Let Love Light Our Way

It would indeed be strange if you were asked to go beyond all symbols of the world, forgetting them forever; yet were asked to take a teaching function. You have need to use the symbols of the world a while. But be you not deceived by them as well. They do not stand for anything at all, and in your practicing it is this thought that will release you from them. They become but means by which you can communicate in ways the world can understand, but which you recognize is not the unity where true communication can be found.

Thus what you need are intervals each day in which the learning of the world becomes a transitory phase; a prison house from which you go into the sunlight and forget the darkness. Here you understand the Word, the Name which God has given you; the one Identity which all things share; the one acknowledgment of what is true. And then step back to darkness, not because you think it real, but only to proclaim its unreality in terms which still have meaning in the world that darkness rules. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 184, W-pI.184.9-10. See also ACIM Lesson 184 Insights.)

Every day presents an opportunity to recognize the unreality of the world we see. To do this we need to practice stepping back from the darkness of the world into the Light of Love in our mind. This is the Light the Holy Spirit brings to our vision. In this Light we experience the Reality of the oneness of Love.

We are so accustomed to functioning in the world of symbols that we easily get lost in the chaos, forgetting that all the images are only symbols with no meaning of their own. We have only made up meanings for these images in an attempt to make them seem real. But as we practice bringing the Holy Spirit’s Light with us into the world, we become the Holy Spirit’s messengers.

By our practice we teach what we need to learn. The symbols become means to teach that only Love is real. Each time we welcome the Holy Spirit’s Light to give us a reality check, we become part of the Holy Spirit’s mission to bring healing to the world.

Today we would let Love Light our way.

The Gifts Forgiveness Gives

No one in whom true forgiveness rests can suffer. He holds not the proof of sin before his brother’s eyes. And thus he must have overlooked it and removed it from his own. Forgiveness cannot be for one and not the other. Who forgives is healed. And in his healing lies the proof that he has truly pardoned, and retains no trace of condemnation that he still would hold against himself or any living thing.

Forgiveness is not real unless it brings a healing to your brother and yourself. You must attest his sins have no effect on you to demonstrate they are not real. …In their undoing lies the proof that they were merely errors. Let yourself be healed that you may be forgiving, offering salvation to your brother and yourself. (A Course in Miracles, T-27.II.3:6-11;4:1-2,6-7. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

If anything disturbs our peace, there is a need for mind healing; there is a need for forgiveness. Judgment denies Love and is always upsetting, for it denies our Self. When we let the Holy Spirit help us forgive and accept His help fully, forgiveness is complete. The Holy Spirit’s vision will always show us the innocence beyond the appearances that seem to be cause for guilt. The Holy Spirit knows that appearances are not real. If we let Him, He will show us there unreality.

Anything we recognize as unreal we easily let go to disturb us no more. The appearance that once disturbed our peace is recognized as nothing and has no effect. We then become a demonstration of peace and innocence. And by this demonstration teach our brother of his innocence. Thus the gift of forgiveness is given to both the forgiver and the forgiven, for they are One.

Today we welcome Holy Spirit’s vision as our own.

Welcoming the Truth

Forgiveness represents your function here.

Forgiveness gently looks upon all things unknown in Heaven, sees them disappear, and leaves the world a clean and unmarked slate on which the Word of God can now replace the senseless symbols written there before. Forgiveness is the means by which the fear of death is overcome, because it holds no fierce attraction now and guilt is gone. Forgiveness lets the body be perceived as what it is; a simple teaching aid, to be laid by when learning is complete, but hardly changing him who learns at all.

Only forgiveness can relieve the mind of thinking that the body is its home. Only forgiveness can restore the peace that God intended for His holy Son. Only forgiveness can persuade the Son to look again upon his holiness. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 192, W-pI.192.2:3;4:1-3;5:5-7. See also ACIM Lesson 192 Insights.)

As we learn all that forgiveness does, it is no wonder that forgiveness is the key to happiness. Forgiveness clears away all that is untrue and brings us back to the recognition that God’s Will for us, as His one Son, is perfect happiness.

It seems difficult to let go of the world because we have convinced ourselves that forms in the world are valuable. Letting go of what we value seems to be a sacrifice. The ego is constantly offering forms that seem to be desirable, yet have no real substance. The center of the ego’s focus is the body, its chosen home. When we identify with the body, we are identifying with the ego. We are identifying with a false idea that could never be true.

