“Perhaps the greatest enigma of time is that nobody has enough of it, yet we almost always succeed in wasting it.” -Pete Mockaitis, The Student Leader’s Field Guide.
When I read this quote I recognized its truth for many of us. I remembered a conversation between two people talking about how busy they were. They were actually one-upping the other with how many hours they worked and how few hours they rested!
Many conveniences add to our lives. I once stood over a fax machine thinking to myself, “Hurry up!” I quickly laughed out loud at the thought, realizing in the not too distant past I would have mailed such a document and it would have taken days to reach its destination. We enjoy many such items to do things quicker in an effort to “save time.” More time for what, though?
Perhaps you know someone that is always in a rush. They are busy, busy, busy. You ask, “How are you?” The response is, “Busy!” Driven to do more, better and keep up with “The Jones,” they eventually reach exhaustion. Too little time for themselves and others can bring imbalance into their lives. I invite you to notice where you spend your time. What are you doing with your “time saved”?
A good measure of time spent wisely is the experience of inner peace. I found that a balance of prayer and meditation support the choice of inner peace. I think of prayer as the time I spend talking to God; meditation as the time I spend listening to God. Once I begin my day with these spiritual practices, I find that inner peace can co-exist as I go about the activity of the day.
The key to spiritual practice is to do it. A Course In Miracles is my path to increasing inner peace. It takes time. It takes practice. The more you take the time, the easier it gets. The experience of inner peace, however fleeting, is well worth the investment of some of your “saved time.” Namasté.
