Learning God’s Lessons, Even from the Baby

Rev. Sharyn Zenz, O.M.C.

Rev. Sharyn ZenzMy family came from New Jersey for their week’s vacation and I got to baby sit for the 10-month old while they went on their outings. What a gift! I love babies to start with and he was the most loving, snuggly baby who loved to be rocked and held. Just up grandma’s alley!

So, for the next few days, I did nothing but love and laugh with that baby. My son and daughter-in-law are in the process of trying to adopt the baby, and the mother has decided that she wants him back! But the state is not in agreement with the mother until she makes some changes.

I found myself looking at him and rocking and asking God to please make it possible that he become my grandchild! Then I went to Spirit and was told that if I want to think I know what is best and pray for that to happen, that I was doubting and not trusting that He knew what was best for all involved. Spirit also reminded me that if I was going to concentrate on the future, I was going to miss out on the present moments with the baby now. Spirit said, “Just love him.”

The light bulb in me went off and boy did I have fun with him. I told him how much he was loved, and that he was safe and that God lives within him and that Jesus walks beside him every minute of every day. The baby looked at me and gave me the biggest smile as if to say, “Thank you for reminding me.”

As I forgot about the future and just had fun with him each moment, I felt sooooo blessed to be given this time with this little angel. My opportunity in the present moment was to love him, hold him and just “be” with him.

After they went home and I was talking with one of my students, we did a process from Miracles Practitioner course 916: Teacher of God. In this course we were led to read the following Surrender Prayer:

I open my mind to You Holy Spirit.

I will not decide what anything means on my own. I do not know.

The past is gone. The future is not here.

Only You, Holy Spirit, only you.
I am open to be led.

I open to your peace, right now.

I step back and follow. I would not lead.

All that I see through the
body’s eyes is false.
I am like a child that knows nothing.
I follow Your lead right now.

Your grace is given me.
Your grace I receive. Amen

In the course we were guided to read this prayer several times and then join with the Holy Spirit to receive four messages that would help us change our perception.

This is what I received:

Message #1: Be like the baby, Sharyn. Learn from him. He doesn’t even know what the future is. He only knows what is in the present moment. He never worries or frets about any what if’s or how come’s.

Message #2: Be like the baby, Sharyn.  Rest in God’s arms like the baby does. You think you need to be running around finding a job or doing this or that all the time. When you are tired, you need to relax and rest. When the baby was tired, he rubbed his eyes and you got his blanket and rocked him. He snuggled right into your arms and fell asleep. You need to lay down and picture yourself in God’s arms and let Him rock you and cuddle you. The baby felt very safe, and so will you.

Message #3: Be like the baby, Sharyn. Did you notice when the baby was crawling around and he came to something you didn’t want him to have or it wasn’t safe for him, you just turned him in a different direction or took him to a toy or something to take whatever it was off of his mind. And he never dwelled on what he couldn’t have or didn’t have. He was happy with whatever was put in front of him! When you are dwelling on something, remember to turn to Jesus and allow Him to bring you to where it is He wants you to be.

Message #4: Be like the baby, Sharyn. He never thinks about time, or running late, or what are others going to think of him. He has no opinions of others and just lets them be. He doesn’t know how to judge or make any decisions on his own. He lets his caretaker take care of all of that. Let go and let God take care of everything in your life, Sharyn and know that all is well and you are loved. Trust like the baby trusts!

Wow! I really learned many things from that little guy that I wasn’t even aware of at the time. Until I sat down and did this process with Rev. Larry Glenz, I didn’t realize all the lessons a little child had to teach me. God uses every encounter and every moment as a lesson to teach us that only Love is real.

Now I don’t even think the thoughts of whether they will get to adopt baby Felix or not. I know that it is in God’s hands and only He knows what is best for all of us! I know now that no matter who comes to me, all I need to do is love them and I will be blessed in so many ways. Thank you God.
