Freedom to Be Love and Nothing Else

could see peace instead of this. Peace of mind is clearly an internal matter. It must begin with your own thoughts, and then extend outward. It is from your peace of mind that a peaceful perception of the world arises.

It is your inner world to which the applications of today’s idea should be made.

Search your mind for fear thoughts, anxiety-provoking situations, “offending” personalities or events, or anything else about which you are harboring unloving thoughts.

The purpose is to protect yourself from temptation throughout the day. If a specific form of temptation arises in your awareness, the exercise should take this form:

I could see peace in this situation instead of what I now see in it.

It will help you if you tell yourself specifically:

I can replace my feelings of depression, anxiety or worry [or my thoughts about this situation, personality or event] with peace. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 34, W-pI.34.1:2-4;2:4;3:2;5:2-4;6:3-4. See also ACIM Lesson 34 Insights.)

The Course tells us that peace and understanding always come together. This is why the practice of reminding ourselves that we could see peace in place of anything that disturbs our peace is essential to release ourselves from the limitations of the ego. Peace is the condition of knowledge; it is the condition of knowing that the peace of God is our own.

The practice of opening our minds to see peace in place of any disturbance is the means of returning to our true Home in the Heart of God. This practice will free us from the fear and guilt inherent in the ego thought system. It will free us from identifying with a false, separate identity. It will lead us to the full remembrance that we are Love and nothing else, for only Love is real.

Choosing the Path to Freedom

Henceforth, hear but the Voice for God and for your Self when you retire from the world, to seek reality instead. He will direct your efforts, telling you exactly what to do, how to direct your mind, and when to come to Him in silence, asking for His sure direction and His certain Word. His is the Word that God has given you. His is the Word you chose to be your own.

And now I place you in His hands, to be His faithful follower, with Him as Guide through every difficulty and all pain that you may think is real. Nor will He give you pleasures that will pass away, for He gives only the eternal and the good. Let Him prepare you further. He has earned your trust by speaking daily to you of your Father and your brother and your Self. He will continue. Now you walk with Him, as certain as is He of where you go; as sure as He of how you should proceed; as confident as He is of the goal, and of your safe arrival in the end.

You do not walk alone. God’s angels hover near and all about. His Love surrounds you, and of this be sure; that I will never leave you comfortless. (, A Course in Miracles Workbook Epilogue, W-pII.ep.3:2-4:6;6:6-8)

We have a Friend ever present in our mind Whose sole purpose is to guide us back to full remembrance that we are at Home in Heaven, now. The antidote to all the perceive problems, pain, uncertainty, guilt and fear is to turn to our dear Friend for guidance in all things.

Today we choose the path to freedom. Today we choose to listen to the Voice for God, our true Friend. As we follow His lead, we walk steadily toward the peace and joy and Love of our Home in God. This is our choice today and every day.

The Key to Finding Happiness

[Your brother] is your savior from your specialness. He is in need of your acceptance of himself as part of you, as you for his. You [both] are alike to God as God is to Himself. He is not special, for He would not keep one part of what He is unto Himself…. And it is this you fear, for if He is not special, then He willed His Son to be like Him, and your brother is like you. Not special, but possessed of everything, including you. Give him [your brother] but what he has, remembering God gave Himself to you and your brother in equal Love, that both might share the universe with Him Who chose that Love could never be divided, and kept separate from what It is and must forever be.

The key you threw away God gave your brother, whose holy hands would offer it to you when you were ready to accept His plan for your salvation in the place of yours. How could this readiness be reached save through the sight of all your misery, and the awareness that your plan has failed, and will forever fail to bring you peace and joy of any kind? Through this despair you travel now, yet it is but illusion of despair. The death of specialness is not your death, but your awaking into life eternal. You but emerge from an illusion of what you are to the acceptance of yourself as God created you. (A Course in Miracles, T-24.II.10;14). See also ACIM Text Made Simple.

Do we experience peace that cannot be disturbed, indescribable joy and changeless Love without limit? If not, we have accepted a substitute plan for salvation that sets us apart as special and alone. This substitute plan offers empty gifts of specialness, which are illusions with no meaning or substance. This plan never satisfies and leads us on a constant search for peace and happiness where it cannot be found.

The images we treasure in this substitute plan must be defended because they cannot stand alone. This substitute plan brings fear with it, for certainty is impossible. Our experience in the world of vulnerability, lack, unworthiness, guilt and fear shows us that we are subscribing to a plan for our salvation that does not work. Its gifts are treacherous, for they deny the gifts of our Creator, which offer us Heaven as our Home.

We have the key standing with us in our brother. We need only let the Holy Spirit show us the truth of our brother, free from our projections of specialness, at one with us in God’s Love. We are learning that the substitute plan for happiness we have sought does not work. It is time to choose the plan already set in place by letting the Holy Spirit show us the Love that is our brother and ourself.

Our Journey of Awakening to Love

You are a stranger here. But you belong to Him Who loves you as He loves Himself. Ask but my help to roll the stone away, and it is done according to His Will. We have begun the journey. Long ago the end was written in the stars and set into the Heavens with a shining Ray that held it safe within eternity and through all time as well. And holds it still; unchanged, unchanging and unchangeable.

What is here begun will grow in life and strength and hope, until the world is still an instant and forgets all that the dream of sin had made of it.

Let us go out and meet the newborn world, knowing that Christ has been reborn in it, and that the holiness of this rebirth will last forever. We had lost our way but He has found it for us. Let us go and bid Him welcome Who returns to us to celebrate salvation and the end of all we thought we made. The morning star of this new day looks on a different world where God is welcomed and His Son with Him. We who complete Him offer thanks to Him, as He gives thanks to us. The Son is still, and in the quiet God has given him enters his home and is at peace at last. (A Course in Miracles,C-ep.2;4:7-5:6)

Christ is the one Self we share with all our brothers. Christ is the symbol of our sinlessness and changeless Love. To accept our true Self as our Identity is to accept Christ. It is our acceptance as our true Self that acknowledges our oneness with our Creator and with every brother. In oneness, there is no conflict. There is perfect stillness in the peace of God. This is our true Home, which we have never left in truth.

