I See Peace When I Accept Peace

Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.

Search your mind for fear thoughts, anxiety-provoking situations, “offending” personalities or events, or anything else about which you are harboring unloving thoughts. Note them all casually, repeating the idea:

I could see peace in this situation instead of what I now see in it.

We are training our mind to choose with the Holy Spirit, instead of with the ego. With Holy Spirit, we are reversing thoughts of conflict to thoughts of peace, joy and Love. We reversing thoughts of vulnerability and weakness, and claiming our Higher Power within. We are accepting enlightened thoughts instead of dark, depressing thoughts.

Today we practice accepting peace from our inner Teacher, the Holy Spirit. We allow ourselves to feel the calmness and safety that eternally surround us.

Resting in Quiet Remembering

The miracle comes quietly into the mind that stops an instant and is still. It reaches gently from that quiet time, and from the mind it healed in quiet then, to other minds to share its quietness. And they will join in doing nothing to prevent its radiant extension back into the Mind which caused all minds to be. Born out of sharing, there can be no pause in time to cause the miracle delay in hastening to all unquiet minds, and bringing them an instant’s stillness, when the memory of God returns to them. Their own remembering is quiet now, and what has come to take its place will not be wholly unremembered afterwards. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.I.11. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

A chaotic series of thoughts seems to be constantly flowing through our mind. Many seem to be completely disconnected from the others. Others seem to be connected to each other but lead nowhere. These are the thoughts fed to us by the ego thought system. They do not come from our true Self, which has only one Thought, that It shares with God.

Our true Self’s singular thought is the joyous extension of the Thought of Love, Which created us and extends through us. It does not help to try to do battle with the ego’s chaotic thoughts in an attempt to manage the chaos. That is simply asking the source of chaos to manage its own chaos.

The way out of the chaos is to simply let it pass by without participating in the chaos. In this world the ego thoughts will enter our minds. As we learn to give them no attention, they pass by with no effect because the ego’s thoughts have no substance and no energy. It is the attention we give to the ego thoughts that seem to give them effects in our life experience.

To quiet our minds, we can notice the ego thoughts and let them pass by. As we withdraw our attention to these thoughts, we make way for the Thought of our true Self to rise to our awareness. Like the sound of a railroad train passing by fades off into the distance, our minds return to quiet as we no longer feed the ego with our attention. Now the way is clear to remember the Thought of Love that created us. Now we have freed ourselves to extend the Thought of Love and let It shine on all our brothers. Now we remember our Father and we rest in His peace.

Seeing the Light of Love in Everyone

When a mind has only light, it knows only light. Its own radiance shines all around it, and extends out into the darkness of other minds, transforming them into majesty. The Majesty of God is there, for you to recognize and appreciate and know. Recognizing the Majesty of God as your brother is to accept your own inheritance. God gives only equally. If you recognize His gift in anyone, you have acknowledged what He has given you. (A Course in Miracles, T-7.XI.5:1-6. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

The ego is the denial of Light. We cannot know the Light we are while we believe we are the ego. Nor can we recognize the Light of Love in our brothers because the ego cannot see the presence of Love.

To see the Light of Love in anyone we must use a different way of seeing — we must use Christ’s vision, the vision of our true Self. This vision is not seen with the body’s eyes. It comes from within, from the part of our mind that remembers our eternal unity with the Source of Love.

Holy Spirit, help me release my attachment to the ego’s way of seeing. I am willing to let it go. My heart’s desire is to see the Light of Love You see, to recognize it in all my brothers and to learn that it is in me. I offer you all my thoughts with willingness to let You wash them clean of the dark images of denial. I welcome these cleaned thoughts, which show me only the presence of Love.

I desire to be Love’s messenger. I desire to offer only Love in response to calls for Love. I desire to join with the Love that is eternal, now and everywhere. I am grateful for Your help.

Our Guide to Perfect Happiness

A Course in Miracles,

Only the Holy Spirit knows what you need. For He will give you all things that do not block the way to light. And what else could you need? In time, He gives you all the things that you need have, and will renew them as long as you have need of them. He will take nothing from you as long as you have any need of it. And yet He knows that everything you need is temporary, and will but last until you step aside from all your needs and realize that all of them have been fulfilled. Therefore He has no investment in the things that He supplies, except to make certain that you will not use them on behalf of lingering in time. He knows that you are not at home there, and He wills no delay to wait upon your joyous homecoming. (T-13.VII.12. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. If we want to be happy, it makes sense that we follow the Guide given us by the Source of happiness.

