Moving from Chaos to Peace of Mind

Father, I come to You today to seek the peace that You alone can give. ²I come in silence. ³In the quiet of my heart, the deep recesses of my mind, I wait and listen for Your Voice. ⁴My Father, speak to me today. ⁵I come to hear Your Voice in silence and in certainty and love, sure You will hear my call and answer me.

Now do we wait in quiet. ²God is here, because we wait together. ³I am sure that He will speak to you, and you will hear. ⁴Accept my confidence, for it is yours. ⁵Our minds are joined. ⁶We wait with one intent; to hear our Father’s answer to our call, to let our thoughts be still and find His peace, to hear Him speak to us of what we are, and to reveal Himself unto His Son. Chaos is the ego’s safe place. It keeps our mind cluttered with its meaningless thoughts in an attempt to keep us from pausing to quiet our mind. The ego is afraid of a quiet mind, because in stillness the mind is open to hear the Voice of God.

Today is a good day to practice pausing in the midst of chaos to welcome the peace of God into our mind. In peace we hear His Voice speak to us of the changeless Love that is the Identity we share with Him and everyone. And Christ’s vision will show us the innocence that is the truth in everyone. Chaos will fade into the nothingness from which it came, and we will know we are safe in our Father’s Love.

Love Is Everyone’s True Identity

Love created me like itself.

Today’s idea is a complete and accurate statement of what you are. ²This is why you are the light of the world. ³This is why God appointed you as the world’s savior. ⁴This is why the Son of God looks to you for his salvation. ⁵He is saved by what you are. ⁶We will make every effort today to reach this truth about you, and to realize fully, if only for a moment, that it is the truth.

…think about your reality and its wholly unchanged and unchangeable nature.

³Holiness created me holy.
⁴Kindness created me kind.
⁵Helpfulness created me helpful.
⁶Perfection created me perfect.

⁷Any attribute which is in accord with God as He defines Himself is appropriate for use. ⁸We are trying today to undo your definition of God and replace it with His Own. ⁹We are also trying to emphasize that you are part of His definition of Himself.

²You need to hear the truth about yourself as frequently as possible, because your mind is so preoccupied with false self-images. …remind yourself that love created you like itself. (A Course in Miracles, W-67.1;2:1,3-9;5:2-3. See also ACIM Lesson 67 Insights.)

The ego defines God in its own image — judgmental and vindictive. It tells us that if we are not careful, God will condemn us to hell. But it is the ego that condemns.

God is only Love, nothing else, and Love does not condemn. Being all that is real, Love sees Itself everywhere. It is eternally united with the Love that is our true Self.

Love shares all of Its attributes with all. Because we were created by Love, we share all of Its attributes. Today we claim all of Love’s attributes as our own, and we see these qualities as the true nature of everyone we meet or think of, because only Love is real.

Gratitude for Our Safety in Love

You who were created by love like itself can hold no grievances and know your Self. ²To hold a grievance is to forget who you are. ³To hold a grievance is to see yourself as a body. ⁴To hold a grievance is to let the ego rule your mind and to condemn the body to death. ⁵Perhaps you do not yet fully realize just what holding grievances does to your mind. ⁶It seems to split you off from your Source and make you unlike Him. ⁷It makes you believe that He is like what you think you have become, for no one can conceive of his Creator as unlike himself.

…he who holds grievances denies he was created by love, and his Creator has become fearful to him in his dream of hate. ⁵Who can dream of hatred and not fear God?

²It is as sure that those who hold grievances will suffer guilt, as it is certain that those who forgive will find peace. ³It is as sure that those who hold grievances will forget who they are, as it is certain that those who forgive will remember.

…think of yourself as completely at peace with everyone and everything, safe in a world that protects you and loves you, and that you love in return. ⁵Try to feel safety surrounding you, hovering over you and holding you up. ⁶Try to believe, however briefly, that nothing can harm you in any way. In the world, everything is defined by differences, which sets everything apart from the whole. This is a manifestation of the ego’s grievance against the oneness of God’s Love where there are no differences. These perceived differences conflict with each other, making this world seem unsafe.

In God’s Love, conflict is impossible. All is eternally safe in Love’s changelessness. Let us pause frequently today to feel the peace of our Father’s loving embrace. His Love surrounds us and supports us. Our Father knows us as His Son, protecting us as part of Himself. We are grateful for our safety in the Home He created for us.

Accepting Our Real Thoughts of Love

²I have judged everything I look upon, and it is this and only this I see. ³This is not vision. ⁴It is merely an illusion of reality, because my judgments have been made quite apart from reality. ⁵I am willing to recognize the lack of validity in my judgments, because I want to see. ⁶My judgments have hurt me, and I do not want to see according to them.

³What I see is the projection of my own errors of thought.

