Accepting a New Perception of the World

Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross, to leave this world behind. But peace begins within the world perceived as different, and leading from this fresh perception to the gate of Heaven and the way beyond. Peace is the answer to conflicting goals, to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. Now the way is easy, sloping gently toward the bridge where freedom lies within the peace of God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 200, W-pI.200.8. See also ACIM Lesson 200 Insights.)

The only way to release ourselves from the hell of this world is through changing our perception of the world. We cannot escape the dream of fear and guilt by doing anything with or to the body. A dream image (the body) can only seem to function within the dream. Thus doing anything with the body is just a continuation of the dream, sometimes seeming to be in a different form.

Everything we perceive in the world is a projection of what we believe. We change our perception of the world by changing our belief. Beliefs are how we bring the past to the present. Forgiveness is the means by which we change our beliefs. Through forgiveness, we let go of the past. Our beliefs change and we perceive the world differently.

To forgive the past we believe in, we need help from One Who does not believe in the dream — the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the bridge between the oneness of our Creator and our mistaken beliefs in separation. He can see what we believe, but does not believe in them. Thus the Holy Spirit can guide us to recognize the dream as unreal — just a projection that is coming from our own mind.

When we are willing to open our minds and hearts to the Holy Spirit’s vision, we perceive the world differently. We see that what is not an extension of Love is just a call for Love, nothing more. A call for Love is harmless and offers us an opportunity to bless by answering the call with Love. When we answer with Love, we bless and experience Love’s blessing. As we learn to recognize every call for Love and answer with Love, we receive the peace of God and we cross the bridge to Heaven.