Since the ego is the denial of the Source of happiness, it does not know what happiness is. The best the ego can do is offer illusions as substitutes for God’s gifts. Everything the ego offers can only be temporary. The images may seem to make us happy, yet they do not last. And so, with the ego as our guide, we are on a journey that leads to disappointment and dissatisfaction.

Thankfully we have another Guide in our minds ready to lead us to the ultimate satisfaction of perfect happiness. We need to step back from the ego’s advice, remembering that on our own we do not know what will really bring us true and lasting happiness.

As we practice turning to the Holy Spirit as our Advisor in all things, we learn that the things we thought would bring us happiness in the world only lead to further dissatisfaction. We learn to recognize what is truly valueless. We make way for God’s joy and peace to come forward in our minds. Under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, all things in the world are used to help us awaken to the eternal presence of joy that is our natural state.

Today we practice giving our attention to the Guide to perfect happiness.

We Rest in God Today

This thought has power to wake the sleeping truth in you, whose vision sees beyond appearances to that same truth in everyone and everything there is.

You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you.

You rest within the peace of God today, quiet and unafraid. Each brother comes to take his rest, and offer it to you. We rest together here, for thus our rest is made complete, and what we give today we have received already. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 109, W-pI.109.2:4;8:1-9:3. As we go through our day, we practice letting ourselves remember that we rest in God. We rest in peace eternally. As we dwell in this state of mind, no appearances, no one’s behavior or words, can disturb our peace. We are confident that we rest in God today.

Seeing Past Appearances to the Unity of Love

I thank You, Father, knowing You will come to close each little gap that lies between the broken pieces of Your holy Son. Your Holiness, complete and perfect, lies in every one of them. And they are joined because what is in one is in them all. How holy is the smallest grain of sand, when it is recognized as being part of the completed picture of God’s Son! The forms the broken pieces seem to take mean nothing. For the whole is in each one. And every aspect of the Son of God is just the same as every other part. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.IV.9. Only Love matters. What is not Love is a call for Love. Every image of separation, be it a great world leader, a terrorist or a grain of sand, is a call for Love. No form matters except that it be recognized as a call for Love and that behind the appearance of form is only Love.

As we learn to recognize that all form is meaningless, we open our minds to the recognition that Love is everywhere and we are part of that Love. In the recognition of being Love we experience perfect safety, freedom from guilt and the joy of freely extending Love without limit.

We move toward this experience as we let the Holy Spirit take all our thoughts and wash them clean of all guilt and misconceptions that hide the truth of the Love we are. Today we would practice letting our thoughts be purified by the Holy Spirit. With His help we can see past appearances to the Love that is ever present. We can recognize calls for Love and happily respond with Love. Thus will we learn to see past appearances to the unity of Love.

Accepting the Gift of Truth

The power of decision is our own. And we accept of Him that which we are, and humbly recognize the Son of God. To recognize God’s Son implies as well that all self-concepts have been laid aside, and recognized as false. Their arrogance has been perceived. And in humility the radiance of God’s Son, his gentleness, his perfect sinlessness, his Father’s Love, his right to Heaven and release from hell, are joyously accepted as our own. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 152, W-pI.152.10. See also ACIM Lesson 152 Insights.)

Today we accept our Father’s Gift to us. And as we truly accept It, we give It to everyone we see or even think of in this world. The Christ Mind knows only of Love’s Oneness. And as we accept this gift, we recognize Love’s Oneness is everywhere.

The sight of Christ is all there is to see. The song of Christ is all there is to hear. The hand of Christ is all there is to hold. There is no journey but to walk with him. (T-24.V.7:7-10. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

We dedicate this holy day to holiness. We allow ourselves to see through the eyes of holiness. Happiness overflows as we give and receive the truth and see only innocence everywhere. Our gratitude overflows in this day of receiving the truth and giving the truth.
