Seeing Our Brother’s Changeless Reality

The Christ in him is perfect.…

This will you look upon when you decide there is not one appearance you would hold in place of what your brother really is. Let no temptation to prefer a dream allow uncertainty to enter here. Be not made guilty and afraid when you are tempted by a dream of what he is. But do not give it power to replace the changeless in him in your sight of him. There is no false appearance but will fade, if you request a miracle instead. There is no pain from which he is not free, if you would have him be but what he is. Why should you fear to see the Christ in him? You but behold yourself in what you see. As he is healed are you made free of guilt, for his appearance is your own to you. (A Course in Miracles, T-30.VIII.5:5;6:1-9)

Today is dedicated to accepting Holy Spirit’s peace and quietness… As we are willing to follow Holy Spirit’s lead, we are led past images of constant change to the changeless reality that is the truth of every brother… We are led to the truth of simple, uncomplicated Love… We see our brothers as one with us in the Self that Love created… Here is where we find our true eternal happiness. And we give thanks.

Making Way for a Happy Day

A holy relationship starts from a different premise. Each one has looked within and seen no lack. Accepting his completion, he would extend it by joining with another, whole as himself. He sees no difference between these selves, for differences are only of the body. Therefore, he looks on nothing he would take. He denies not his own reality because it is the truth. Just under Heaven does he stand, but close enough not to return to earth. For this relationship has Heaven’s Holiness. How far from home can a relationship so like to Heaven be?

Think what a holy relationship can teach! Here is belief in differences undone. Here is the faith in differences shifted to sameness. And here is sight of differences transformed to vision. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.Intro.3:1-4:4)

When we accept that we are the Self that God created, we know we are complete. God gave all of Himself to His Son, the Self we are, so we share God’s completeness. The choice to believe that we are separate individuals is the denial of our completeness. This brings an inevitable sense of lack and a need to search for completion.

Being the denial of completion, the ego will always direct us to look for completion where it cannot be found. It offers specialness as a substitute for God’s completion. Yet specialness can never bring lasting satisfaction of our need to be complete.

When we let the Holy Spirit guide our search for completion, He will help us let go of the mistaken belief in separation that hides the truth that we are eternally complete. Letting go of mistaken beliefs is forgiveness. As we practice bringing all disturbances, which stem from an underlying belief in being separate, to the Holy Spirit to receive His vision, He will help us shift from perception of differences to the vision of the sameness we share with all our brothers and with God.

Today our practice is to be mindful of any disturbance to our peace and bring it to the Holy Spirit with willingness to receive His loving correction. Thus will we make way for a happy day.

Keeping the Door Open for the Holy Spirit

To ask the Holy Spirit to decide for you is simply to accept your true inheritance. Does this mean that you cannot say anything without consulting Him? No, indeed! That would hardly be practical, and it is the practical with which this course is most concerned. If you have made it a habit to ask for help when and where you can, you can be confident that wisdom will be given you when you need it. Prepare for this each morning, remember God when you can throughout the day, ask the Holy Spirit’s help when it is feasible to do so, and thank Him for His guidance at night. And your confidence will be well founded indeed.

Never forget that the Holy Spirit does not depend on your words. He understands the requests of your heart, and answers them. (A Course in Miracles, M-29.5:5-10;6:1-2)

Our purpose for today is to further reinforce the habit of opening our minds to receive Holy Spirit’s peace and Love. As we reinforce this habit through the day, we can be confident the Holy Spirit will be there shining a Light on all we see. We will see through the Holy Spirit’s eyes and see the reflection of God’s Love everywhere. We will remember that only Love is there and rejoice with the Holy Spirit that the time of awakening to the real world is here and now.

Remembering We Are Eternal Spirit

Miracles are seen in light.
The body’s eyes do not perceive the light.
But I am not a body. What am I?

The question with which this statement ends is needed for our exercises today. What you think you are is a belief to be undone. But what you really are must be revealed to you. The belief you are a body calls for correction, being a mistake. The truth of what you are calls on the strength in you to bring to your awareness what the mistake conceals. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.91.6:2-10)

Today our practice focuses on remembering that we are eternal Spirit. We are not a body. As Spirit, we remember the strength of God in us. We remember the Light of God in every brother is their true Identity. We let this strength carry us through our day. We open our minds to receiving the peace of our eternal Spirit and extend it to the world.

Seeing Only Holiness

Your purpose is to see the world through your own holiness. Thus are you and the world blessed together. No one loses; nothing is taken away from anyone; everyone gains through your holy vision. It signifies the end of sacrifice because it offers everyone his full due. And he is entitled to everything because it is his birthright as a Son of God. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.37.1:2-6)

As we open our minds to see as the Holy Spirit sees, we see only holiness. The Light of the Holy Spirit shines away ego’s thoughts of limitation, littleness and guilt. We see the all encompassing Light of Love that is really there. We see that God is. Love is. And there is nothing else.

Today our one prayer is to see as the Holy Spirit sees everything as we go through our day. We give everyone their full due. We see that nothing has happened to change God’s one Son. We see that everyone is blessed along with us. And we give thanks.

Letting Go of Belief in Differences Brings Happiness

The key to forgiveness is the recognition that we are one with all our brothers in the one Self that Love created in Love and as Love. There is no need to defend against Love. There is no need to defend against what is the same.

When our peace is disturbed, it is an indication that in some way we are perceiving ourselves as different. This could only seem to be because we believe we are separate. It is this belief that must be undone. We were given the Holy Spirit in our minds to help us let go of the mistaken belief that we could in any way be different from the Love of God.

Today our practice is to bring every seeming disturbance to the Holy Spirit in our minds with willingness to be taught the truth beyond the mistaken belief that caused the disturbance. This is how we forgive the world for all we thought it was. This is how we accept the perfect happiness that is God’s Will for us.

Returning to the Awareness of God’s Peace

When we see ourselves as separate, we are unaware of the strength of God in us. Feeling weak, we believe we need to protect ourselves. So we become alert for danger and quickly respond with defense against perceived threats to our safety or against potential loss. This is not a peaceful way of being.

The strength of God is always in us, whether or not we are aware of it. The Holy Spirit is in our minds to help us awaken to the strength of God in us. We access the Holy Spirit’s help by allowing peace into our minds. We can use recognition of tension and lack of peace as a reminder to pause, withdraw our attention from seeming problems in the world and focus instead on welcoming the peace that is in us.

Time given to returning to the awareness of God’s peace is a very fruitful investment. It opens the door to miracles. It brings us into the state of mind in which we can receive Holy Spirit’s inspiration and perception. With His help, what was perceived as a problem is transformed into a miracle. When given to the Holy Spirit, problems become the means to awaken to full remembrance that we are one Self, in the Heart of Love.

Today we practice focusing on the peace within and welcome Holy Spirit’s guidance through the day.
