This morning we read A Course in Miracles, chapter 23, section II, “The Laws of Chaos.” What stood out to me was this:
How can you know whether you chose the stairs to Heaven or the way to hell? Quite easily. How do you feel? Is peace in your awareness? Are you certain which way you go? And you are sure the goal of Heaven can be reached? If not, you walk alone. Ask, then, your Friend to join with you, and give you certainty of where you go.” (T-23.II.22:6-13)
Asking myself these questions is my practice for today. How do I feel? Is peace in my awareness? Am I certain which way I go? These questions will help to lead me back when I get diverted from the one goal of Heaven. Asking these questions reminds me to turn to my Friend That is right there in my mind all through the day. I have wandered far from Home. I have forgotten that I am eternally in Heaven and cannot leave. I have believed in the ideas based on separation which are not true. It is only my inner Friend Who can lead me back to the awareness of Where I am eternally. My opportunity today is to maintain a close connection with my Friend to give me certainty and peace that never ends.
I am so grateful for the thought reversal process that is available to me at all times. Because I forget so often and believe in what the body’s eyes are showing me, I need the help of my constant Companion. And I do have this help if I am willing to be still and listen. This is my practice today.

Trying to apply Course principles in our daily experience can seem confusing and daunting. The Course is leading us to a complete reversal of everything we believe in the world. The ego warns us that if we give this up, we will have nothing. Yet the Course is telling us that all this in the dream is nothing. Now what?
It doesn’t help to look at overdue bills and say it’s just an illusion. That would be wrong use of denial. Instead we need to recognize that the circumstance is offering us a lesson God would have us learn. The appearance of lack is a reflection of believing we have separated from our Source. The Holy Spirit in our mind can gently and lovingly lead us to see every circumstance in a new way that frees us from our belief in lack and limitation.
The key is to consistently practice stepping back and turning our concerns, our fears, guilt and judgments over to the Holy Spirit. On our own we cannot resolve any problem. But in quietness and peace, all problems are quietly resolved. In peace we have laid down our defenses and with willingness we are open to receiving Holy Spirit’s inspiration. With His help, what seemed to be a fearful circumstance is transformed into an opportunity to let go of judgment and accept the Love that is eternally ours.
This transformation may show up in the world in many ways. We may be inspired to make a phone call that brings in a new form of income. We may be inspired to offer to do more at work, which may lead to more income. We may be inspired to change our employment or sell something we no longer need. Or we may be inspired to extend Love from our hearts to the people we work with and to the people to whom the payment is owed.
As we let ourselves experience the extension of Love, new avenues open up that may seem to “come out of the blue.” The more we are willing to step back and let Holy Spirit guide our ways, the more we will see Love reflected back to us in our daily experience, the more we will feel safe and certain that all our needs are met. Though some circumstances may seem particularly disturbing, the rewards of stepping back and letting Spirit lead the way are worth the effort. It is worth taking the time to allow in deeper levels of peace to make way for inspiration. My job today is to let peace in and follow.
