Welcoming the Thoughts We Share with God.

Although you are one Self, you experience yourself as two; as both good and evil, loving and hating, mind and body.

Spirit makes use of mind as means to find its Self expression. And the mind which serves the spirit is at peace and filled with joy. [Mind’s] power comes from spirit, and it is fulfilling happily its function here. Yet mind can also see itself divorced from spirit, and perceive itself within a body it confuses with itself. Without its function then it has no peace, and happiness is alien to its thoughts.

Wait patiently, and let Him speak to you about your Self, and what your mind can do, restored to [your Self] and free to serve Its Will.

If you succeed, the thoughts that come to you will tell you you are saved, and that your mind has found the function that it sought to lose. Your Self will welcome [your mind] and give it peace. Restored in strength, [your mind] will again flow out from spirit to the spirit in all things created by the Spirit as Itself. Your mind will bless all things. In truth we are Spirit. Spirit is one, eternal and formless. Spirit has no limit and is united with the Source of all strength. It opposes nothing, for there is nothing outside of Spirit. Spirit is at peace because there is nothing real that conflicts with it. Spirit is joyful, for Its only function is to extend Love.

If it seems that we are alone, weak and subject to outside forces, it is only because we have mistakenly identified with a false image of what we are. The body is not our identity. We are not lost in a dream world of conflict, uncertainty, fear and guilt. But we will experience that we are in the world when we believe we are a body, a separate identity. It is this mistaken belief that must be healed. As we let our minds return in peace to our one Self, we are healed. We will welcome the thoughts we share with God, the Thoughts of our one Self. This is our release and our freedom.

Today we would welcome the Thoughts we share with God.

How to Awaken to Love

I said before that the Holy Spirit is the Answer. …When the ego tempts you to sickness do not ask the Holy Spirit to heal the body, for this would merely be to accept the ego’s belief that the body is the proper aim of healing. Ask, rather, that the Holy Spirit teach you the right perception of the body, for perception alone can be distorted. Only perception can be sick, because only perception can be wrong.

Wrong perception is the wish that things be as they are not.

All forms of sickness, even unto death, are physical expressions of the fear of awakening.

The decision to wake is the reflection of the will to love, since all healing involves replacing fear with love. (A Course in Miracles, T-8.IX.1:1,5-7;2:1;3:2;5:2. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

It’s helpful to learn that lack of peace or sickness of any kind is an expression of fear of awakening. It comes from wrong perception, which is “the wish to be as we are not.” We were created by Love as Love. Love and fear cannot coexist. The presence of fear demonstrates that we are denying the Love we are. This causes wrong perception, which needs to be corrected. The way out of fear is to ask the Holy Spirit for correction of our perception and to accept the correction. This is what forgiveness means.

We must ask the Holy Spirit for correction because the ego is incapable of true perception. The Holy Spirit will always guide us back to alignment with His perception. He will always return us to Love, our only Reality. Today we practice opening our minds to Holy Spirit’s right perception.

Rise Above to See the Love

Today we offer thanks that Christ has come to search the world for what belongs to Him. His vision sees no strangers, but beholds His Own and joyously unites with them. They see Him as a stranger, for they do not recognize themselves. Yet as they give Him welcome, they remember. And He leads them gently home again, where they belong.

Not one does Christ forget. Not one He fails to give you to remember, that your home may be complete and perfect as it was established. He has not forgotten you. But you will not remember Him until you look on all as He does. Who denies his brother is denying Him, and thus refusing to accept the gift of sight by which his Self is clearly recognized, his home remembered and salvation come. Christ sees everyone as His brother, at one with Him. This is another way of saying Love sees only Love. Our one Self sees only the one Self we share with all. Our true function is to share this vision. But we cannot see this unity if we see anyone as different from us. That is why we must forgive.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, forgiveness sees past the appearance of differences to the one Self we all share. With each perception of differences, our only function is to practice reminding ourselves that we desire to see past the appearance to the Love that is true. Today we would rise above to see the Love that is our Self. That is our function.

Bringing Love to the World

My thoughts are images that I have made. Whatever I see reflects my thoughts. It is my thoughts that tell me where I am and what I am. The fact that I see a world in which there is suffering and loss and death shows me that I am seeing only the representation of my insane thoughts, and am not allowing my real thoughts to cast their beneficent light on what I see. Yet God’s way is sure. The images I have made cannot prevail against Him because it is not my will that they do so. My will is His, and I will place no other gods before Him. When we look at a house, a passing car or someone walking on the street, it doesn’t seem that these are images we have made. But the Course is teaching us that these are representations of the ego thought system. When we believe separation is real, we join the ego thought system. The part of our mind that holds this belief sees the images representing this belief. All the forms of the world are made by the ego thought system to convince us that separation is real.