³What I call “my” thoughts are not my real thoughts. ⁴My real thoughts are the thoughts I think with God. ⁵I am not aware of them because I have made my thoughts to take their place. ⁶I am willing to recognize that my thoughts do not mean anything, and to let them go. ⁷I choose to have them be replaced by what they were intended to replace. ⁸My thoughts are meaningless, but all creation lies in the thoughts I think with God. The ego wants us to believe everything the body’s eyes see. That is because the body and all its senses are mechanisms made by the ego to keep us mired in the dream that denies the reality of God’s Love. These senses perceive only images of separation projected by the ego mind as targets of our guilt for choosing against Love’s oneness.

It is important to recognize that our thoughts about an outside world are meaningless. Our real thoughts are extensions of our Father’s Love. These thoughts acknowledge the truth in everyone which unites us as God’s one Son, eternally Love and loving.

Celebrating Our Life in God

God is with me. I live and move in Him.

God is with me. ²He is my Source of life, the life within, the air I breathe, the food by which I am sustained, the water which renews and cleanses me. ³He is my home, wherein I live and move; the Spirit which directs my actions, offers me Its Thoughts, and guarantees my safety from all pain. ⁴He covers me with kindness and with care, and holds in love the Son He shines upon, who also shines on Him. ⁵How still is he who knows the truth of what He speaks today!

Father, we have no words except Your Name upon our lips and in our minds, as we come quietly into Your Presence now, and ask to rest with You in peace a while. (A Course in Miracles, W-222. See also ACIM Lesson 222 Insights.)

We pause today to calm our mind and come quietly into the Presence of our Father. In His Presence we remember His gifts of all His Love, His peace and joy.

We are grateful to return Home to receive our Father’s welcoming embrace as we let go of our errant thoughts which denied our Identity as His Son. In stillness, we celebrate the Life we live in Him.

Turning Grievances into Lessons in Love

Perhaps it is not yet quite clear to you that each decision that you make is one between a grievance and a miracle. ²Each grievance stands like a dark shield of hate before the miracle it would conceal. ³And as you raise it up before your eyes, you will not see the miracle beyond. ⁴Yet all the while it waits for you in light, but you behold your grievances instead.

Today we go beyond the grievances, to look upon the miracle instead.

…select one person you have used as target for your grievances, and lay the grievances aside and look at him.

Then let us ask of Him Who knows this Son of God in his reality and truth, that we may look on him a different way, and see our savior shining in the light of true forgiveness, given unto us. ²We ask Him in the holy Name of God and of His Son, as holy as Himself:

³Let me behold my savior in this one You have appointed as the one for me to ask to lead me to the holy light in which he stands, that I may join with him.

⁴The body’s eyes are closed, and as you think of him who grieved you, let your mind be shown the light in him beyond your grievances.

God thanks you for these quiet times today in which you laid your images aside, and looked upon the miracle of love the Holy Spirit showed you in their place. (A Course in Miracles, W-78.1:1–2:1;4:4;7;9:1. See also ACIM Lesson 78 Insights.)

The choice to see different forms is a grievance against God’s Love. His Love is one, wholly without differences. This is why He could not grant the insane wish for specialness. While we choose to see differences, His Love remains hidden behind a shield of grievances.

But everyone we meet or think of has within him the Love that sets us free. Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us set us set aside our perceptions to see the holy Light that is the truth in him. With this practice we turn our grievances into lessons in Love.

Following the Guide to Perfect Happiness

The ego’s plan for salvation centers around holding grievances. ²It maintains that, if someone else spoke or acted differently, if some external circumstance or event were changed, you would be saved. ³Thus, the source of salvation is constantly perceived as outside yourself. ⁴Each grievance you hold is a declaration, and an assertion in which you believe, that says, “If this were different, I would be saved.” ⁵The change of mind necessary for salvation is thus demanded of everyone and everything except yourself.

God’s plan for salvation works simply because, by following His direction, you seek for salvation where it is. ²But if you are to succeed, as God promises you will, you must be willing to seek there only.

²Ask Him very specifically:

³What would You have me do?
⁴Where would You have me go?
⁵What would You have me say, and to whom?

⁶Give Him full charge …and let Him tell you what needs to be done by you in His plan for your salvation. ⁷He will answer in proportion to your willingness to hear His Voice. ⁸Refuse not to hear. (A Course in Miracles, W-71.2;5:1-2;9:1-8. See also ACIM Lesson 71 Insights.)

The ego denies the only Source of true happiness. So it looks to external sources to find what it believes will bring happiness — the circumstances, relationships and events that will meet its demands.

God’s Will for us is perfect happiness. Thus His plan for us provides a Guide Who will direct us where to go, what to do and what to say to whom. We will experience happiness beyond anything the world has to offer when we follow His Guide in all or doing.
