Announcing a New Pathways Support Group — Spiritual Support in Working with Holy Spirit

by Rev. Linda Wisniewski, O.M.C.

Rev. Linda WisniewskiIn the last Miracles News, Reverend Maria Kingsley and I announced that POL will soon be starting a support group to support those with chronic and critical illness. In fact, there are already seven ministers who are part of this group and we meet once a month to strengthen our own understanding of Wellness through Mind Healing based on A Course in Miracles. We also support each other in our willingness to be of service under Holy Spirit’s guidance. If you are a Pathways of Light minister and feel called as you read this, please contact me at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

In addition to this support group, Pathways of Light is in the process of starting another support group addressing working with Holy Spirit. Some of you have already volunteered to be of service by being part of this group. And, we are truly grateful.

So what is this support group about?

Many Course students have questions and confusion about how to work with Holy Spirit in their daily life as laid out in ACIM. Many students have questions about how to make decisions with the Holy Spirit instead of on their own.

Frequently asked questions that come up for students, POL ministers included, are:

1. How do we know that we are receiving the voice of Spirit or ego?

2. When I go to Holy Spirit, I don’t hear anything. Am I doing something wrong?

3. My thoughts keep jumping from one thing to another; I can’t stand being still. Do you have any suggestions?

4. Why can’t we go straight to God? Why do we need to go through Holy Spirit?

5. Can I access the Holy Spirit if I don’t feel comfortable with using that word?

6. Are my personal issues (big or small) worthy of Holy Spirit’s attention?

7. How can I get over being ashamed and guilty of my negative thoughts?

8. Is it possible that the Holy Spirit answers the same question one way for one person and a different way for another person?

9. It seems exhausting to always stop and see what’s going on in my mind and stop to go to Spirit.

10. If I have to make a decision on the spot and can’t hear the Holy Spirit’s Voice in the moment, what do I do?

11. Sometimes, I feel so frustrated, I just want to quit. What do I do?
In the preface to ACIM p. viii, it states: “It’s (ACIM) only purpose is to provide a way in which some people will be able to find their own internal teacher.”

Further, in the Clarification of Terms on p. 89, in ACIM it states:

“The Holy Spirit is the great correction principle, the bringer of true perception, the inherent Power of the vision of Christ.” “He speaks God’s Word for you.”

The ministers who are part of this support group will help guide those seeking support in the process of going within and accessing their Inner Teacher, the Source of Wisdom, the Bridge to God. Those who have already volunteered their service were part of a study group studying POL Course 912: Accepting Holy Spirit’s Help. We came together weekly for several months and addressed these questions and strengthened our own trust in going to Holy Spirit for guidance. As ACIM says: Seek Ye First the Kingdom.

One of the most powerful lessons I and others learned from being ordained as POL ministers is that when we strengthen our trust in accessing our Inner Wisdom through going first to Spirit, we grow in love, peace and joy. By going first to Holy Spirit, we do find the perfect answers. Spirit works with us in the illusion, wherever we are. By accessing our Inner Teacher, the blocks to peace, love and joy are gently and gradually removed. We remember who we are; we remember our true Identity as Love; we remember our innocence and perfection. We remember God; we remember our oneness with God.

The support group will:

1) Answer questions that students of ACIM have about working with Holy Spirit.

2) Help strengthen one’s spiritual discernment to recognize the Voice of Holy Spirit.

3) Help sort out spiritual confusion by referring to sections in ACIM which might address a particular issue.

4) Help clarify confusing parts of ACIM, not by telling someone what it means but by helping the person explore what it means to them; thereby, helping them find their own answers with Holy Spirit’s guidance instead of relying on the ego’s guidance, which only serves to strengthen our separation from God, from our true Identity.

5) Address how to make decisions with the Holy Spirit.

6) Address how to handle times when frustration and resistance arises and there is a powerful temptation to just want to quit.

I know from my own experience, how much I have grown in strength and trust of working with Holy Spirit. It didn’t feel comfortable at first, in fact, it felt like a lot of work. But I received encouragement from POL, which emphasizes the importance of going within and allowing ourselves to surrender to the guidance of our Higher Power, the Holy Spirit, the Bridge to God, the bridge to true peace, love and joy.
