Accepting the Miracle of True Perception

A miracle is a correction. ²It does not create, nor really change at all. ³It merely looks on devastation, and reminds the mind that what it sees is false. ⁴It undoes error, but does not attempt to go beyond perception, nor exceed the function of forgiveness. ⁵Thus it stays within time’s limits. ⁶Yet it paves the way for the return of timelessness and love’s awakening, for fear must slip away under the gentle remedy it brings.

³A miracle inverts perception which was upside down before, and thus it ends the strange distortions that were manifest. ⁴Now is perception open to the truth. ⁵Now is forgiveness seen as justified.

Forgiveness is the home of miracles. ²The eyes of Christ deliver them to all they look upon in mercy and in love. ³Perception stands corrected in His sight, and what was meant to curse has come to bless. ⁴Each lily of forgiveness offers all the world the silent miracle of love. ⁵And each is laid before the Word of God, upon the universal altar to Creator and creation in the light of perfect purity and endless joy. (A Course in Miracles, W-pII.13.1;2:3–3:5)

This world of separate bodies we see is not real. As long as we identify with the body, this fact is hard to believe. The world around us seems to affect everything in our life — our health, our happiness, and our safety. All this comes from the wish to experience specialness.

A miracle occurs when we look past the appearance of differences, which divide, to the underlying Love of God that unites us with Reality. To let this change of perception occur, we need to accept the help of the Holy Spirit to forgive our misperceptions. We need to resign as judge and let Him judge all things on our behalf. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s judgment, we will see the world with forgiving eyes and experience the miracle of true perception.
