Never approach the holy instant after you have tried to remove all fear and hatred from your mind. That is its function. Never attempt to overlook your guilt before you ask the Holy Spirit’s help. That is His function. Your part is only to offer Him a little willingness to let Him remove all fear and hatred, and to be forgiven. On your little faith, joined with His understanding, He will build your part in the Atonement and make sure that you fulfill it easily. And with Him, you will build a ladder planted in the solid rock of faith, and rising even to Heaven. Nor will you use it to ascend to Heaven alone. (A Course in Miracles, T-18.V.2. The most important habit we need to have is to bring every apprehension or disturbance of our peace to the Holy Spirit with willingness to let Him undo it. It is impossible that we can undo fear and guilt alone.
The ego, the belief in the lie that we are alone, is an insane idea. Being insane, it has no reason so it is incapable of using its “reasoning” to undo any problem, any perception of fear or guilt. That is why we must be vigilant to watch for any disturbance and equally determined to bring every disturbance to the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit’s reason is founded in truth. When we are willing to receive His reasoning, falsity is recognized for what it is and easily let go. The truth of our oneness in Love freely flows in to take the place of the false ideas that are let go. Our little willingness to let the Holy Spirit do His job is the engine that powers our journey Home to remember God’s Love and claim it as our own. Today we will practice our willingness.
