Joining with Holy Spirit’s Undivided Goal

The mind that serves the Holy Spirit is unlimited forever, in all ways, beyond the laws of time and space, unbound by any preconceptions, and with strength and power to do whatever it is asked. Attack thoughts cannot enter such a mind, because it has been given to the Source of love, and fear can never enter in a mind that has attached itself to love. It rests in God. And who can be afraid who lives in Innocence, and only loves?

The Holy Spirit is the home of minds that seek for freedom. In Him they have found what they have sought. The body’s purpose now is unambiguous. And it becomes perfect in the ability to serve an undivided goal.

I am not a body. I am free.
I hear the Voice that God has given me,
and it is only this my mind obeys.
(A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 199, W-pI.199.2;6:1-4;8:7-9. See also ACIM Lesson 199 Insights.)

The ego’s goal could be said to be “divide and conquer.” Yet it conquers only in dreams, for Love cannot be divided. The way out of the chaos and conflict of the dream of separation is to change our allegiance from the ego to the Holy Spirit.

We do this through forgiveness — letting go of the wish to separate. The wish to separate manifests as judgment, fear and guilt. The focal point of all this is the body. For the body is a wall that appears to separate the Self into many warring parts.

The practice of reminding ourselves frequently, “I am not a body, I am free,” loosens our investment in the wall that appears to separate us. As we align ourselves with the Holy Spirit, our inner vision shows us that we are united with all our brothers in the one Self That is wholly loving.

Today we would remind ourselves often, “I am not a body. I am free.”

Forgiveness Is the Way Home

You cannot give yourself your innocence, for you are too confused about yourself. But should one brother dawn upon your sight as wholly worthy of forgiveness, then your concept of yourself is wholly changed. Your “evil” thoughts have been forgiven with his, because you let them all affect you not. No longer do you choose that you should be the sign of evil and of guilt in him. And as you gave your trust to what is good in him, you gave it to the good in you.

In terms of concepts, it is thus you see him more than just a body, for the good is never what the body seems to be. The actions of the body are perceived as coming from the “baser” part of you, and thus of him as well. By focusing upon the good in him, the body grows decreasingly persistent in your sight, and will at length be seen as little more than just a shadow circling round the good. And this will be your concept of yourself, when you have reached the world beyond the sight your eyes alone can offer you to see. For you will not interpret what you see without the Aid That God has given you. And in His sight there is another world.”

And all this shift requires is that you be willing that this happy change occur. (A Course in Miracles, T-31.VII.2:4-3:6;5:3. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

Forgiveness brings us vision that shows us the way to our Home in Love. We cannot see the innocence of our brother while we insist in seeing him as a body. The actions of bodies always demonstrate the belief that separation is real.

Seeing a brother as separate is an attack on his reality and his innocence. It is a denial of the truth. As we choose to accept the Holy Spirit’s vision, the appearances of bodies lose their seeming importance. We learn to recognize that what bodies do has no effect because bodies are not real. What the body’s eyes seem to see diminishes in our awareness as we forgive and let the Holy Spirit’s vision take its place.

The moment by moment practice of accepting Holy Spirit’s vision as our own is the journey of release from fear and guilt. It is the way Home.

Practicing the Truth That Sets Us Free

[I am as God created me.] Holy indeed is he who makes these words his own; arising with them in his mind, recalling them throughout the day, at night bringing them with him as he goes to sleep. His dreams are happy and his rest secure, his safety certain and his body healed, because he sleeps and wakens with the truth before him always. He will save the world, because he gives the world what he receives each time he practices the words of truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 162, W-pI.162.3. See also ACIM Lesson 162 Insights.)

Being as God created us, we must be wholly loving, invulnerable and incapable of harming anything or anyone. These are the attributes of the one Self we share with everyone, the one Self that lives and has its being in God.

It seems that we are anything but this description of our Self. This is because we have identified with a false image that is the denial of Truth. Frequent repeating of this idea helps loosen our identification with the false. We have reinforced heavily the false belief. So we need frequent, consistent reinforcement of the truth that we are as God created us. This is how we undo the false belief and welcome the truth that we are Love, we are safe and we are harmless because we are as God created us.

Today we practice reminding ourselves of this saving Truth as we look upon a world which seems to show us its opposite. This is how we bring the Truth to dispel the illusion. This is how we return Home.

Seeing Our One Self in Our Brother

For this alone I need; that you will hear the words I speak, and give them to the world. You are my voice, my eyes, my feet, my hands through which I save the world. The Self from which I call to you is but your own. To Him we go together. Take your brother’s hand, for this is not a way we walk alone. In him I walk with you, and you with me. Our Father wills His Son be one with Him. What lives but must not then be one with you? (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 171, W-pI.V.9:2-9. See also ACIM Lesson 171 Insights.)

