Bringing God’s Blessing to the World

My sinless brother is my guide to peace. My sinful brother is my guide to pain. And which I choose to see I will behold.

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? And if I see him sinful [separate] I proclaim myself a sinner, not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. If we see a brother as a body capable of harm, we are seeing a reflection of what we believe about ourselves. The Holy Spirit, being the Voice for Love, sees every brother united in Love.

As we keep our mind open to the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of our perceptions of the world, we welcome the peace that comes with remembering we are the loving Son of God. We see every brother as the Love God sees as His Son. We remember His joy.

In every moment we are free to make this choice: To let the Holy Spirit judge all things on our behalf. His judgment is simple and consistent — only Love is real; nothing else exists. We choose to follow God’s Voice today and bring His blessing to the world.

Walking in the Way of Love

This is my holy instant of release.

Father, it is today that I am free, because my will is Yours. I thought to make another will. Yet nothing that I thought apart from You exists. And I am free because I was mistaken, and did not affect my own reality at all by my illusions. Now I give them up, and lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed forever from my mind. This is my holy instant of release. Father, I know my will is one with Yours.

And so today we find our glad return to Heaven, which we never really left. The Son of God this day lays down his dreams. The Son of God this day comes home again, released from sin [separation] and clad in holiness, with his right mind restored to him at last. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 227, W-pII.227. Our only real Thoughts are the Thoughts we think with God. They are Thoughts of Love and nothing else, because only Love is real.

The thoughts we are aware of in the world are not real. They are illusions in the dream held in place by belief that separation is real. Every moment of every day we have the opportunity to choose Love instead of fear, oneness instead of separation. God’s Voice calls to us in every moment to choose Love.

His call brings with it the strength of God. We can rely on this strength to support us as we choose a different path than the one that led to fear and guilt. His strength and Love shine away the shadows of fear that come from belief that we are alone in a loveless world.

We choose Love to be our Guide today because we want to remember that God’s Will is our will. We want to walk in the way of Love. We want to answer calls for love — thoughts and perceptions of conflict and loss — with the certainty and safety of Love. Love knows no limits and makes no judgments. It gives Itself equally to all. This is the Thought that releases us from the dream and returns us Home.

Healing Our Fear-Based Misperceptions

God is the only goal I have today.

The way to God is through forgiveness here. There is no other way. If sin [separation] had not been cherished by the mind, what need would there have been to find the way to where you are? Who would still be uncertain? Who could be unsure of who he is? And who would yet remain asleep, in heavy clouds of doubt about the holiness of him whom God created sinless? Here we can but dream. But we can dream we have forgiven him in whom all sin remains impossible, and it is this we choose to dream today. God is our goal; forgiveness is the means by which our minds return to Him at last.

And so, our Father, would we come to You in Your appointed way. We have no goal except to hear Your Voice, and find the way Your sacred Word has pointed out to us. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 256, W-pII.256. See also ACIM Lesson 256 Insights.)

Our true Self remains eternally united with God in Love. But the dream of a world of bodies and separation hides our true Self from our awareness. The means to return Home to oneness is forgiveness. True forgiveness requires the help of the Holy Spirit to show us that what we thought happened in the dream never occurred in truth.

The split mind that dreams of a world of separation is incapable of forgiveness because it is the denial of Love. By God’s grace we have been given the Holy Spirit to guide us to the reinterpretation of all our perceptions in the dream.

The Holy Spirit will show us the truth behind our misperceptions. As we learn His lessons, the world’s images of separation, fear and guilt fade and lose their seeming importance. As the dream becomes increasingly a dream of forgiveness, we live with a happy heart, free to Love and free to be our true Self. We lay down the dream of separation and awaken to our Home in God. Today we ask the Holy Spirit for help to heal our misperceptions.

Finding the Peace of Heaven Now

This day I choose to spend in perfect peace.

It does not seem to me that I can choose to have but peace today. And yet, my God assures me that His Son is like Himself. Let me this day have faith in Him Who says I am God’s Son. And let the peace I choose be mine today bear witness to the truth of what He says. God’s Son can have no cares, and must remain forever in the peace of Heaven. In His Name, I give today to finding what my Father wills for me, accepting it as mine, and giving it to all my Father’s Sons, along with me.

And so, my Father, would I pass this day with You. Your Son has not forgotten You. The peace You gave him still is in his mind, and it is there I choose to spend today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 255, W-pII.255. See also ACIM Lesson 255 Insights.)

Peace in the world seems impossible today. Stories of sickness and death dominate the news. Yet within us, beneath all these appearances, remains God’s peace. God gave His Son all of What He Is — His Love, peace and joy. The Truth in us, the one Self we all share, is God’s Son. God guarantees His gift, never to be withdrawn. His gift is unknown to us only because we have hidden it beneath the ego’s dream that denies God’s Love.

Sickness, pain and death are instruments of the ego made to frighten us into believing these appearances are real. Though the Love of God remains forever present, we need to follow the Guide He gave us to lead us out of the ego’s dream of lovelessness. We have not lost God’s gift, only hidden it from our awareness.

Today we choose to accept the Holy Spirit’s help to recognize the dream for what it is and overlook it. The Holy Spirit will guide us out of the wilderness of the ego’s dreams to remember our true Self, God’s Son at Home in Heaven now. We welcome the Holy Spirit’s vision to help us look upon a forgiven world where we recognize the peace of Heaven within.

Our Indestructible Path to God’s Peace

Salvation is a promise, made by God, that you would find your way to Him at last. It cannot but be kept. It guarantees that time will have an end, and all the thoughts that have been born in time will end as well. God’s Word [Holy Spirit] is given every mind which thinks that it has separate thoughts, and will replace these thoughts of conflict with the Thought of peace.

