A Day of Paying Attention

Our practice for today is to pay attention, to be mindful of what meaning we are giving in all our doing in the world. If the ego’s meaning is our guide, the doing will always be perceived as being to meet some form of “personal” goal — to protect or enhance a self-image, to obtain something that is believed would make us happy, to avoid something that might cause unhappiness or in some way to satisfy a perceived need.

The Holy Spirit will always guide our doing to be a reflection of Love’s extension in the world. With this guidance, the doing is always in peace. It is offered as a blessing, being truly helpful to the whole. There is an underlying sense of giving to bless rather than doing to “get.” Because the Holy Spirit knows that we already have been given everything we need, Its guidance is always with the purpose of demonstrating that fullness, that sense of being complete, in all our doing. 

As we pay attention to which guide we are following through the day, we can shift from the isolating goals of the ego to the unifying goal of the Holy Spirit. And we will learn how blessed we are as a Son of God.