If we would be the expression of our true Self in the world, we must see with the vision of our true Self, speak as It would speak and act as It would act. Since our true Self is only Love, we must let Love guide us in all things.

Our practice must be to look past behavior without judgment to see the Love and the calls for Love. If we perceive another as angry or guilty or frightening, we need to recognize the call for Love it represents. With that recognition, Love answers. As we let Love answer through us, our own calls for Love are answered.

When we serve as the voice and hands and feet of our true Self, we heal and are healed. We see the truth in our brother and recognize it as the reflection of the truth in us. The brother who seemed to be apart from us is seen as one with us. In this joining, we reach the gate of Heaven and are welcomed Home.

We Are One in God

God goes with me wherever I go. How can I be alone when God always goes with me? How can I be doubtful and unsure of myself when perfect certainty abides in Him? How can I be disturbed by anything when He rests in me in absolute peace? How can I suffer when love and joy surround me through Him? Let me not cherish illusions about myself. I am perfect because God goes with me wherever I go. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 59, W-pI.59.1. See also ACIM Lesson 59 Insights.)

Today we practice stepping back and opening to Holy Spirit’s perfect peace… Today we practice opening our minds to Holy Spirit’s thoughts… We practice opening to Holy Spirit’s way of seeing the world… We open to Holy Spirit’s inspiration in how to be truly helpful in every situation…

We relax… and allow ourselves to be carried by Holy Spirit’s inspiration… We practice letting go and letting God… We remember that on our own we do not know what anything means… We give time to be quiet and listen… We allow ourselves to feel Holy Spirit’s peace… gentleness… and patience… We allow ourselves to see the innate innocence in everyone… We allow ourselves to remember Love’s all inclusive Oneness… And we give thanks.

Learning to See Only Innocence

All you need do to dwell in quiet here with Christ is share His vision. Quickly and gladly is His vision given to anyone who is but willing to see his brother sinless. And no one can remain beyond this willingness, if you would be released entirely from all effects of sin. Would you have partial forgiveness for yourself? Can you reach Heaven while a single sin still tempts you to remain in misery? Heaven is the home of perfect purity, and God created it for you. Look at your holy brother, sinless as yourself, and let him lead you [to Heaven]. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.II.13. See also ACIM Text Q & A.)

It is impossible to judge anyone and share Christ’s vision. Judgment is the ego’s mechanism for making separation seem real. Christ’s vision sees only innocence, which automatically leads to union. It is the means to heal the separation and return to the unity and joy of Heaven.

Christ’s vision makes no exceptions. It sees innocence and nothing else. To join in the healing of the world, our function must be to let go of judgment and welcome Christ’s vision. There can be no exceptions if we would heal. No seeming adversary or threat to our happiness can be excluded from Christ’s vision if we would be healed.

Sometimes this seems like a tall order. But we have Help. We need only offer our willingness to receive a healed perception. The Holy Spirit will strengthen our willingness to help us release the false image that seems to threaten and divide us from our brothers.

Today we practice bringing all our thoughts to the Holy Spirit for purification with Christ’s vision. Thus will we be healed and extend healing.

Remembering God’s Will Is Ours

Father, we do not know the way to You. But we have called, and You have answered us. We will not interfere. Salvation’s ways are not our own, for they belong to You. And it is unto You we look for them. Our hands are open to receive Your gifts. We have no thoughts we think apart from You, and cherish no beliefs of what we are, or Who created us. Yours is the way that we would find and follow. And we ask but that Your Will, which is our own as well, be done in us and in the world, that it become a part of Heaven now. Amen. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 189, W-pI.189.10. See also ACIM Lesson 189 Insights.)

The ego’s most cherished belief is that it has its own will, different from God’s and from everyone else. The consequence of this belief is that it must constantly defend against opposing wills. And most important of all, it must defend against God’s Will. Its identity depends upon it.

Because God’s Will for us is perfect happiness, the ego’s “will” is to be unhappy, to deny God’s Will. It seems insane that we would choose to identify with a will that guarantees unhappiness. Yet that is what we do when we claim the ego as our identity.

Thankfully we are not lost in this insanity. God’s Will for us remains unchanged. And because His Will is for our happiness, He has given us the means to remember that our real Will is the same as His. We share God’s Love, His peace and His joy. As we accept this, we are able to see past the images produced by the wish to have a will different from God’s. God’s Will no longer frightens us. We no longer feel we will lose something of value if we accept His Will. We begin to recognize that all we ever really want is to remember that God’s Love is ours and accept His gift of perfect happiness.

Today we open our hearts and minds to God’s gift of His Love that we may share It with all.
