Willingness to Accept the Holy Spirit’s Help

The Holy Spirit is not delayed in His teaching by your mistakes. ²He can be held back only by your unwillingness to let them go. ³Let us therefore be determined …to be willing to forgive ourselves for our lapses in diligence…. ⁴This tolerance for weakness will enable us to overlook it, rather than give it power to delay our learning. ⁵If we give it power to do this, we are regarding it as strength, and are confusing strength with weakness.

When you fail to comply with the requirements of this course, you have merely made a mistake. ²This calls for correction, and for nothing else. ³To allow a mistake to continue is to make additional mistakes, based on the first and reinforcing it. ⁴It is this process that must be laid aside, for it is but another way in which you would defend illusions against the truth.

Let all these errors go by recognizing them for what they are. ²They are attempts to keep you unaware you are one Self, united with your Creator, at one with every aspect of creation, and limitless in power and in peace. ³This is the truth, and nothing else is true. ⁴Today we will affirm this truth again, and try to reach the place in you in which there is no doubt that only this is true. The ego is held in place by guilt. Applying the principles the Course provides will lead us to a complete reversal of our belief system to open our mind to accept our unity in God’s Love. This reversal takes practice. We can easily lapse into our old patterns of guilt. This can turn into a double whammy when we feel guilty for our lapse, reinforcing the guilt that we want to let go.

This is when we need to be tolerant of our mistakes. We are not alone in our practice of forgiveness. In fact, we cannot forgive without help. We need only be willing to open our mind to the Holy Spirit’s correction.

As we are willing to accept His help, we learn that what was cause for guilt never had an effect on the truth of what we are. We are united in Love with our Creator and all Creation. And only Love is real. Nothing else exists.
