How to Bring Salvation to the World

Ours are the eyes through which Christ’s vision sees a world redeemed from every thought of sin. Ours are the ears that hear the Voice for God proclaim the world as sinless. Ours the minds that join together as we bless the world. And from the oneness that we have attained we call to all our brothers, asking them to share our peace and consummate our joy.

We are the holy messengers of God who speak for Him, and carrying His Word to everyone whom He has sent to us, we learn that it is written on our hearts. And thus our minds are changed about the aim for which we came, and which we seek to serve. We bring glad tidings to the Son of God, who thought he suf­fered. Now is he redeemed. And as he sees the gate of Heaven stand open before him, he will enter in and disappear into the Heart of God. (A Course in Miracles 14. What Am I?, W-pII.14.4-5. See also ACIM Lesson 351 Insights.)

Through accepting Christ’s vision and attending to God’s Voice we are released from the belief in sin and guilt. In the world, when an agreement is committed to, we say, “You have my word on it.” God’s Word is His guarantee that His Son remains one with Him in His eternal Love.

Our only problem is that we have convinced ourselves that a lie is true. The lie is that separation from God is possible. This could only be possible in fantasy. But this fantasy has become our world through our belief. We have the means to awaken from this fantasy in our mind. This means it is not available within the thought system of the dream. Though a part of our mind has accepted the fantasy as real, we have not lost the Mind we share with God where Love is accepted as the only Reality.

We have the option to listen to God’s Voice and see with Christ’s vision by choosing to use Them as our Guide. We do this first by remembering we do not know what anything means as we perceive it in the world. With this remembrance we then step back, pause and let the chatter in our mind pass by.

Instead of giving attention to the chatter, we focus our attention on our inner Guidance. As we accept this Guidance, we have the strength and the clarity to see past the smokescreen of the world to the universal presence of Love. We recognize our brothers as one with us in the unity of God’s Son. We bring salvation to the world.

Acknowledging That We Need Help

The world can teach no images [concepts] of you unless you want to learn them. There will come a time when images have all gone by, and you will see you know not what you are. It is to this unsealed and open mind that truth returns, unhindered and unbound. Where concepts of the self have been laid by is truth revealed exactly as it is. When every concept has been raised to doubt and question, and been recognized as made on no assumptions that would stand the light, then is the truth left free to enter in its sanctuary, clean and free of guilt. There is no statement that the world is more afraid to hear than this:

I do not know the thing I am, and therefore do not know what I am doing, where I am, or how to look upon the world or on myself.

Yet in this learning is salvation born. And What you are will tell you of Itself.

Salvation does not ask that you behold the spirit and perceive the body not. It merely asks that this should be your choice. (A Course in Miracles, T-31.V.17;VI.3:1-2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego is constantly defending against the recognition that we are Spirit, not a body. The body itself is designed to be unaware of Spirit and see only the physical world. To reinforce the seeming reality of the world of form, the ego presents myriad demonstrations that the body and all forms are vulnerable to change and hurt. This is all intended to make impermanence and ultimately death appear real. This carefully constructed paradigm could never be real because only the oneness of God’s Love is real.

Much of the Course is dedicated to helping us loosen our belief that the world of form is real. It shows us the pain and suffering, fear and guilt that come with accepting this belief. This helps us become more willing to consider a better way. The Course also offers us ways to open our minds to the experience of our Self as Spirit. The experience of Spirit brings with it joy and peace and Love. The more we have experiences with Spirit, the greater our willingness to choose the oneness of Spirit instead of the illusion of separation.

Today we remind ourselves that we do not know what we are or how to look upon the world. We acknowledge that we need help. We call upon the Holy Spirit for His strength and vision to help us awaken to our true Self as Spirit.

Calling upon the Strength of Love

I am not asked to make a sacrifice To find the mercy and the peace of God.

The end of suffering can not be loss. The gift of everything can be but gain. You only give. You never take away. And You created me to be like You, so sacrifice becomes impossible for me as well as You. I, too, must give. And so all things are given unto me forever and forever. As I was created I remain. Your Son can make no sacrifice, for he must be complete, having the function of completing You. I am complete because I am Your Son. I cannot lose, for I can only give, and everything is mine eternally.

The mercy and the peace of God are free. Salvation has no cost. It is a gift that must be freely given and received. And it is this that we would learn today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 343, W-pII.343. See also ACIM Lesson 343 Insights.)

When we give things in the world, we no longer have what we gave away. But because forms are not real, we have actually given nothing. We have neither lost when we give nor do we gain anything when someone gives us something in the world. The illusion of form was made by the ego to hide the fact that the contents of these forms is nothing.

All that we can really give in the world is Love, for only Love is real. God’s gift of Love is eternal and unlimited. The nature of Love is to extend Itself. We know that we have God’s Love by doing what Love does—extending It. Only unforgiveness interferes with our natural extension of the Love we are.

To be saved from the fear and guilt of the ego’s world, we need to forgive our mistaken identification with the ego. Forgiveness is our salvation, for it removes the barrier to awareness of Love’s presence. It lets us be the Love we were created to be by letting God’s Love extend through us to our brothers, who have always been one with us in truth.

Today we call upon the strength of Love within us to help us see the Love that unites us with every brother.

Clearing Our Direct Connection with God

God indeed can be reached directly, for there is no distance between Him and His Son. His awareness is in everyone’s memory, and His Word is written on everyone’s heart. Yet this awareness and this memory can arise across the threshold of recognition only where all barriers to truth have been removed.

