Peace—the State Where Love Abides

Robert:
In our reading in A Course in Miracles this morning, these sentences stood out to me:

The memory of God comes to the quiet mind. …Peace, looking on itself, extends itself. …Peace is the state where Love abides, and seeks to share Itself. (T-23.I.1:1;12:3,5)

What this tells me is that if I want to remember God, I must be willing to be in peace. It means I must be willing to give up all conflict, all judgment. It is judgment that keeps conflict in place because it makes the appearance of conflict seem real.

Yesterday I had an experience where I perceived a loss that made me angry. I had a judgment about what I believed should be. And since it appeared that I did not have it, I wanted to make someone guilty for taking it from me. Anger is the attempt to make another guilty. This was definitely not a happy feeling.

I knew immediately that I had to let it go, though part of me still believed the anger was justified. I focused on relaxing and opening my mind to peace. I softened and gradually settled down. Whenever I thought about it and felt my peace disturbed, I reminded myself that I would rather have peace than a grievance, and asked the Holy Spirit to help me see it differently.

I had to continue this practice for a while for peace to become more consistent. Gradually I came to recognize that what I thought was so important didn’t really matter. And I began to see the possibility of blessing coming out of the situation. Today as I think of what triggered the anger, I am at peace. Thanks to the Holy Spirit’s help, I truly see that it does not matter.

Mary:
This reading reminds me that if I want to be happy, I will be vigilant for opening my mind to the awareness of God’s everlasting peace.

If I am not feeling peaceful, I have once again replaced peace with judgment. Once I notice this, my job is to once again to return to peace instead of reinforcing the ego’s make-believe world of separation. When I choose peace, my mind quiets and the feeling that all is well returns. I am thankful for this reminder to be vigilant for peace. This is my practice for today.
