Reclaiming Our Self in the Heart of God

“I rest in God.” This thought will bring to you the rest and quiet, peace and stillness, and the safety and the happiness you seek. “I rest in God.” This thought has power to wake the sleeping truth in you, whose vision sees beyond appearances to that same truth in everyone and everything there is. Here is the end of suffering for all the world, and everyone who ever came and yet will come to linger for a while. Here is the thought in which the Son of God is born again, to recognize himself.

“I rest in God.” Completely undismayed, this thought will carry you through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of God. There is no suffering it cannot heal. There is no problem that it cannot solve. And no appearance but will turn to truth before the eyes of you who rest in God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 109, W-pI.109.2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 109 Insights.)

In the world, our days seem to be filled with change, uncertainty and struggle. The daily and hourly practice of stepping back and letting ourselves rest in the peace of God within can change our experience completely. From the place of peace, we are open to see with the vision of Christ. This vision sees past appearances and shows us that beyond appearances there is a solution to every apparent problem.

There is safety beyond the chaos. There is strength beyond the sense of vulnerability. There is true perception beyond the perception of guilt and fear. Each time we pause to welcome and rest in the peace of God, we remember with greater certainty that we have all the help we need to reclaim the Self that remains changeless in the Heart of God. And we give thanks.
