Letting Our Love-Light Shine

I can be hurt by nothing but my thoughts.

Father, Your Son is perfect. ²When I think that I am hurt in any way, it is because I have forgotten who I am, and that I am as You created me. ³Your Thoughts can only bring me happiness. ⁴If ever I am sad or hurt or ill, I have forgotten what You think, and put my little meaningless ideas in place of where Your Thoughts belong, and where they are. ⁵I can be hurt by nothing but my thoughts. ⁶The Thoughts I think with You can only bless. ⁷The Thoughts I think with You alone are true.

I will not hurt myself today. ²For I am far beyond all pain. ³My Father placed me safe in Heaven, watching over me. ⁴And I would not attack the Son He loves, for what He loves is also mine to love. (A Course in Miracles, W-281. See also ACIM Lesson 281 Insights.)

Thinking we are a body is a meaningless thought because it is identifying with an illusion. Though it is a meaningless thought, it is not without effect. This thought denies our true Identity, God’s Creation as an extension of His Love. The thought of misidentification with the body is the basis for all fear, sadness, pain and suffering. This need not be.

We can accept our true Identity as God’s Son. We do this by letting go of our mistaken thoughts. We have the Holy Spirit in our mind to help us learn to recognize our mistaken thoughts for what they are. With His help, we learn they are not true and let them go.

As we lay aside the beliefs that we are separate and alone, we become increasingly aware of the Love we are. We recognize that we are eternally safe in God’s Love. We see that our brothers are also safe in His Love. Fear subsides and the Light of Love shines forth. We experience increasing peace of mind as we let go of fear-based thoughts. We accept our Reality as one with God in His Love.

Letting Go of Our Fictional Identity

I gladly make the “sacrifice” of fear.

Here is the only “sacrifice” You ask of Your beloved Son; You ask him to give up all suffering, all sense of loss and sadness, all anxiety and doubt, and freely let Your Love come streaming in to his awareness, healing him of pain, and giving him Your Own eternal joy. ²Such is the “sacrifice” You ask of me, and one I gladly make; the only “cost” of restoration of Your memory to me, for the salvation of the world.

And as we pay the debt we owe to truth,—a debt that merely is the letting go of self-deceptions and of images we worshipped falsely—truth returns to us in wholeness and in joy. ²We are deceived no longer. ³Love has now returned to our awareness. ⁴And we are at peace again, for fear has gone and only love remains. We have become so identified with a body and a personality that it does seem that we are being asked to sacrifice our identity. Yet this identity we believe in is not real. It is a made up fiction, a story we tell ourselves is meaningful. Yet illusions have no meaning. When we believe in them, we sacrifice awareness of Reality.

Our fictional identity stands as a veil that makes us unaware of the joy and peace of our true Self. We are willing to let this identity go.  and we bring blessing to the world. Fear is gone and we experience the happy union with our Father, which has never ended.

Being Vigilant for Love

²Everything you see is the result of your thoughts. ³There is no exception to this fact. ⁴Thoughts are not big or little; powerful or weak. ⁵They are merely true or false. ⁶Those that are true create their own likeness. ⁷Those that are false make theirs.

There is no more self-contradictory concept than that of “idle thoughts.” ²What gives rise to the perception of a whole world can hardly be called idle. ³Every thought you have contributes to truth or to illusion; either it extends the truth or it multiplies illusions. ⁴You can indeed multiply nothing, but you will not extend it by doing so.

Besides your recognizing that thoughts are never idle, salvation requires that you also recognize that every thought you have brings either peace or war; either love or fear. ²A neutral result is impossible because a neutral thought is impossible. ³There is such a temptation to dismiss fear thoughts as unimportant, trivial and not worth bothering about that it is essential you recognize them all as equally destructive, but equally unreal. ⁴We will practice this idea in many forms before you really understand it. All thoughts have an effect. What we want directs our thoughts. We perceive what we want to perceive. If we want specialness, we will see forms that separate and make distinctions. There are no distinctions in the oneness of Love. When we identify with Love, our thoughts extend Love. The extension of Love is our real Life.

Because of the effects our thoughts have, it is important that we be mindful of them. Our true Self has one need, and that is to extend Love. This extension is what brings us happiness and peace.

Any thoughts that seek specialness and differences reflect a wish to be unique or different. These thoughts do nothing more than make illusions. But these illusions foster fear and hide the joyous presence of Love in which we live. The practice of being vigilant for Love dispels the fear that comes with wishing to be different or special.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us release our fear-based thoughts of separation and awaken to Love.

Remembering Our Unity with God

I walk with God in perfect holiness.

Today’s idea but states the simple truth that makes the thought of sin impossible. ²It promises there is no cause for guilt, and being causeless it does not exist. ³It follows surely from the basic thought so often mentioned in the text; ideas leave not their source. ⁴If this be true, how can you be apart from God? ⁵How could you walk the world alone and separate from your Source?

⁴You cannot walk the world apart from God, because you could not be without Him. ⁵He is what your life is. ⁶Where you are He is. ⁷There is one life. ⁸That life you share with Him. ⁹Nothing can be apart from Him and live.

