Accepting True Correction

Correction is not your function. It belongs to One Who knows of fairness, not of guilt. If you assume correction’s role, you lose the function of forgiveness. No one can forgive until he learns correction is but to forgive, and never to accuse.

Correction must be left to One Who knows correction and forgiveness are the same. With half a mind this is not understood. Leave, then, correction to the Mind that is united, functioning as one because it is not split in purpose, and conceives a single function as its only one. …In His acceptance of this function lies the means whereby your mind is unified. His single purpose unifies the halves of you that you perceive as separate. And each forgives the other, that he may accept his other half as part of him. If we perceive that anything or anyone is wrong, we must believe that we know what is right. But this perception is based on our identification with the ego thought system of separation. It is our perception that is wrong. And we are incapable of correcting the wrong from this viewpoint. This is why all correction must come from the Holy Spirit, Whose only purpose is to bring truth to the part of our mind that believes that separation is true. It is essential that we give up the idea that we know what anything in this world of separation means if we want to find peace.

We ask today for the Holy Spirit’s perception of the Truth to replace our misperceptions based on the belief in being separate and alone. As we accept this correction in our perception, our minds are returned to sanity. We will remember that nothing has happened to change our one Self, God’s one Son. This is how we are healed.

What Brings True and Lasting Comfort?

To mean you want the peace of God is to renounce all dreams. For no one means these words who wants illusions, and who therefore seeks the means which bring illusions. He has looked on them, and found them wanting. Now he seeks to go beyond them, recognizing that another dream would offer nothing more than all the others. Dreams are one to him. And he has learned their only difference is one of form, for one will bring the same despair and misery as do the rest.

The mind which means that all it wants is peace must join with other minds, for that is how peace is obtained. And when the wish for peace is genuine, the means for finding it is given, in a form each mind that seeks for it in honesty can understand. Whatever form the lesson takes is planned for him in such a way that he can not mistake it, if his asking is sincere. But if he asks without sincerity, there is no form in which the lesson will meet with acceptance and be truly learned. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 185, W-pI.185.5-6). What do we think will comfort us? We need to look how we answer this. Do we think comfort will come by having attention given us by a certain someone? Do we think we will be comforted by attaining a particular status or by having more money or living in a certain place?

If we answer yes to questions like these, we are looking to forms to bring us comfort, to make us happy. But forms are empty, having no meaning of their own. If we truly mean we want the peace of God, we must overlook all forms to welcome the formless, eternal Love that is God’s gift to us as our one Self.

When we are not at peace, it is because we have judged against what we perceive is our situation or relationship. We are believing that if we can somehow change the form to our liking, we will be happy. We are looking for comfort in a form, but a form cannot bring true and lasting peace.

Today we will redirect our attention to seek beyond form to accept God’s gift of perfect peace.

Light and Joy and Peace Abide in You

Whatever mistakes you made, the truth about you is unchanged. Creation is eternal and unalterable. Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God. You are and will forever be exactly as you were created. Light and joy and peace abide in you because God put them there.

Try to experience the unity of your one Self. Try to appreciate Its Holiness and the love from which It was created. Try not to interfere with the Self which God created as you…. Let It come into Its Own. Here you are; This is You. And light and joy and peace abide in you because this is so.

Should you be tempted to become angry with someone, tell him silently:

Light and joy and peace abide in you.
Your sinlessness is guaranteed by God.

You can do much for the world’s salvation today. You can do much today to bring you closer to the part in salvation that God has assigned to you. And you can do much today to bring the conviction to your mind that [light and joy and peace abide in you] is true indeed. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 93, W-pI.93.7:3-7;9:3-8;11:2-7. We cannot change the Self that God created as His one Son. We can deny It and ignore It, but we cannot change It. When we identify with the body as what we are, we are denying the Self that God created. Likewise, we are denying the Self when we believe anyone is a body. It is this false identification which must be undone for us to experience the Light and joy and peace that abide in us.

The body is the ego’s mechanism for making separation and harm seem real. Thus it is the body that is the target of all judgment and guilt. But belief that we are a body does not change the Self that God created. Thus our sinlessness is guaranteed by God.

Today we remind ourselves frequently that Light and joy and peace abide in us and our sinlessness is guaranteed by God. To the ego this thought seems farfetched and arrogant. Yet to the Self God created, It is simply the truth. As we affirm this truth, we loosen our identification with a false identity. The dark world of separation becomes less and less convincing as we accept with greater certainty that we are as God created us.

Extending Blessing to the World

You have need to use the symbols of the world a while. But be you not deceived by them as well. They do not stand for anything at all, and in your practicing it is this thought that will release you from them. They become but means by which you can communicate in ways the world can understand, but which you recognize is not the unity where true communication can be found.

Thus what you need are intervals each day in which the learning of the world becomes a transitory phase; a prison house from which you go into the sunlight and forget the darkness. …And then step back to darkness, not because you think it real, but only to proclaim its unreality in terms which still have meaning in the world that darkness rules.

