Cleaning Up

Rev. Georgeann Medved

imageSpring and early summer are a beautiful time of renewal. A time when nature itself discards its drab for riots of color and produces a dazzling display of freshness and beauty. Seeing this transformation in nature encourages me to clean up, fix up, paint up my own surroundings.

Rummaging through the gross accumulation of my past I begin to discard all those things that seem to clutter my living space. This seems to be an attempt to bring some order to my surroundings and get rid of what’s unnecessary and cumbersome.

This tradition seems to parallel my personal life because in my day to day living I collect a lot of attitudes, viewpoints, ideas, thoughts and habits which are unworthy and need to be discarded.

A Course in Miracles
helps me discard these character traits because it teaches me that the greatest growth of spirit is made not by addition but by subtraction.

It tells me that it is wise to throw out anything that can only weigh me down and stop me from achieving the spiritual health and wholeness I deserve.

To throw out things that weigh me down and stop me is to open my life to all that is true, noble, just, pure, lovable, gracious, excellent and admirable. To fill my heart with these wonderful things is to live in the image of God with peace and grace.

Rev. Georgeann Medved is a Pathways of Light minister living in Lapeer Michigan.