⁴In lightness and in laughter is sin gone, because its quaint absurdity is seen. ⁵It is a foolish thought, a silly dream, not frightening, ridiculous perhaps, but who would waste an instant in approach to God Himself for such a senseless whim?

Yet you have wasted many, many years on just this foolish thought. ²The past is gone, with all its fantasies. ³They keep you bound no longer. ⁴The approach to God is near. (A Course in Miracles, W-156.1;2:4-9;6:4–7:4. See also ACIM Lesson 156 Insights.)

Happiness is an attribute of Love. Because we were created one with God’s Love as Its extension, we are innately happy. Unhappiness comes when we believe we are separate from the Love that created us. In truth we are one Self, united in Love with our Creator.

The world we experience with a body is a dream based on the belief that we are separate. Lasting happiness is impossible in this dream. Occasionally substitutes for Love — forms of specialness — seem to satisfy. But they do not last, for illusions cannot be maintained for long.

Today we remember that we are Love. We accept the help of our inner Teacher to see the Love that is the reality of our brothers. With this vision, we see the Love we are. In this recognition, we find lasting happiness. We remember our unity with God.

Willingness to Follow Our Inner Teacher

³Salvation can be seen as nothing more than the escape from concepts.

The world can teach no images [concepts] of you unless you want to learn them. ²There will come a time when images have all gone by, and you will see you know not what you are. ³It is to this unsealed and open mind that truth returns, unhindered and unbound. ⁴Where concepts of the self have been laid by is truth revealed exactly as it is. ⁵When every concept has been raised to doubt and question, and been recognized as made on no assumptions that would stand the light, then is the truth left free to enter in its sanctuary, clean and free of guilt. ⁶There is no statement that the world is more afraid to hear than this:

⁷I do not know the thing I am, and therefore do not know what I am doing, where I am, or how to look upon the world or on myself.

⁸Yet in this learning is salvation born. ⁹And What you are will tell you of Itself. (T-31.V.14:3;17)

The certainty we give to believing that we are a body in a world of other bodies stands as a barrier that keeps us from knowing the truth of What we are. The ego is proud of what it has made. Its certainty is a bluff that hides the fact that the ego and all its concepts are illusions.

When we are willing to question what we believe we are, our mind begins to open to our true Identity. Our prayer today is, “Holy Spirit, I do not know what or who I am. Teach me to see as You see. I turn over all my perceptions to You for your loving replacement. I know that You will lead me Home to the joy of perfect Love. I am willing to follow.”

Seeing with the Mind of God in Us

God is in everything I see because God is in my mind.

The idea for today is the springboard for vision. ²From this idea will the world open up before you, and you will look upon it and see in it what you have never seen before. ³Nor will what you saw before be even faintly visible to you.

Today we are trying to use a new kind of “projection.” ²We are not attempting to get rid of what we do not like by seeing it outside. ³Instead, we are trying to see in the world what is in our minds, and what we want to recognize is there. ⁴Thus, we are trying to join with what we see, rather than keeping it apart from us. ⁵That is the fundamental difference between vision and the way you see.

Real vision is not only unlimited by space and distance, but it does not depend on the body’s eyes at all. ²The mind is its only source. (A Course in Miracles, W-30.1–2;5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 30 Insights.)

It is helpful to remember that real vision comes from the mind. It does not use the body’s eyes at all. This difference makes real vision the key to forgiveness. The body’s eyes deceive. They see only illusions. This way of seeing makes illusions seem real. This seeming reality makes illusions unforgivable.

But when we accept the vision that comes from God in our mind, illusions are overlooked. This vision sees only Reality. It sees the oneness of Love and joins with that Love in everyone, everything, everywhere.

When this vision is accepted wholly, forgiveness is natural. It sees that nothing has happened to change the Son of God. It sees the Love we are as complete and eternally united with our Creator. It acknowledges that God is in our mind. Today we are vigilant to recognize His Presence and know that we are Love.

We Honor God’s Son as Love

In this season (Christmas) which celebrates the birth of holiness into this world, join with me who decided for holiness for you.

Holy child of God, when will you learn that only holiness can content you and give you peace? ²Remember that you learn not for yourself alone, no more than I did. ³It is because I learned for you that you can learn of me. ⁴I would but teach you what is yours, so that together we can replace the shabby littleness that binds the host of God to guilt and weakness with the glad awareness of the glory that is in him. ⁵My birth in you is your awakening to grandeur. ⁶Welcome me not into a manger, but into the altar to holiness, where holiness abides in perfect peace. ⁷My Kingdom is not of this world because it is in you. ⁸And you are of your Father. ⁹Let us join in honoring you, who must remain forever beyond littleness.

Call forth in everyone only the remembrance of God, and of the Heaven that is in him. ²For where you would have your brother be, there will you think you are. (A Course in Miracles, T-15.III.7:1;9;12:1-2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

As God’s extension, we all carry His Love in us. His Love unites us with Himself and every brother. Through forgiveness of our dreams of separation and littleness, we awaken to the Christ within. Christ is born again as we remember we are Love and nothing else. In this remembrance we recognize our unity with every brother.

We are truly not different. All that is real in each of us dwells in the Heaven of God’s Love. We would be messengers of Love today. Thus we honor God’s Son.
