Accepting the Peace of God

Regina Dawn Akers

image“I want the peace of God. To say these words is nothing. To mean these words is everything.”

“The peace of God is realized and accepted based upon the power of your own decision. It is up to you. You may choose the peace of God, and you may choose turmoil. You make your choice based upon the desire that seems dearest to you.”

I realize that I am just repeating sentences from A Course in Miracles and NTI, but these sentences are worth repeating, because fully accepting these sentences changes everything.

Yesterday, Laurent was my hero. He was my hero because I observed him as he very clearly chose the peace of God over other desires that seemed to be available to him in the moment. There was something he needed my help on. He had made a commitment to someone else, and in order to keep the commitment he needed my help. I felt I had too many commitments to others already and I did not feel that I could commit to helping him in the timeframe needed. There were already others who had been waiting patiently for me to get to them; some have been waiting weeks.

Laurent was in a situation that I can empathise with, because I am one who likes to keep commitments. He could very easily have hated me for not committing to helping him, and maybe those thoughts crossed his mind. However if they did, he did not choose to listen to them. I watched him as he put his personal desire to keep the commitment aside, accepted the situation as it was, released all bad feelings about it, and moved forward from there. He wrote to the people he had a commitment with and explained that he could not keep it. He offered alternatives that might be helpful to them. Then he got up from his seat and helped me with part of what I needed to get done. And he did all of this very, very happily.

Laurent was my hero last night because he was a symbol of the choice I want to make in every moment. Laurent chose not to listen to ego; he chose instead to choose the peace of God.

Thank you, love, for setting such a wonderful example.
