Seeing Past Perception of Differences

Each [holy relationship] has looked within and seen no lack. Accepting his completion, he would extend it by joining with another, whole as himself. He sees no difference between these selves, for differences are only of the body.

Think what a holy relationship can teach! Here is belief in differences undone. Here is the faith in differences shifted to sameness. And here is sight of differences transformed to vision. Reason now can lead you and your brother to the logical conclusion of your union. It must extend, as you extended when you and he joined. It must reach out beyond itself, as you reached out beyond the body, to let you and your brother be joined. And now the sameness that you saw extends and finally removes all sense of differences, so that the sameness that lies beneath them all becomes apparent. Here is the golden circle where you recognize the Son of God. For what is born into a holy relationship can never end. (A Course in Miracles, T-22.in.3:2-4;4. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The ego’s seeming existence depends upon belief that the body is real. This is the purpose the ego gives it. Every body is unique, identified by its uniqueness. We give bodies different names to reinforce the belief differences are real.

As we begin to accept that we are not a body, we start to question the importance of these differences. As we practice asking the Holy Spirit what everything is for, we learn the differences that seem to separate us do not affect the truth that we are Spirit, complete and whole, united as one in God’s Love.

Our true Self is in need of nothing; God has already given It all His Love, peace and joy. As we learn this, we no longer seek for completion through relationships with “others.” Now relationships become a means to join together in the awareness of Love’s oneness. The acceptance of oneness automatically includes all. What was once perceived as different becomes accepted as one and the same in the unity of Love.

Today we practice asking the Holy Spirit to help us see past the perception of differences to the unity of Love.

The Healed Mind Accepts Love’s Unity

Just as forgiveness overlooks all sins that never were ac­complished, healing but removes illusions that have not oc­curred.

Healing, forgiveness, and the glad exchange of all the world of sorrow for a world where sadness cannot enter, are the means by which the Holy Spirit urges you to follow Him. His gentle lessons teach how easily salvation can be yours; how little practice you need undertake to let His laws replace the ones you made to hold yourself a prisoner to death. His life becomes your own, as you extend the little help He asks in freeing you from everything that ever caused you pain.

And as you let yourself be healed, you see all those around you, or who cross your mind, or whom you touch or those who seem to have no contact with you, healed along with you. Perhaps you will not recognize them all, nor realize how great your offering to all the world, when you let healing come to you. But you are never healed alone. And legions upon legions will receive the gift that you receive when you are healed.

Dreaming occurs only in the mind. Appearances in the dream are projected illusions representing what the mind believes is true. Illusions of sickness are fostered by the mind’s belief in separation from the oneness of God’s Love. Because the source of illusions is in the mind, healing can only occur in the mind.

The healed mind is not deceived by appearances in the world. Recognizing illusions for what they are, the healed mind knows its oneness with every mind, joined in the one Self created by the Mind of Love. With its willingness to share the Holy Spirit’s vision, the healed mind offers the gifts of Love, peace and joy to the world.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit’s Help to see as He sees, for we want to accept Love’s blessing and share it with the world.

Displacing Fear with Love’s Certainty

I gladly make the “sacrifice” of fear.

Here is the only “sacrifice” You ask of Your beloved Son; You ask him to give up all suffering, all sense of loss and sadness, all anxiety and doubt, and freely let Your Love come streaming in to his awareness, healing him of pain, and giving him Your Own eternal joy. Such is the “sacrifice” You ask of me, and one I gladly make; the only “cost” of restora­tion of Your memory to me, for the salvation of the world.

And as we pay the debt we owe to truth,—a debt that merely is the letting go of self-deceptions and of images we worshipped falsely—truth returns to us in wholeness and in joy. We are deceived no longer. Love has now returned to our awareness. And we are at peace again, for fear has gone and only love remains. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 323, W-pII.323. The debt we owe to truth is to accept it as it is, to accept that only Love is real. The ego believes that sacrifice is loss. But when we let Love flow through our awareness, we experience only Love’s blessing; we experience God’s peace and joy. Love displaces fear’s darkness for darkness cannot exist in the presence of Love’s Light.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s vision which shows us the truth of Love’s reality. We welcome the certainty of our safety that comes with awareness of Love’s eternal presence. We give up our attachment to the ego’s thought system of fear and guilt. We choose instead the Love of God, for we would remember He is our Home.

Reclaiming God’s Gift of Peace

To mean you want the peace of God is to renounce all dreams.

The mind which means that all it wants is peace must join with other minds, for that is how peace is obtained. And when the wish for peace is genuine, the means for finding it is given, in a form each mind that seeks for it in honesty can understand.

For you was peace created, given you by its Creator, and established as His Own eternal gift. How can you fail, when you but ask for what He wills for you? And how could your request be limited to you alone? No gift of God can be unshared. It is this attribute that sets the gifts of God apart from every dream that ever seemed to take the place of truth.

…you share one Will with all your brothers, whose intent is yours.

It is this one intent we seek today, uniting our desires with the need of every heart, the call of every mind, the hope that lies beyond despair, the love attack would hide, the brotherhood that hate has sought to sever, but which still remains as God created it. With Help like this beside us, can we fail today as we request the peace of God be given us?” (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 185, W-pI.185.5:1;6:1-2;12;13:5;14. We yearn for peace because we believe we are separate from our Creator. This belief in separation extends to perceiving our brothers as separate from us. To mean that we want the peace of God means we no longer want to believe we are separate and alone. We are willing to let go of the wish to claim anything as ours alone — the wish for specialness.

