Receiving Holy Spirit’s Psychotherapy

by Rev. Colleen Mc Nally

image Holy Spirit is gently reminding me to do this work. “Notice that as you continue to practice stepping back and observing your thoughts with Holy Spirit, you are receiving psychotherapy or mind healing.” (923: Miracles Practitioner, Part III, p. 19)

In early morning hours, Spirit was telling me and guiding me to find the right place to begin my work. For me, now, stepping back is requiring me to create space for myself, space where the conditions are right for me to quiet myself and do my inner work. I am receiving many lessons on a continual basis and it seems to begin on waking and getting up in the morning. My ego would immediately begin to get caught up in the unreal story of my living environment. When I came upon the following passage from the process of psychotherapy, it helped me to understand my experience in a new way.

“In order to help us awaken to the truth of our identity, the Holy Spirit needs our undivided attention. We may not be in the habit of giving the Holy Spirit our attention, but this is what He needs from us in order for us to receive the help that He directs. We give Him our attention by opening to the peace and calm that He will bring us if we let Him. We give Him our attention by asking for His healing perspective and making room for Him by quieting our mind of the ego’s constant chatter.” (923: Miracles Practitioner Part III p. 17)

I am aware that this is what Spirit is telling me and calling me to do. By creating a space for myself, I am able to give Holy Spirit my attention. The awareness comes to me that I may not be in the habit of giving the Holy Spirit my undivided attention. Therefore, my practice is requiring this. It seems that there is an action step that I am requiring right now. To give my undivided attention to the Holy Spirit, I need to actually not only step back and give Him my attention, I need to follow through in creating that space that is right for me. For right now, i need to find a quiet space where I will not be interrupted. I am finding that when I take this action step, I open to the peace and calm that He brings me. This process makes me so aware of that edge where I allow ego to take over very quickly.

“Psychotherapy is a process that changes the view of the self.” (P-1.2.Intro.1:1) In the 923 Miracles Practitioner course we are asked to think about this. As we open to our inner psychotherapist, the Holy Spirit, we are brought through a process that changes how we view ourselves. I am now thinking about this and realizing that I am in a process that is changing how I view myself.

Something very vital happens in this process. Spirit brings me peace. “We now know that what we learned and think we know is a barrier to the awareness of Love’s Presence.” (923: Miracles Practitioner, Part III, p. 17) Doing this helps me to understand the undoing. I am brought to realize that what I have learned is most certainly a barrier to Love. This undoing takes constant vigilance and practice as evidenced by this one tiny segment of my day, beginning by finding a way to give my attention to Spirit. I begin to get one small glimpse of my world of illusion. “Notice that these ego thoughts always lead away from peace…” (923: Miracles Practitioner, Part III, p. 17) It amazes me that I am so easily led away from peace. In this awareness I rejoice; I feel the joy of Holy Spirit’s psychotherapy. “The Holy Spirit is only interested in shining a light on our illusions so that we will see that they are untrue.” (923: Miracles Practitioner, Part III, p. 18)

Thank you Holy Spirit. You have touched my grateful heart.
