Letting God’s Love Replace the Void We Feel

How can illusions satisfy God’s Son?

Father, the truth belongs to me. ²My home is set in Heaven by Your Will and mine. ³Can dreams content me? ⁴Can illusions bring me happiness? ⁵What but Your memory can satisfy Your Son? ⁶I will accept no less than You have given me. ⁷I am surrounded by Your Love, forever still, forever gentle and forever safe. ⁸God’s Son must be as You created him.

Today we pass illusions by. ²And if we hear temptation call to us to stay and linger in a dream, we turn aside and ask ourselves if we, the Sons of God, could be content with dreams, when Heaven can be chosen just as easily as hell, and love will happily replace all fear. (A Course in Miracles, W-272. See also ACIM Lesson 272 Insights.)

In the dream of separation, a feeling of dissatisfaction, a sense that something is missing, is endemic. The ego sends us on countless search missions guaranteed not to succeed. That “something” that seems to be missing is the Love of God the dream denies. All the dream can offer is forms of specialness as a substitute for Love.

These forms never satisfy, for they contain no reality. Only God’s Love is real. Only our acceptance of His Love will fill the void we feel. Yet this void is a lie. No matter what we have taught ourselves to the contrary, God’s Love is real and ours, now and forever. In His Love, we find the peace we believe we lost; we know our safety in the changelessness of His Love.
