The light of truth is in us, where it was placed by God. It is the body that is outside us, and is not our concern. To be without a body is to be in our natural state. To recognize the light of truth in us is to recognize ourselves as we are. To see our Self as separate from the body is to end the attack on God’s plan for salvation, and to accept it instead. (A Course in Miracles, W-pI.72.9:1-5)
The key to our salvation, to our release from the dream of separation, is to recognize that we are not a body. The body is an ego construct carefully designed to make it seem like we are each isolated, alone and separate from our brothers, our Self and from God. The body is a defense against the Light of Truth, which would clearly show us that we remain as God created us if we allowed ourselves to see the Light.
One of the most emphasized ideas in the Course is that we are not a body. The workbook lessons have us repeat this idea many times a day for 20 days. It is an idea that is completely foreign to the world we seem to see. It is the key to release from illusion and to opening our minds to the Light of Truth that is God’s eternal gift to us, His one Son. As we learn to withdraw our identification with the body as what we are, we free ourselves from its limitations and open ourselves to the experience of the limitlessness of our true Self.
Grievances keep us focused on the “reality” of the body, holding us in a self-imposed prison. This is why forgiveness is the key that sets us free to return to the Home we never left in truth. Today is another happy day for the practice of forgiveness that we may welcome the Light of Truth.