The Thought of peace was given to God’s Son the instant that his mind had thought of war [conflict]. There was no need for such a Thought before, for peace was given without opposite, and merely was. But when the mind is split there is a need of healing. So the Thought that has the power to heal the split became a part of every fragment of the mind that still was one, but failed to recognize its oneness. Now it did not know itself, and thought its own Identity was lost.

Salvation is undoing in the sense that it does nothing, failing to support the world of dreams and malice. Thus it lets illusions go. By not supporting them, it merely lets them quietly go down to dust. And what [illusions] hid is now revealed; an altar to the holy Name of God whereon His Word is written, with the gifts of your forgiveness laid before it, and the memory of God not far behind.

Let us come daily to this holy place, and spend a while together. Here we share our final dream [of complete forgiveness]. It is a dream in which there is no sorrow, for it holds a hint of all the glory given us by God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook What Is Salvation?, W-pII.2.1:1-4:3)

The Holy Spirit is the Thought of peace in our mind. It was placed in our mind by God to ensure we could never lose our connection with our Source. We can deafen ourselves to His Word, we can blind ourselves to the Light of His Love, but we cannot obliterate it from our mind. God’s saving grace provides an indestructible path of return to our Home.

We are eternally safe in the Mind of Love, where conflict is impossible and peace is our constant state. In a world which seems chaotic and a constant threat to our existence, the Holy Spirit is ever present, ready to lead us to safety. He is the means for our salvation. We need only be willing to listen to His Voice and follow His guidance.

This is our practice today. It will be a happy and peaceful day as we rest in God.

The Foundation of Forgiveness

It is your Father’s holy Will that you complete Himself, and that your Self shall be His sacred Son, forever pure as He, of love created and in love preserved, extending love, creating in [Love’s] name, forever one with God and with your Self.

God created One [Holy Spirit] Who has the power to translate in form the wholly form­less. What He makes are dreams, but of a kind so close to wak­ing that the light of day already shines in them, and eyes already opening behold the joyful sights their offerings contain.

Forgiveness gently looks upon all things unknown in Heaven, sees them disappear, and leaves the world a clean and unmarked slate on which the Word of God can now replace the senseless symbols written there before. Forgiveness is the means by which the fear of death is overcome, because it holds no fierce attraction now and guilt is gone. Forgiveness lets the body be perceived as what it is; a simple teaching aid, to be laid by when learning is complete, but hardly changing him who learns at all.

The central error that we must all correct with the Holy Spirit’s help is the belief that we are a body. This belief brings with it the fear of death, harm and loss. The body is the ego’s core image of separation. It seems to make us weak and vulnerable, capable of harming and being harmed; it is the justification for guilt and fear.

Yet the body is an illusion. It’s unreality makes it incapable of affecting reality at all. Our true Self is Love and nothing else. it is incapable of harm or loss because only Love is real. The acceptance of this fact is the foundation of forgiveness.

The Holy Spirit teaches us that all the things we think we did or were done to us as a body and separate identity did not occur in reality. The Holy Spirit’s lessons in forgiveness free us from mistaken beliefs and open our minds to the Light of Love that is our true Self.

To every appearance in the world we can say, “I will forgive and this will disappear.” Today when anything seems to disturb our peace of mind, we will call upon the Holy Spirit in our mind to help us see as He does. Seeing with His vision, we freely release the fear and welcome the Love we are, united with our Creator.

The Holy Spirit’s Role in Mind Healing

Perception is not an attribute of God. His is the realm of knowledge. Yet He has created the Holy Spirit as the Mediator between perception and knowledge. Without this link with God, perception would have replaced knowledge forever in your mind. With this link with God, perception will become so changed and purified that it will lead to knowledge. That is its function as the Holy Spirit sees it. Therefore, that is its function in truth.

In God you cannot see. Perception has no function in God, and does not exist. Yet in salvation, which is the undoing of what never was, perception has a mighty purpose. Made by the Son of God for an unholy purpose, [perception] must become the means for the restoration of his holiness to his awareness. Perception has no meaning. Yet does the Holy Spirit give it a meaning very close to God’s. Healed perception becomes the means by which the Son of God forgives his brother, and thus forgives himself.

You cannot see apart from God because you cannot be apart from God. Whatever you do you do in Him, because whatever you think, you think with His Mind. If vision is real, and it is real to the extent to which it shares the Holy Spirit’s purpose, then you cannot see apart from God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 43, W-pI.43.1-3. The thoughts we are aware of in the world are not our real thoughts. They are hallucinations that seem to make a world in isolation from God. Our only real Thoughts are the Thoughts we share with God. They are Thoughts of extending and joining in Love, because only Love is real.

This lesson is spelling out the essential role the Holy Spirit plays in helping us awaken from a dream of lovelessness. Without the Holy Spirit as our unbreakable link with God, we would have condemned ourselves to a loveless hell with no chance of release.

We must be willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s guidance to help us heal our misperceptions. As we practice daily, minute by minute, maintaining an open mind to receive the Holy Spirit’s perception in place of our own, we are freed from fear and guilt. The ego uses fear and guilt to command our attention. It speaks first and loudly, drawing upon memories of the past to construct false perceptions of harm that we believe are true.

The presence of lack of peace is a sure sign that we are not accepting the Holy Spirit’s perception. Today we practice frequently pausing to step back from thoughts of fear and guilt. We choose instead to welcome the peace of God in our mind. In quietness we receive Holy Spirit’s message that nothing can happen to harm God’s Son, our true Self.

As the Mediator between perception and knowledge, the Holy Spirit teaches us in a form that we can understand. Each time we accept His perception, we accept the Light of Love in our mind. Our thoughts are purified and we move closer to the full remembrance of the Life we live in God.