Use all the little names and symbols which delineate the world of darkness. Yet accept them not as your reality. The Holy Spirit uses all of them, but He does not forget creation has one Name, one meaning, and a single Source which unifies all things within Itself. We pause now to open our minds to the presence of Love… We bathe in Love’s Light… and welcome Its peaceful touch… We feel the comfort of remembering our unity with every brother and our Source… We feel the joy flowing throughout the unity without limit… We rest in It awhile… We feel Its strength fill our being…

In this calm and quiet state, we remember our true Identity is Love… With joy in our hearts we bring this awareness with us as we step back into the world of form… We remember that all the forms are simply symbols which we use to express the reality of Love, Its strength and Its happiness…

The blessing we feel we extend to the world…

We Can Bring Peace to the World

Your peace surrounds me, Father. Where I go, Your peace goes there with me. It sheds its light on everyone I meet. I bring it to the desolate and lonely and afraid. I give Your peace to those who suffer pain, or grieve for loss, or think they are bereft of hope and happiness. Send them to me, my Father. Let me bring Your peace with me. For I would save Your Son, as is Your Will, that I may come to recognize my Self.

And so we go in peace. To all the world we give the message that we have received. And thus we come to hear the Voice for God, Who speaks to us as we relate His Word; Whose Love we recognize because we share the Word that He has given unto us. We can bring peace to the world because God’s peace goes with us everywhere we go. To do this we must let go of our self-made limitations which hide the peace of God from our awareness. We need to shift our identification away from thinking we are a separate individual limited to a body. As we remember and accept that we are Spirit, united with the Spirit in all things, the barriers disappear. The Spirit we are has no limits and is eternally in peace.

Imagine what it would be like to be in a state of peace that cannot be disturbed. Imagine seeing the world from this state of peace. The appearances of conflict fade and are recognized as inconsequential. What has no consequence cannot be a threat and so peace remains undisturbed. As we bring this peace to our brothers in our thoughts and deeds, peace extends through them. We are joined together in the heart of our Creator, knowing that we are loved and loving. We are Home.

Learning Holy Spirit’s Lessons in Love

Only appreciation is an appropriate response to your brother. Gratitude is due him for both his loving thoughts and his appeals for help, for both are capable of bringing love into your awareness if you perceive them truly. And all your sense of strain comes from your attempts not to do just this. How simple, then, is God’s plan for salvation. There is but one response to reality, for reality evokes no conflict at all. There is but one Teacher of reality, Who understands what it is. He does not change His Mind about reality because reality does not change. Although your interpretations of reality are meaningless in your divided state, His remain consistently true. He gives them to you because they are for you. Do not attempt to “help” a brother in your way, for you cannot help yourself. But hear his call for the Help of God, and you will recognize your own need for the Father. While we identify with the ego thought system, our interpretations of reality will always be mistaken. The ego is the denial of reality, the denial of Love. The ego sees lovelessness everywhere and builds defenses against attacks of lovelessness.

The ego sees appearances of lovelessness as justification for defense and attack. The Holy Spirit sees appearances of lovelessness as calls for Love. A loveless perception could only come from a mistaken belief that there could be lack of Love. The Holy Spirit would correct the mistaken belief by responding with Love.

When we react with defensiveness, we do so because we believe we lack Love. The Holy Spirit would offer His gentle correction by offering us Love in answer to our call. As we let our minds be healed, we bring healing to the world. The Holy Spirit is always with us, ready to help us respond with Love in every situation. This is how we learn that we are Love, along with all our brothers.

We Cannot Be Alone

We walk to God. Pause and reflect on this. Could any way be holier, or more deserving of your effort, of your love and of your full intent? What way could give you more than everything, or offer less and still content the holy Son of God? We walk to God. The truth that walks before us now is one with Him, and leads us to where He has always been. What way but this could be a path that you would choose instead?

Your feet are safely set upon the road that leads the world to God. Look not to ways that seem to lead you elsewhere. Dreams are not a worthy guide for you who are God’s Son. Forget not He has placed His Hand in yours, and given you your brothers in His trust that you are worthy of His trust in you. He cannot be deceived. His trust has made your pathway certain and your goal secure. You will not fail your brothers nor your Self.

And now He asks but that you think of Him a while each day, that He may speak to you and tell you of His Love, reminding you how great His trust; how limitless His Love. In your Name and His Own, which are the same, we practice gladly with this thought today:

I will step back and let Him lead the way,

God’s Love is always with us, eternally and without limit. It needs only our acknowledgement, our willingness to accept His gift. We cannot be alone. His strength is ours and we would claim it now.

Each day we need to take time to step back from the busyness of the world. In this pause we open our minds to be reminded of the Love that is already ours. In quietness we welcome God’s peace. We let Him lead the way that leads us to the full remembrance of our Home in the eternal presence of Love.

With this as our foundation, we go forth into each day carrying the message that we are all united in Love. As we accept this as our reality, our brothers join with us on the path of return to Love.
