Awakening from the Impossible Dream

I will receive whatever I request.

No one desires pain. But he can think that pain is pleasure. No one would avoid his happiness. But he can think that joy is painful, threatening and dangerous. Everyone will receive what he requests. But he can be confused indeed about the things he wants; the state he would attain. What can he then request that he would want when he receives it? He has asked for what will frighten him, and bring him suffering. Let us resolve today to ask for what we really want, and only this, that we may spend this day in fearlessness, without confusing pain with joy, or fear with love.

Father, this is Your day. It is a day in which I would do nothing by myself, but hear Your Voice in everything I do; requesting only what You offer me, accepting only Thoughts You share with me. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 339, W-pII.339. See also ACIM Lesson 339 Insights.)

It doesn’t seem that we choose pain and suffering. But that is what we choose when we identify with the ego belief that separation is not only possible but real. That choice led to the dream of a world of separation with the body as the hero of the dream.

With believing separation is real comes guilt because we believe we stole our self away from our Creator. With this belief comes a companion belief that our Creator must take vengeance upon us for what we stole. All this is the foundation of the dream world. Fortunately it is an impossible dream.

The way to awaken from the impossible dream is to choose God’s Voice as our Guide for everything we do. His Voice is the Voice of Love. It will guide us to awaken to Love and let go of the dream of guilt and fear. We need only maintain our commitment to follow only His Voice to awaken to our Home in the Heaven of God’s Love. Let us join together in this dedication today.
