Our True Self Lights the World with Love

²The purpose of the world you see is to obscure your function of forgiveness, and provide you with a justification for forgetting it.

Nothing the body’s eyes seem to see can be anything but a form of temptation, since this was the purpose of the body itself. ²Yet we have learned that the Holy Spirit has another use for all the illusions you have made, and therefore He sees another purpose in them. ³To the Holy Spirit, the world is a place where you learn to forgive yourself what you think of as your sins. ⁴In this perception, the physical appearance of temptation becomes the spiritual recognition of salvation.

…your function here is to be the light of the world, a function given you by God. …³The world’s salvation awaits your forgiveness, because through it does the Son of God escape from all illusions, and thus from all temptation. ⁴The Son of God is you.

²Let me not forget my function.
³Let me not try to substitute mine for God’s.
⁴Let me forgive and be happy. (W-64.1:2;2;3:1,3-4;6:2-4)

The truth in us lights the world with Love. But by accepting an identity as a body, we have covered the Light. Thus our function in the world is to forgive our mistaken belief in a false identity. That false identity simply represents the wish to be separate and special.

Today we choose to accept our only meaningful function in the world — to forgive our misperceptions and mistaken beliefs. We are grateful that the Holy Spirit is with us to guide us to true forgiveness. He will help us see the Love we are and share it with the world.

An Open Mind Brings Blessing to the World

God’s healing Voice protects all things today.

Let us today attend the Voice for God, which speaks an ancient lesson, no more true today than any other day. ²Yet has this day been chosen as the time when we will seek and hear and learn and understand. ³Join me in hearing. ⁴For the Voice for God tells us of things we cannot understand alone, nor learn apart. ⁵It is in this that all things are protected. ⁶And in this the healing of the Voice for God is found.

Your healing Voice protects all things today, and so I leave all things to You. ²I need be anxious over nothing. ³For Your Voice will tell me what to do and where to go; to whom to speak and what to say to him, what thoughts to think, what words to give the world. ⁴The safety that I bring is given me. ⁵Father, Your Voice protects all things through me. Our insistence on being a unique individual stands between us and our acceptance of our true Self. We hear and see what we want to hear and see. The Voice for God tells us we are not different. We are in fact one with our Creator and every brother.

Today we remind ourselves to keep our mind open to the Voice for God. A mind that is open has not predetermined what is real. It is willing to be taught the truth. It is willing to accept the oneness of Love. As we welcome His Voice, we learn to see our brothers as one with us. We feel our safety in the changelessness of Love. We embrace our brothers in that safety. We are blessed as we bring Love’s blessing to the world.

How to Have a Year of Joy

This is a year of joy, in which your listening will increase and peace will grow with its increase. ²The power of holiness and the weakness of attack are both being brought into your awareness. …whenever you listened to His interpretation the results have brought you joy. ⁶Would you prefer the results of your interpretation, considering honestly what they have been? ⁷God wills you better. ⁸Could you not look with greater charity on whom God loves with perfect Love?

⁵Today, let us resolve together to accept the joyful tidings that disaster is not real and that reality is not disaster. ⁶Reality is safe and sure, and wholly kind to everyone and everything. ⁷There is no greater love than to accept this and be glad. ⁸For love asks only that you be happy, and will give you everything that makes for happiness.

You have never given any problem to the Holy Spirit He has not solved for you, nor will you ever do so. ²You have never tried to solve anything yourself and been successful. …⁷This year invest in truth, and let it work in peace. ⁸Have faith in Him Who has faith in you. The key to joy is to listen to our true Self, the Holy Spirit, in all aspects of our lives. He will show us the true meaning behind all appearances. Love is the only true meaning and Its aspects are peace and happiness. Our true Self is our Reality.

Listening to the Source of truth in our mind requires that we pause to disengage from our involvement in our perceptions of the world. We disengage as we welcome the peace of God within us. As we let peace come into our minds, the Voice of our true Self comes through more clearly; the ego’s interpretations fade and we let Christ’s vision show us the presence of Love everywhere. This is how we will make this a year of joy.

Forgiveness Brings Happiness

The Holy Spirit, ever practical in His wisdom, accepts your dreams and uses them as means for waking. ²You would have used them to remain asleep. ³I said before that the first change, before dreams disappear, is that your dreams of fear are changed to happy dreams. ⁴That is what the Holy Spirit does in the special relationship. ⁵He does not destroy it, nor snatch it away from you. ⁶But He does use it differently, as a help to make His purpose real to you. ⁷The special relationship will remain, not as a source of pain and guilt, but as a source of joy and freedom. ⁸It will not be for you alone, for therein lay its misery. ⁹As its unholiness kept it a thing apart, its holiness will become an offering to everyone.

Your special relationship will be a means for undoing guilt in everyone blessed through your holy relationship. ²It will be a happy dream, and one which you will share with all who come within your sight.

