behavior is trying to solve the problem on the level of form, where it cannot be solved. When I judge the behavior, I am thinking that changing the behavior will solve the problem, which is also trying to solve the problem at the level of form, where it cannot be solved.

As I learn to recognize the problem is a sense of lack that comes from believing in separation from Love, then I can take that problem to the Holy Spirit and ask for help to recognize that I am the Love that I seem to have lost. And in that seemingly “other” person, I can answer the behavior, the call for Love, with Love. Thus I teach myself that I am Love and that Love is always the answer.

The problem is the belief in separation from Love. The answer is the acceptance of my Self, perfect Love. That is Atonement. That is accepting my Self as the Son God loves. That is seeing that I am joined with all my brothers in that one Self that is the Son God loves.

Today, Holy Spirit, help me not to be fooled by behavior. Help me to see my unity with all in the one Self that is God’s beloved Son. Thus will I let my sinlessness protect me from all harm. (A Course in Miracles, Excerpt from ACIM Lesson 337 Insights. © 2003)