If God were reached directly in sustained awareness, the body would not be long maintained. Those who have laid the body down merely to extend their helpfulness to those remaining behind are few indeed. And they need helpers who are still in bondage and still asleep, so that by their awakening can God’s Voice be heard.

Do not despair, then, because of limitations. It is your function to escape from them, but not to be without them. If you would be heard by those who suffer, you must speak their language. If you would be a savior, you must understand what needs to be escaped. Salvation is not theoretical. Behold the problem, ask for the answer, and then accept it when it comes. Nor will its coming be long delayed. All the help you can accept will be provided, and not one need you have will not be met. Let us not, then, be too concerned with goals for which you are not ready. God takes you where you are and welcomes you. What more could you desire, when this is all you need? (A Course in Miracles, M-26.1:1-3;3:8-10;4)

We teach by demonstration. When we act on our perceptions based on our identity as a body, we teach that separation and lovelessness are real. We will continue to teach these false lessons as long as we follow the ego’s dictates.

If we would teach salvation, we must have the habit of remembering that we do not know what anything means and asking for the Holy Spirit’s reinterpretation of our perceptions. When we accept His help to heal our misperceptions, we teach forgiveness. We demonstrate that peace can be accepted in the midst of turmoil. We teach that mistaken beliefs can be released and we clear a channel for God’s Love to flow through us by letting our misperceptions be transformed.

Our direct connection with God becomes clearer as we let the beliefs that stood as a barrier to Love be dispelled with the Holy Spirit’s clear vision. With this practice, we serve as teachers of God representing His Teacher in our mind to the world. We become Love’s assistant for It’s expression in the world.

Smiling with the Joy of God’s Love

I can attack but my own sinlessness, And it is only [my sinlessness] which keeps me safe.

Father, Your Son is holy. I am he on whom You smile in love and tenderness so dear and deep and still the universe smiles back on You, and shares Your Holiness. How pure, how safe, how holy, then, are we, abiding in Your Smile, with all Your Love bestowed upon us, living one with You, in brotherhood and Fatherhood complete; in sinlessness so perfect that the Lord of Sinlessness conceives us as His Son, a universe of Thought completing Him.

Let us not, then, attack our sinlessness [our true Identity], for it contains the Word of God to us. And in its kind reflection we are saved. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 341, W-pII.341. See also ACIM Lesson 341 Insights.)

A parent holding a baby naturally responds with a smile when the baby smiles. It is an expression of the joy that is experienced with shared Love. Likewise, our Creator experiences joy when we join with and share His Love. Our true Identity is eternally joined with our Creator in His Love. We remain at Home in His universe of Love.

We attack our unity in Love when we believe we are a separate self, limited to a body in a dream world where Love is denied. This attack leads to feelings of isolation, vulnerability and guilt, for we have denied God’s gift. We free ourselves by letting the Holy Spirit help us heal our mistaken beliefs that project a world of fear and hate.

Today our prayer is to ask the Holy Spirit to shine His Light of Love in our mind to help us forgive our fear-based thoughts. We want to see Love reflected in the world and smile once again with the joy of accepting God’s gift of Love.

We Are Not the Ego

I let forgiveness rest upon all things, For thus forgiveness will be given me.

I thank You, Father, for Your plan to save me from the hell I made. It is not real. And You have given me the means to prove its unreality to me. The key is in my hand, and I have reached the door beyond which lies the end of dreams. I stand before the gate of Heaven, wondering if I should enter in and be at home. Let me not wait again today. Let me forgive all things, and let creation be as You would have it be and as it is. Let me remember that I am Your Son, and opening the door at last, forget illusions in the blazing light of truth, as memory of You returns to me.

Brother, forgive me now. I come to you to take you home with me. And as we go, the world goes with us on our way to God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 342, W-pII.342. See also ACIM Lesson 342 Insights.)

Every brother presents an opportunity to forgive him and join with him to return Home to the Love of God. We need only forgive the image we have made of him. As we let it go, the truth of the Love he is, joined with our true Self, is revealed.

The daily practice of frequently pausing to relax and accept the peace within welcomes the Holy Spirit’s loving guidance. He leads us to the truth of our unity in Love with all that is real. This practice releases us from the hell we have made by our allegiance to the ego’s dedication to specialness and separation.

We are not the ego, never have been, never will be. We remain Love as Love created us. We choose Love as our Guide today for our thoughts, words and actions. With this practice, we bring Love’s blessing to the world.

We Are Blessed When We Give Love’s Blessing

All gifts my brothers give belong to me.

Each day a thousand treasures come to me with every passing moment. I am blessed with gifts throughout the day, in value far beyond all things of which I can conceive. A brother smiles upon another, and my heart is gladdened. Someone speaks a word of gratitude or mercy, and my mind receives this gift and takes it as its own. And everyone who finds the way to God becomes my savior, pointing out the way to me, and giving me his certainty that what he learned is surely mine as well.

I thank You, Father, for the many gifts that come to me today and every day from every Son of God. My brothers are unlimited in all their gifts to me. Now may I offer them my thankfulness, that gratitude to them may lead me on to my Creator and His memory. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 315, W-pII.315. See also ACIM Lesson 315 Insights.)

The only real gift anyone can give is Love. Because we are all united in the oneness of Love, we are blessed by every loving thought the Son of God extends.

The ego feeds on the proliferation of hate, guilt and fear. Our true Self, the Son of God, thrives on expressions of Love in the world. Each loving thought, each word and action by a brother inspired by Love reminds us of the Love we are. It reminds us of our unity and innocence. It brings peace to the part of our mind that has identified with the ego and leads us toward freedom to be the Love we were created to be.
