Welcoming the Self That Lives in Love

When you are still an instant, when the world recedes from you, when valueless ideas cease to have value in your restless mind, then will you hear His Voice.

Take time today to lay aside your shield which profits nothing, and lay down the spear and sword you raised against an enemy without existence. ²Christ has called you friend and brother.

You have not lost your innocence. ²It is for this you yearn. ³This is your heart’s desire. ⁴This is the voice you hear, and this the call which cannot be denied.…⁸And now the way is open, and the journey has an end in sight at last. ⁹Be still an instant and go home with Him, and be at peace a while. The value we have given to specialness has led to a dream of separation, isolation and a sense of loss that results in yearning to return to the place where we are at Home. This return will happen when we lay aside the value we have given specialness.

Christ remains with us in our hearts, forever joined with our true Self. Today we are willing to set aside the value we have given to illusions and welcome this Self that dwells eternally at Home in the Love of God.

Becoming Love’s Messenger

Why wait for Heaven? ²Those who seek the light are merely covering their eyes. ³The light is in them now. ⁴Enlightenment is but a recognition, not a change at all. ⁵Light is not of the world, yet you who bear the light in you are alien here as well. ⁶The light came with you from your native home, and stayed with you because it is your own. ⁷It is the only thing you bring with you from Him Who is your Source. ⁸It shines in you because it lights your home, and leads you back to where it came from and you are at home.

⁵It is not difficult to look within, for there all vision starts. ⁶There is no sight, be it of dreams or from a truer Source, that is not but the shadow of the seen through inward vision. ⁷There perception starts, and there it ends. ⁸It has no source but this.

The peace of God is shining in you now, and from your heart extends around the world. ²It pauses to caress each living thing, and leaves a blessing with it that remains forever and forever. (A Course in Miracles, W-188.1;2:5–3:2. See also ACIM Lesson 188 Insights.)

The Light of Love is our true Self. It is forever joyous and at peace. It goes with us wherever we go because It is everything that is real. Whether we are aware of It or not, the Light of Love in us continuously blesses the world with kindness and peace.

We call upon this Light within each time we accept It’s offering of peace. In that peace we welcome the Holy Spirit’s interpretation of all our perceptions. As we accept the Light within, we become Love’s messengers in the world. We forgive the world for all we thought it was.

Forgiveness Returns Us to Our True Self

It is your Father’s holy Will that you complete Himself, and that your Self shall be His sacred Son, forever pure as He, of love created and in love preserved, extending love, creating in its name, forever one with God and with your Self.

³Forgiveness represents your function here.

…God created One Who has the power to translate in form the wholly formless. ⁶What He makes are dreams, but of a kind so close to waking that the light of day already shines in them, and eyes already opening behold the joyful sights their offerings contain.

Forgiveness gently looks upon all things unknown in Heaven, sees them disappear, and leaves the world a clean and unmarked slate on which the Word of God can now replace the senseless symbols written there before. ²Forgiveness is the means by which the fear of death is overcome, because it holds no fierce attraction now and guilt is gone. ³Forgiveness lets the body be perceived as what it is; a simple teaching aid, to be laid by when learning is complete, but hardly changing him who learns at all. This lesson begins with a clear statement about the Self we were created to be. If we had not convinced ourselves that we successfully separated from the oneness of God’s Love, there were would be no need for forgiveness. But it is needed in the dream we think is real.

Forgiveness is the way to release our mistaken beliefs that are the cause of our dream of separation. We cannot use our own thinking to forgive. Our engagement with the ego keeps us locked within its thought system.

We must open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. With His help, we will learn to recognize the ego’s false images as illusions and meaningless. With this recognition the illusions are dispelled and the truth is returned to our mind. Forgiveness dispels the ego’s barriers to Love’s presence and we awaken to the Self God created as His Son.

Learning to Change Our Mind About the World

²There is no world! ³This is the central thought the course attempts to teach.

But healing is the gift of those who are prepared to learn there is no world, and can accept the lesson now. ²Their readiness will bring the lesson to them in some form which they can understand and recognize.

²You are as God created you. ³There is no place where you can suffer, and no time that can bring change to your eternal state. ⁴How can a world of time and place exist, if you remain as God created you?

What is the lesson for today except another way of saying that to know your Self is the salvation of the world? ²To free the world from every kind of pain is but to change your mind about yourself. ³There is no world apart from your ideas because ideas leave not their source, and you maintain the world within your mind in thought. This world we experience with the body is not real. It does not exist in truth. What we experience is the effect of our beliefs. We have all experienced changing our beliefs in our lives. Something occurred, a word or sentence was given us or an experience led us to recognize that our belief was mistaken. We changed our belief and our perception of the world changed. This demonstrates that our world is the effect of the thoughts we hold in our mind.