Belief does not make reality, but it can make illusions seem real. The Course is teaching us to recognize that everything we see in the world is not real. It is the core message we need to accept if we would free ourselves from fear and guilt.

Guilt is always associated with what a body does. As long as we believe that the body is our identity, we will walk in fear and guilt. Yet we are identifying with an illusion and believing it is true is insanity.

As we are willing to let the Holy Spirit show us the truth beyond the images of insanity, we will learn that our true will is God’s Will. Since God’s Will is to be and extend only Love, our will is to be Love. As we accept What we are, we will overlook the insanity and bring Love to the world. That is our only function.

Making Way for Happiness

I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation. We side with truth and let illusions go. We will not vacillate between the two, but take a firm position with the One. We dedicate ourselves to truth today, and to salvation as God planned it be.

We have a mighty purpose to fulfill, and have been given everything we need with which to reach the goal. Not one mistake stands in our way. For we have been absolved from errors. All our sins are washed away by realizing they were but mistakes.

[The guiltless] rest in quiet certainty that they will do what it is given them to do. They do not doubt their own ability because they know their function will be filled completely in the perfect time and place. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 98, W-pI.98.1:3-5;2:3-6;3:3-4. Accepting God’s plan for salvation is the key to happiness because His Will for us is perfect happiness. Our dedication to accepting God’s plan sets us on the path to joy beyond description in this world.

God’s plan is very simple: Stop investing our belief in illusions of separation and we will know perfect happiness. We will know that our real will has always been God’s Will. We have help to let go of our mistaken beliefs. We need only be willing to offer our beliefs to our inner Teacher with willingness to learn a better way.

This only seems difficult to do because we believe we will lose what we value if we accept our inner Teacher’s lessons. Yet our Teacher’s lessons are gentle and kind. He does not take what we are unwilling to give. But He will lovingly show us that what we thought was so precious really has no value. When we accept that it is nothing we freely lay it down, making way for our Teacher’s gifts of Love and joy.

Let the Holy Spirit Be Our Interpreter

Nothing the world believes is true. It is a place whose purpose is to be a home where those who claim they do not know themselves can come to question what it is they are. And they will come again until the time Atonement is accepted, and they learn it is impossible to doubt yourself, and not to be aware of what you are.

We have a mission here. We did not come to reinforce the madness that we once believed in. Let us not forget the goal that we accepted. It is more than just our happiness alone we came to gain. What we accept as what we are proclaims what everyone must be, along with us. Fail not your brothers, or you fail yourself. Look lovingly on them, that they may know that they are part of you, and you of them. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 139, W-pI.139.7;9. See also ACIM Lesson 139 Insights.)

The world we see was made to be a place where the oneness of Love cannot enter. Yet we were created by Love so the truth of What we are must be in the oneness of Love. Oneness is all inclusive and excludes nothing. Thus seeing anyone as apart from us is the denial of Oneness and therefore the denial of What we are.

That we believe we are separate from oneness is obvious in the world we see. But belief does not make reality. We are here to learn that we remain as God created us. We remain one in Love with All that is. We need to learn to recognize how our mistaken belief presents us with false images that seem to justify the belief. We need to align ourselves with the Teacher Who knows what is true and what is false. The more we practice letting the Holy Spirit be our interpreter moment by moment, the more we will be able to see past the false images to our oneness with our brother in the Love we share.

The “language” of the ego is foreign to our one Self. As we let the Holy Spirit be our interpreter, He will teach us to translate the language of fear and guilt into the recognition of calls for Love. Our natural response will be to answer with Love. This is how we demonstrate and teach our brother and ourself that we are Love and nothing else.

Bringing Heaven’s Unity to the World

I could see peace instead of this. Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.

Search your mind for fear thoughts, anxiety-provoking situations, “offending” personalities or events, or anything else about which you are harboring unloving thoughts. Note them all casually, repeating [“I could see peace instead of this”] slowly as you watch them arise in your mind, and let each one go, to be replaced by the next. The practice of this lesson has the potential to heal our minds and bring back the remembrance of our Creator. It applies to all our perceptions in the world. Each time we tell ourselves, “I could see peace instead of this” we are strengthening our willingness to step back from the ego’s view and welcome the Holy Spirit’s vision that shows us Love and nothing else. With this vision there is no conflict, no need to defend, no thought of judgment, no guilt. Thus this practice opens the door to forgiveness and lets it shine away the dark shadows of the ego’s denial of Love.

We have a role to play in the salvation of the world. Each time we choose peace instead of conflict, we bring healing to the world. Each time we let the Holy Spirit answer calls for Love through us, we learn more deeply that we are Love and nothing else, along with every brother. We are less likely to exclude some “offenders” as unworthy of Love. As we lay these exclusions down, we join with our brothers and bring Heaven’s unity to the world.
