Standing on Holy Ground

by Rev. Myron Jones, Ordained Ministerial Counselor

I love the section in Chapter 14 of the Course that discusses the Circle of Atonement. Each time I go back to it, I have a deeper understanding, and so my experience of it is more profound. This year, my focus has been on healing grievances. Here is a sentence in this section that has been especially helpful to my practice.

“Your only calling here is to devote yourself, with active willingness, to the denial of guilt in all its forms.(T-14.V.3:5)

And there we have it. I suppose that if I could have accepted this and practiced it from the first time I read it, my experience of the world would be entirely different now. I can’t complain that Jesus was being cryptic or that I didn’t understand. Apparently, I just didn’t want to do this. Now I do, and I will be vigilant for those times when I don’t. I will notice the guilt thoughts because, finally, I want to. Awakening is now more important to me than being right and maintaining this separate self. To that end, I have written this in my calendar, where I see it many times a day.

The Empty Chair: Why My “Knowing” Almost Killed Me

by Rev. Maureen Yarbrough, Ordained Ministerial Counselor

A Lesson on the Arrogance of Inferiority

In any classroom, there is a student who fights. Sometimes they fight with loud arguments and intellectual posturing. Other times, they fight with a wall of silent, “perfect” competence.

I was the latter. I was the student who “fought” the Teacher by pretending I had already graduated. I didn’t realize that in the logic of the ego, “knowing” is the ultimate defense against healing.

The Mask of the Invincible

I walked into every room with a calculation already running: I assumed everyone else was smarter than me. To survive that perceived inferiority, I built a fortress of “Super-Confident Manager” and “Efficient Worker.” I was a world-class People Pleaser who always had the right answer, the right spreadsheet, and the right smile.

Being Trained

by Rev. Larry Glenz, Ordained Ministerial Counselor

“You are not used to miracle-minded thinking, but you can be trained to think that way.” (T—2.VII.1:9)

I believe that through A Course in Miracles, I am being trained to be able to handle the tough times of this dream in which I find myself. I have been studying the Course for decades and have always felt a strong attraction to its teachings. But many times over the years I found myself questioning if I ever will be able to think with the Christ Mind.

Will I be able to see all my brothers — every body — as an innocent Son of God?

Will I understand that everything in the world of form is an illusion?

Will I ever fully recognize that my spiritual thoughts and my ego thoughts are creating and making the world I see?

Can I consistently learn to choose the Holy Spirit and let go of my fear?

At my best, I say, “Why Not?” I have a spiritual path that says, “I can.”

How to Walk in this World with Holy Spirit

by Laura Pastiva, Pathways of Light Student

(This article was inspired by POL Course 910: Living in the World While Waking Up.)

A Course in Miracles tells us we are living in a dream of our own making — and that illusion cannot impact or hurt the true Self, the eternal Self. That’s a difficult idea to embrace when we are faced with the daily challenges of life — getting stuck in traffic and arriving late to work, coming down with a cold and feeling miserable, arguing with a partner, or being hit with unexpected expenses and circumstances that make our experience feel chaotic and random.

In Workbook Lesson 135, my favorite lesson, we are told: “You operate from the belief you must protect yourself from what is happening because it must contain what threatens you.” (ACIM W-135.2:1)

Of course, I feel the need to prepare for the unexpected — sometimes even the worst — when I’m relying on my own strength and my own understanding of this world. Jesus says, “The world is based on this insane belief.” (W-135.2:3)

We seem to lurch from one threat to the next without logic or warning: a job loss, a serious illness in the family, a costly car repair. It feels like a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. How do we prepare for the next emergency?

And yet we are told: “…no one walks the world in armature but must have terror striking at his heart.” (W-135.2:5)

Embodying A Course in Miracles

by Rev. Dan Strodl, Pathways of Light Spiritual Counselor

A Course in Miracles is a profound spiritual teaching, designed to shift our perception from fear to love. But the journey doesn’t really begin until we embody its teachings.

Embodying the Course means moving beyond intellectual understanding and actively living its principles… especially forgiveness, love, non-judgement, and inner peace in our daily life. When we do that they become the foundation of how we think, perceive, relate to others, and respond in every moment. The Course taken deeply becomes experiential, realised through consistent inner work. While daily lessons and the text are vital, embodiment begins when we move from studying the course to practicing it in our daily lives.

When we embody A Course in Miracles in our life, we experience a shift in perception in everyday moments, and our mind shifts from fear to love.

Our Pathway Home Comes from Holy Spirit

by Revs. Robert and Mary Stoelting, Founders of Pathways of Light

Forgiveness guides us to overlook the world of separation to experience our oneness with our Creator and every brother. We willingly shed our judgments in favor of seeing the truth and blessing our brothers. As we welcome the Holy Spirit, we are safely led out of the dream of separation to find the eternal Love that has always been ours.

“Forgiveness is the Holy Spirit’s great learning aid in bringing this thought reversal about. …As we learn to recognize our perceptual errors, we also learn to look past them or “forgive.” At the same time we are forgiving ourselves, looking past our distorted self-concepts to the Self That God created in us and as us.”
(ACIM Preface, xi)

The ego fantasy is that we have succeeded in separating from our Creator. From this wish, a whole universe of fantasies comes forth. Being dependent on these dream fantasies of separation for its existence, the ego never questions its choice of being unique and special. Rather, it always seeks to make the false idea of separation from God more real. The ego’s plan for forgiveness is to first believe that something has happened and then tries to disregard it or put it out of awareness to hold the illusion of separation from God in place.