The Course is guiding us to learn a new way of perceiving the world. We have been given a Teacher Whose mission is to guide us to the truth. He will help us use our ability to change our mind about the world. He has a lesson plan carefully prepared to help us learn to let go of our specific self-imposed limitations. As we accept His lessons, we experience increasing peace of mind and recognize the presence of Love in which we live.

Today we practice opening our mind to the Holy Spirit’s lessons. By pausing frequently to let our mind return to peace, this is how we welcome His lessons and continue remembering our true Self, which remains eternally at one with God.

Remembering God’s Love and Strength Are Ours

I am spirit.

²I am the Son of God. ³No body can contain my spirit, nor impose on me a limitation God created not.

I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation.

²What can my function be but to accept the Word of God, Who has created me for what I am and will forever be? (A Course in Miracles, W-114.1–2. See also ACIM Lesson 114 Insights.)

As God’s Son, our function is to be the Love that created us. Love is indivisible and unlimited. Our function within the dream is to let go of the beliefs that limit our awareness of the Love we are.

We need the help of the Holy Spirit to do this. He will help us see past our limited seeing to recognize the presence of Love in which we live. The Holy Spirit knows we share God’s Love and strength.

We need only be willing to accept His guidance all through the day. With His help we will see past the limitations imposed by our beliefs. We will recognize the opportunities to extend Love where it is needed and we will also see the Love that is in everyone and in everything. This is what God intended for His Son when He created His Son one with Himself.

Finding the Peace of God Within

There is no peace except the peace of God, because He has one Son who cannot make a world in opposition to God’s Will and to his own, which is the same as His. ²What could he hope to find in such a world? ³It cannot have reality, because it never was created. ⁴Is it here that he would seek for peace? ⁵Or must he see that, as he looks on it, the world can but deceive? ⁶Yet can he learn to look on it another way, and find the peace of God.

Peace is the bridge that everyone will cross, to leave this world behind. ²But peace begins within the world perceived as different, and leading from this fresh perception to the gate of Heaven and the way beyond. ³Peace is the answer to conflicting goals, to senseless journeys, frantic, vain pursuits, and meaningless endeavors. ⁴Now the way is easy, sloping gently toward the bridge where freedom lies within the peace of God.

⁶For peace is union, if it be of God. ⁷We seek no further. ⁸We are close to home, and draw still nearer every time we say:

⁹There is no peace except the peace of God, and I am glad and thankful it is so. (A Course in Miracles, W-200.7:1–8:4;11:6-9. See also ACIM Lesson 200 Insights.)

Conflict is inevitable when differences are valued. The ego is the idea that differences are valuable. The wish for specialness has led to a dream of conflict. Only when we are willing to accept the reality of Love’s oneness will we experience the peace of God.

Yet peace is the opening from this world of conflict that can lead us to the end of the dream. We ask for peace today. We call upon the Holy Spirit to help us change our perceptions to the recognition of God’s Love everywhere, always. It is our heart’s desire to cross the bridge from the world of conflict to the peace of God’s Love.

Accepting the Oneness of Love

²Perhaps you think there is a kind of love for this, a kind for that; a way of loving one, another way of loving still another. ³Love is one. ⁴It has no separate parts and no degrees; no kinds nor levels, no divergencies and no distinctions. ⁵It is like itself, unchanged throughout. ⁶It never alters with a person or a circumstance. ⁷It is the Heart of God, and also of His Son.

Love’s meaning is obscure to anyone who thinks that love can change. ²He does not see that changing love must be impossible. ³And thus he thinks that he can love at times, and hate at other times. ⁴He also thinks that love can be bestowed on one, and yet remain itself although it is withheld from others. ⁵To believe these things of love is not to understand it. ⁶If it could make such distinctions, it would have to judge between the righteous and the sinner, and perceive the Son of God in separate parts.

Love cannot judge. ²As it is one itself, it looks on all as one. ³Its meaning lies in oneness. ⁴And it must elude the mind that thinks of it as partial or in part. ⁵There is no love but God’s, and all of love is His. ⁶There is no other principle that rules where love is not. ⁷Love is a law without an opposite. ⁸Its wholeness is the power holding everything as one, the link between the Father and the Son which holds Them both forever as the same.

Call to your Father, certain that His Voice will answer. ²He Himself has promised this. ³And He Himself will place a spark of truth within your mind wherever you give up a false belief, a dark illusion of your own reality and what love means. ⁴He will shine through your idle thoughts today, and help you understand the truth of love. ⁵In loving gentleness He will abide with you, as you allow His Voice to teach love’s meaning to your clean and open mind. ⁶And He will bless the lesson with His Love. Love is one and indivisible. Recognition of this fact is the antidote to all the ego’s insanity of fear and guilt. We have one Source given equally to all. Our Father calls to us to return to Him to receive His blessing.

We need but call to Him. His Voice will guide us to the recognition that we remain Love, unchanged and unchangeable. We are assured that His Voice will answer. We only need to be willing to listen and follow His lead to know our Father’s blessing is eternal.