⁴In your relationship the Holy Spirit has gently laid the real world; the world of happy dreams, from which awaking is so easy and so natural. ⁵For as your sleeping and your waking dreams represent the same wishes in your mind, so do the real world and the truth of Heaven join in the Will of God. ⁶The dream of waking is easily transferred to its reality. ⁷For this dream reflects your will joined with the Will of God. ⁸And what this Will would have accomplished has never not been done. God’s Will is always to be Love. His Love extends without limit. As His Son, His extension of Love, our true Will is to be and extend Love.

Our dreams of limitation and individuality seem real only because we picture a world of separation. We make this dream because it seems to offer us specialness that allows us to keep something we have as our own. These are not happy dreams because we have to constantly defend our specialness.

The way to awaken from our dreams is to forgive the wish for specialness. The Holy Spirit is our Guide to help us recognize the wishes that separate us, and let them go. This forgiveness makes way for the Love of our true Self to shine through.

As we forgive, we experience greater peace, happiness and Love. Our forgiving dream becomes a demonstration that helps all our brothers join us in the happy dream. In this happy dream, our will is joined with God’s to be only Love. Today we choose to forgive and be happy.

Accepting Help to Awaken to Love

My sinless brother is my guide to peace.
My sinful brother is my guide to pain.
And which I choose to see I will behold.

Who is my brother but Your holy Son? ²And if I see him sinful I proclaim myself a sinner, not a Son of God; alone and friendless in a fearful world. ³Yet this perception is a choice I make, and can relinquish. ⁴I can also see my brother sinless, as Your holy Son. ⁵And with this choice I see my sinlessness, my everlasting Comforter and Friend beside me, and my way secure and clear. ⁶Choose, then, for me, my Father, through Your Voice. ⁷For He alone gives judgment in Your Name. This dream world is a reflection of our wish for specialness and thus separation. We see some of our brothers as friends and some as adversaries. Adversaries can become allies and friends can be competitors. This only seems possible in a dream where we are separate from everything. Most importantly, it comes with the belief that we successfully separated from the Source of Love, our Creator.

Fortunately we can change our belief. We have been given a Guide in our mind to lead us out of the dream. He teaches us that we are Love and nothing else. If we let Him, He will show us that this Love is shared with everyone. As we learn to recognize the presence of Love, we easily dismiss the dream images that seemed to separate us. We see our oneness instead of our differences. We see the Love instead of fear. We are grateful that we have the Help that we need to awaken to our Home in the Heaven of God’s Love.

Forgiving Grievances Returns Us to Love

Love holds no grievances.

²Grievances are completely alien to love. ³Grievances attack love and keep its light obscure. ⁴If I hold grievances I am attacking love, and therefore attacking my Self. ⁵My Self thus becomes alien to me. ⁶I am determined not to attack my Self today, so that I can remember Who I am.

These specific forms for applying this idea would be helpful:

²This is no justification for denying my Self.
³I will not use this to attack love.
⁴Let this not tempt me to attack myself. (A Course in Miracles, W-84.3:1–4:4. See also ACIM Lesson 84 Insights.)

Grievances take many forms. At their core they are a grievance against God because He could not grant us the specialness the ego demands and remain Himself. The body is the primary symbol of the ego’s grievance against God. By making a dream of individual bodies, the ego made a world of uniqueness and differences. This could only seem to occur in a dream because differences are impossible in the oneness of God’s Love.

Our release from grievances comes with forgiveness. Grievances always depend upon perceiving differences. As we forgive these perceptions with the Holy Spirit’s help, Love comes forth. The Love we are is then allowed to join with the Love in which we live. This Love includes every brother as we recognize we share one Self, God’s Son.

Today we dedicate to letting the Holy Spirit help us heal our grievances that seem to separate us from our Father.

The Idea That Sets Us Free

I am the holy Son of God Himself.

Here is your declaration of release from bondage of the world. ²And here as well is all the world released. ³You do not see what you have done by giving to the world the role of jailer to the Son of God.

Yet what is it except a game you play in which Identity can be denied? ²You are as God created you. ³All else but this one thing is folly to believe. ⁴In this one thought is everyone set free. ⁵In this one truth are all illusions gone. ⁶In this one fact is sinlessness proclaimed to be forever part of everything, the central core of its existence and its guarantee of immortality.

But let today’s idea find a place among your thoughts and you have risen far above the world, and all the worldly thoughts that hold it prisoner. ²And from this place of safety and escape you will return and set it free. ³For he who can accept his true Identity is truly saved. ⁴And his salvation is the gift he gives to everyone, in gratitude to Him Who pointed out the way to happiness that changed his whole perspective of the world. When we identify with a body, we deny our true Identity as God’s Son. In truth, we remain as God created us. This fact is emphasized in 20 lessons that ask us to affirm it daily. We need the repetition to help us break free from our misidentification with the body.

This idea is the basis for forgiveness of the belief that we are separate from our Father. The belief that we can be harmed and capable of harming leads to fear and guilt. Yet our true Identity remains one in His Love, where harm is impossible. In this Identity, we are united in Love with every brother. Today we choose to embrace the world with Love, remembering we are united as everyone as God’s holy Son.