To mean we really want the peace of God, we must want peace for every brother. No matter what appearances or behavior we see in the world, every one is seeking what he believes will bring him peace and happiness. It is everyone’s heart’s desire. Everyone wants the peace that comes with remembering we are the one Self God created as His Son.

In the peace of God, we remember our oneness. We remember there is no “other” to conflict with or defend against. In this remembrance we awaken from the dream, accept God’s Will as ours, and reclaim the gift of peace that was given us in our creation.

Being Messengers of Love

God’s teachers appear to be many, for that is what is the world’s need.

Why is the illusion of many necessary? Only because reality is not understandable to the deluded. Only very few can hear God’s Voice at all, and even they cannot communicate His messages directly through the Spirit which gave them. They need a medium [the body] through which communication becomes possible to those who do not realize that they are spirit. A body they can see. A voice they understand and listen to, without the fear that truth would encounter in them. Do not forget that truth can come only where it is welcomed without fear. So do God’s teachers need a body, for their unity could not be recognized directly.

Yet what makes God’s teachers is their recognition of the proper purpose of the body. As they advance in their profession, they become more and more certain that the body’s function is but to let God’s Voice speak through it to human ears. (A Course in Miracles, M-12.2:5;3:1-4:2)

The only meaningful purposeful for the the body is to serve as a means for the Voice for God to be heard in the world. To be a clear channel for His Voice, we need to learn that all the images in the world are not real. We need to forgive the world for what we thought it was while we were under the ego’s influence.

The ego is the denial of truth. As we dis-identify with the ego, we clear the way for God’s Voice to speak through us. Peace comes to the forgiving mind. In this peace, God’s Voice inspires us and we hear ourselves expressing Love in a way that our brother’s can accept without fear. These messages are also for us, for this is how we teach what we need to learn.

Today we practice choosing the Holy Spirit as our Guide so that we may carry the Light of Love to the world as God’s messengers.

Freeing Ourselves to Be Love

You cannot judge. You merely can believe the ego’s judgments, all of which are false. [The ego] guides your senses carefully, to prove how weak you are; how helpless and afraid, how apprehensive of just punishment, how black with sin, how wretched in your guilt.

Hear not [the ego’s] voice. The witnesses it sends to prove to you its evil is your own are false, and speak with certainty of what they do not know.

Yet you must learn to doubt their evidence will clear the way to recognize yourself, and let the Voice for God alone be Judge of what is worthy of your own belief. He will not tell you that your brother should be judged by what your eyes behold in him, nor what his body’s mouth says to your ears, nor what your fingers’ touch reports of him. He passes by such idle witnesses, which merely bear false witness to God’s Son. He recognizes only what God loves, and in the holy light of what He sees do all the ego’s dreams of what you are vanish before the splendor He beholds.

Let Him be Judge of what you are…

Let Him be Judge as well of everything that seems to happen to you in this world. His lessons will enable you to bridge the gap between illusions and the truth.

He will remove all faith that you have placed in pain, disaster, suffering and loss. He gives you vision which can look beyond these grim appearances, and can behold the gentle face of Christ in all of them. The body is an image the ego made to hide the truth that our true Self is formless Love and nothing else. It teaches us that we are a body as evidence that we are weak, vulnerable to attack and destined to die. It teaches that letting go of the body as our identity would be our obliteration.

But the Voice for God teaches that the body is nothing more than a false witness that denies the truth that we are God’s Son, forever united with and in God’s Love. His judgment dismisses the ego’s false witnesses so we can see past them to Light of Love that shines in every brother.

When we let the Holy Spirit be the Judge of all things on our behalf, we free ourselves to be the Love we truly are. Let us practice this today. It is worth the vigilance.

We All Want to See the World of Love

The world as you perceive it cannot have been created by the Father, for the world is not as you see it. God created only the eternal, and everything you see is perishable. Therefore, there must be another world that you do not see.

Every loving thought that the Son of God ever had is eternal. The loving thoughts his mind perceives in this world are the world’s only reality. They are still perceptions, because he still believes that he is separate. Yet they are eternal because they are loving. And being loving they are like the Father, and therefore cannot die. The real world can actually be perceived. All that is necessary is a willingness to perceive nothing else. For if you perceive both good and evil, you are accepting both the false and the true and making no distinction between them.

…everything true is like [God]. Perceiving only the real world will lead you to the real Heaven, because it will make you capable of understanding it.

The real world is all that the Holy Spirit has saved for you out of what you have made, and to perceive only this is salvation, because it is the recognition that reality is only what is true. (A Course in Miracles, T-11.VII.1:1-3;2;3:8-9;4:9. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

All forms are defined by limits and therefore cannot be real. Only limitless, eternal Love is real. The world we perceive is made up images that hide limitless Love from our awareness. This Love remains ever present, but we do not recognize it is there. Love continues extending Itself unencumbered, whether or not we are aware of It.

This is good news. The Love our true Self is remains unchanged as God created It. We are not stuck in a dream of separation and isolation. God’s Voice calls to us eternally while we sleep. This call touches our heart and at the very least reminds us that something is missing in our world and so we search to find that missing piece. The ego offers substitutes for Love but they never fully satisfy. Eventually everyone reaches a point of acknowledging there must be a better way.

Our mind now has an opening to hear God’s Voice calling. We begin occasionally paying attention to it. His Voice helps us to see the changeless Love beyond the world’s appearances. With vigilance and practice, we are increasingly willing to dismiss the ego’s substitutes for Love and look past them to see the unity, safety and joy that the natural condition of the one Self we share with every brother — the Son of God.

Today we will be vigilant to listen to the Holy Spirit’s lessons in Love, for our deepest desire is to awaken to our home in Heaven. Beyond this world is a world we want to see. It is a world of perfect Love.
