Embracing Enlightenment or the Now Moment

by Rev. Quiara Escobar, O.M.C.

Rev. Quiara EscobarThis journey to attain Enlightenment has led me to a new way of seeing. Questioning my thoughts has led me to trust a part of myself that I have not paid too much attention to. The Holy Spirit in my mind is the memory of God that I carry around — a Companion I am learning is far beyond my human understanding. God is defined by my current level of acceptance of these concepts I practice — to go beyond concept to acceptance and practical universal application, and to see enlightenment as a present moment focus and acceptance of Reality without my interpretation.

1) Try not to take yourself too seriously. You are not the body or identity you seem to experience, nor is anyone else. Each person, thought, emotion and experience is perceived from a reference of the past or fear of a potential future. If you believe you are your job, relationship, a role, nationality or emotional attachments, you limit the Love within you. Holy Spirit, help me to see myself through Your perception.

2) A neutral perspective means assigning no meaning to events, circumstances, identities, experiences, objects, feelings, thoughts or interpretations. You are not the thoughts, emotions or events you believe you experience. How can you assign value if your interpretation rests on a distorted belief system?

3) There is no good or bad since I don’t know what anything is for or my own best interests. How can I know the value, of what I perceive and interpret from an egoic perspective, assigning value based on emotional attachments and a limited self reference? Do I really believe God has preferences? Can I see myself as God sees me — as perfect Love?

4) Trust that Love beyond my human understanding and definition supports my awakening. An inventory of interpretation is observed and released to Love. Knowing that as I continue to practice, my trust will increase as I experience claiming Holy Spirit or Love’s support. Can I trust God to know my best interests? Can I accept that I know nothing?

5) I am that which I seek. Love myself no matter what I think, feel, and experience. Be curious about preferences, thoughts, emotions and experiences. Look with love and be neutral about what comes up. Just realize where my focus is directed and know I can see differently at any moment. Embrace that miracles are alternative perspectives. Accept that within me is all the Love that I ever desired — to claim acceptance of the Kingdom now each moment I am present. What is my intention in this situation or relationship? How am I choosing to see myself?

6) Each discomfort believed to be caused by thought, emotion or experience is a necessary opportunity to apply a state of mind of Love or God’s Will. No learning, teaching, action, lack of action, thought, emotion, experience or external circumstance can affect your value. God has established your value. Can I see myself as Love? Can I love myself unconditionally? Can I forgive what I at times I chose to perceive in myself and others?

7) Ask for help, constantly. The stillness of focus is how I define God’s Will — a state of mind of Love extended in this now moment. My only prayer has become I surrender this way to see this _______. I am open to seeing things differently, to remove all obstacles to Love so that many miracles or alternative perspectives can be experienced. Am I willing to suspend my investment in beliefs that attract fear? Can I surrender this thought, emotion and experience without adding my interpretation?

8) Learn to trust when guided. Accepting that God’s Will is simply a state of mind that can allow the Holy Spirit/Love to guide us. Closing my eyes, I ask Holy Spirit for support and calm my mind by breathing, being still and with myself. I know there are two options I encounter in each moment — love or fear. Do I want to understand or have peace? Do I want to be right or happy? Be still. Learn to be with yourself and ask who desires to take action? Will this conclude in joining or increasing separation?

9) Make your practice priority. Whatever you decide to use to support you, use time wisely by applying this state of mind to each upset. See everything as an opportunity to awaken. Questioning thoughts has helped me to soften my perspective on judgments. Judgment becomes a focus on anything other than Love. If I question the stories or emotional attachments, I am accepting Reality/God’s Will and allowing a miracle to occur. Through present moment practice, I increase allowing God’s Will or a state of mind to expand in my mind.  What is more important than awakening in my life? What is not aligned with my practice? What am I afraid of losing?

In closing, fake it ‘til you make it. I am no expert and only know what is most loving when applied to my life. I once read in The Prophet, “You will be hurt by your own understanding of Love.” By removing obstacles to Love, the human form falls away and a focus on beingness is claimed. My purpose is to be a walking example of an alternative approach to God. Thank you for being my holy companion in this awakening.
