Invoking My Inner Flower Child

by Rev. Marta Schwartz

imageI choose to be truly helpful. That has been my mantra for some time now. Slowly but surely, it dawned on me that being truly peaceful is how I achieve this goal. This means invoking my inner flower child in a very real way.

Of all the ministerial courses that I have taken, I have been most influenced by the “Peace First” study page first introduced in the Pathways of Light course 802: Oneness Awareness. Over the past several months I have tried with some success to incorporate the attitude that no matter what, “Peace comes first.”

I even found a bumper sticker, the only bumper sticker I have on my Jeep, that simply states PEACE and joined a wonderful church dedicated to Christ Consciousness named Peace Mennonite.

This seemed to me like a good start. We would all like a more peaceful planet; we are in control of our thoughts and how we respond to this world. We can make quite a big impact on how soon the people of this planet lay down the weapons of separation and embrace the Oneness that we truly are. But how do we do this as an active practice?

I was very happy to be led by Holy Spirit to a book written by Dr. Deepak Chopra titled Peace Is The Way. In the back of his book and on his website www.chopra.com, he outlines a seven-day program for peacemakers on how to be, think, feel, speak, act, create and share for Peace.

I have incorporated this program in my morning routine. First I read and meditate on the ACIM’s lesson, which by itself promotes a truly peaceful state. Next I spend five minutes to meditate on the aspect of Peace for that specific day. For example: Today is Thursday, the focus is on Acting for Peace. I am to seek out ways I can help people in need. It may even be bringing a smile to someone’s face. This method breaks it down to a daily focus and allows the practice of Peace to be active, which is very helpful to me. I like specifics and simplicity. I am on my second week of the program and can honestly say I feel a difference in myself and this is truly the beginning. I invite you to check this program out for yourself and see if it invokes your own version of the inner flower child.

Peace is a deep well, filled with infinite calmness,
Nurturing and nourishing all who care to drink the cool cup of water
Offered by Christ
In the guise of a neighbor, friend or perceived foe.
Peace takes happiness to a new level.
Peace is where I want to be.
Peace to you.