We have dreamt of another world of limitation and conflict. Here guilt and fear are our constant companion. There is a sense of being incomplete because the dream denies our completion in our Creator. We are on a constant quest to find what is “missing.” Yet it always seems to be beyond our reach.

We are now on a journey of awakening to leave this fearful dream behind. We have heard the call of our true Self, the Christ within. It calls us Home to remember that we remain Love as Love created us. We remain whole and complete in this Love. Illusions of incompletion and separation are fading now, for we are learning that we are indeed at Home now, in the loving embrace of God’s Love.

Accepting Our Limitlessness

Everyone has experienced what he would call a sense of being transported beyond himself. …It is a sense of actual escape from limitations. …it is a sudden unawareness of the body, and a joining of yourself and something else in which your mind enlarges to encompass it. …you have given up the illusion of a limited awareness, and lost your fear of union. …You have escaped from fear to peace, asking no questions of reality, but merely accepting it. You have accepted this instead of the body, and have let yourself be one with something beyond it, simply by not letting your mind be limited by it.

In these instants of release from physical restrictions, you experience much of what happens in the holy instant; the lifting of the barriers of time and space, the sudden experience of peace and joy, and, above all, the lack of awareness of the body, and of the questioning whether or not all this is possible.

Come to this place of refuge, where you can be yourself in peace. Not through destruction, not through a breaking out, but merely by a quiet melting in. For peace will join you there, simply because you have been willing to let go the limits you have placed upon love, and joined it where it is and where it led you, in answer to its gentle call to be at peace. The only reason we do not experience being Love, in perfect peace and indescribable joy, is that we have chosen to believe in an identity of limitation. When we believe we are a body, we deny the truth of the Self that Love created. That Self is ever-present but unknown to us by our denial. This is why the Course asks us to affirm repeatedly for 20 days, “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.”

This affirmation is a denial of our denial of our true Self. It is reminding us that we are as unlimited as our Creator, timeless and infinite. We are free, right now, to be our Self. The practice of asking Holy Spirit to be our Interpreter of all our perceptions will teach us to free ourselves from our self-imposed limitations and remember that we are Love.

Accepting the Flow of God’s Love

The body is a limit imposed on the universal communication that is an eternal property of mind. But the communication is internal. Mind reaches to itself. It is not made up of different parts, which reach each other. It does not go out. Within itself it has no limits, and there is nothing outside it. It encompasses everything. It encompasses you entirely; you within it and it within you. There is nothing else, anywhere or ever.

The body is outside you, and but seems to surround you, shutting you off from others and keeping you apart from them, and them from you. It is not there. There is no barrier between God and His Son, nor can His Son be separated from Himself except in illusions.

You can stretch out your hand and reach to Heaven. You whose hand is joined with your brother’s have begun to reach beyond the body, but not outside yourself, to reach your shared Identity together. …You are surrounded only by [God]. What limits can there be on you whom He encompasses? (A Course in Miracles, T-18.VI.8:3-9:3;10:1-2,6-7. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Do we want to be supremely happy? Do we want to experience peace that cannot be disturbed? Do we want to experience perfect Love, without interruption? All this was given us in our Creation by the Source of all Love.

We don’t experience this because we have identified with the body, a limit on our communication with our Source. God is in constant communication with His Creation, His Son, our true Self. Our identification with the body makes us unaware of God’s constant flow of Love to us.

Identification with the body makes it appear that there are things outside us that can harm us or seem to give us pleasure. But these appearances are illusions, along with the body. Illusions have no substance of their own. Only the meaning we give them seems to give them value. But meanings can change. Who seemed to be a friend can become an enemy on a whim.

The world of illusions is out of our control, though we spend most of our time trying to control our circumstances to be happy and safe. But God’s Universe, our real Home, is changeless. What is changeless needs no control. It is eternally safe and extends forever. The Changeless is our eternal Home as God’s one Son. Here we are united with every brother, who shares our one Self.

Seeing Our Unity in Love’s Innocence

Think of the loveliness that you will see, who walk with Him [Christ]! And think how beautiful will you and your brother look to the other! How happy you will be to be together, after such a long and lonely journey where you walked alone. The gates of Heaven, open now for you, will you now open to the sorrowful. And none who looks upon the Christ in you but will rejoice. How beautiful the sight you saw beyond the veil, which you will bring to light the tired eyes of those as weary now as once you were. How thankful will they be to see you come among them, offering Christ’s forgiveness to dispel their faith in sin.

To all who share the Love of God the grace is given to be the givers of what they have received. And so they learn that [God’s Love] is theirs forever. …Those who would let illusions be lifted from their minds are this world’s saviors, walking the world with their Redeemer [Christ], and carrying His message of hope and freedom and release from suffering to everyone who needs a miracle to save him. Christ is the symbol of Love’s innocence. We see the face of Christ in our brother when we look past the image of a separate self and the belief in separation to see the one Self we share. This Self is united in God’s Love. This Self accepted God’s Love and gives God’s Love eternally.

As we learn to see our one Self in every brother, the veil of belief in separation dissolves and we recognize the Christ in our brother as our Self. We walk together in the safety, peace and joy that is God’s eternal gift to us. We help the world as we practice, with Holy Spirit’s help, seeing the face of Christ in every brother — seeing our unity in Love’s innocence.

Let us join together today in the practice of accepting Christ’s vision and using it to see the world as wholly Love and nothing else.
