Don’t Question, Just Do It

My 21 year old son Bradley is a soldier in the U.S. Army and is currently serving in Baghdad, Iraq. His deployment to the Middle East began 13 1/2 months ago in Kuwait. He was there a few weeks before actually going into Baghdad, where he would spend the majority of the next 15 months.

Word that Bradley had moved into Baghdad was received the evening before I was scheduled to take a Reiki II class. Learning about sending distant healing in this class boosted my morale, and I was confident that I could do something positive and helpful for Bradley and his buddies while they were so far from home. Sending love, peace and healing to my son and his army friends would become a daily ritual during my evening meditation.

One evening during the week following the Reiki II class, as I pictured Bradley at peace and surrounded by love, light and healing, I was overwhelmed by a very powerful and thought-changing experience. Over the image of Bradley that I was holding in my mind appeared a very vivid, clear and life-sized image of Osama Bin Laden. He was sitting crossed legged and dressed in white, as he appears on those rare occasions when I see a picture of him on TV or in the newspaper. He was so close that I could see the color of his eyes as his gaze pierced mine. I heard a gentle voice say, “He needs healing too.”

I was definitely startled and disturbed by the image, and conflict began to brew inside me. After all, wasn’t Osama Bin Laden part of the reason why Bradley was in Iraq? As I started to question, the gentle voice became quite firm in its reply, telling me, “Don’t question, just do it.” Ever so obedient to the instruction given me, I took a deep, calming breath and proceeded to send love, peace and healing to Osama Bin Laden.

The inner conflict gradually dissipated as I began to understand at a deeper level the meaning of oneness. I understood that all are pure love and light, exactly as created by God. I understood that the actions of the body cannot undermine who we truly are. I understood that as one is healed and uplifted, all are healed and uplifted. Finally, I understood that the best way to help Bradley is to help all.

Every evening since, as I send love, peace and healing to Bradley, I also send love, peace and healing with the same sincerity and intensity to Osama Bin Laden and to each and every one of my brothers in Christ.

Nine weeks after this humbling and profound experience, I bought A Course in Miracles and started reading the Text and doing the daily lessons. I can say without hesitation or doubt that during my meditation that evening I received the gift of a miracle.