We need to practice choosing the Holy Spirit as our “fact checker.” Within the ego thought system we have no real reference with which to sort the true from the false. We need to choose the Holy Spirit, given us by the Source of Truth, to help us distinguish the true from the false. As we learn to recognize the false for what it is, we easily let it go with no sense of loss.

Today we will practice asking the Holy Spirit for His vision to look through us on all that we perceive. With His help, we will recognize the truth and welcome it.

Claiming the Peace of God

Now will I seek and find the peace of God.

In peace I was created. And in peace do I remain. It is not given me to change my Self. How merciful is God my Father, that when He created me He gave me peace forever. Now I ask but to be what I am. And can this be denied me, when it is forever true?

Father, I seek the peace You gave as mine in my creation. What was given then must be here now, for my creation was apart from time, and still remains beyond all change. The peace in which Your Son was born into Your Mind is shining there unchanged. I am as You created me. I need but call on You to find the peace You gave. It is Your Will that gave it to Your Son. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 230, W-pII.230. See also ACIM Lesson 230 Insights.)

Love created us in peace. Peace is our birthright and remains ours eternally. What God gives never changes, for He is changeless. The peace of God within us is rock solid, to be counted on in every moment. It is our foundation and our strength.

In times of seeming turmoil or upset in our world experience, the peace of God is ever present to be called upon for our strength and certainty of our safety. In every moment of apprehension we can call upon the peace of God within to bring us back to the vision of our true Self. With this vision, we see the Light of Love shine through the appearances of fear and guilt.

Today we call upon the Light of Love to help us remember that we remain Love as Love created us, standing firm upon the foundation of God’s changeless peace. We claim it now.

Accepting the Certainty of God’s Love

Where is sacrifice, when memory of God has come to take the place of loss? What better way to close the little gap between illusions and reality than to allow the memory of God to flow across it, making it a bridge an instant will suffice to reach beyond? For God has closed [the little gap] with Himself. His memory has not gone by, and left a stranded Son forever on a shore where he can glimpse another shore which he can never reach. His Father wills that he be lifted up and gently carried over. He has built the bridge, and it is He Who will transport His Son across it. Have no fear that He will fail in what He wills. Nor that you be excluded from the Will that is for you. (A Course in Miracles, T-28.I.15:2-9. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

God has not forgotten His Son. The only reason it feels like God is far away or even nonexistent is because we have convinced ourselves that we are not His Son. We have convince ourselves that the impossible is true. The whole “life” experience we have in the world is based on the specious belief that we have successfully separated from God.

Since God is everything, separation leaves us with nothing. So we have to make up stories of existence in a world of form with birth and death, conflict and fear, guilt and punishment. We feel abandoned by God yet it is we who have abandoned Him. Our world is inconceivable to the oneness of Love and seems to exist only in a little gap of time carved out of eternity.

Our fantasy of loss has not changed God. His Love remains intact, eternally extended to His Son. We can reclaim His Love by letting go of the past we have conjured up that hides His ever-present Love. We need but be still an instant and welcome Him. His Love will bridge the little gap that we have believed in but was never true. In that instant we remember our Creator and know with perfect certainty that we are loved.

Learning to See the Love in Our Brother

I am entitled to miracles. I am entitled to miracles because I am under no laws but God’s. His laws release me from all grievances, and replace them with miracles. And I would accept the miracles in place of the grievances, which are but illusions that hide the miracles beyond. Now I would accept only what the laws of God entitle me to have, that I may use it on behalf of the function He has given me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 89, W-pI.89.1. See also ACIM Lesson 89 Insights.)

God’s laws are the laws of Love. Love sees only innocence and unity. Love does not condemn. Love knows only joy. These are the laws of God that apply in each present moment.

When we hold a grievance, judge anyone, believe anyone’s identity is a body, we are believing in separation and denying the laws of God. The ego treasures grievances because it hides the miracle of oneness from our awareness. Grievances are always based on what we think in the past. Grievances are an attempt to cover up the present moment with images from the past, thus preventing us from experiencing the miracle of Love. The last thing the ego wants us to accept is God’s Love, for it would be the end of the ego.

Each time we experience upset, guilt, sadness, anger or hate, we are rejecting the laws of God in favor of the ego’s rule. But we always have a choice. We can choose another Guide who will show us the miracle of Love that is present now. As we follow the Holy Spirit’s lead, we learn to see past the ego’s false images to the eternal Love to which we are entitled. We see the Love in our brother and remember the Love we are each time we choose the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of the ego’s hallucinations.

Today we choose to accept God’s laws of Love.
