Calling upon the Strength of Love

I am not asked to make a sacrifice To find the mercy and the peace of God.

The end of suffering can not be loss. The gift of everything can be but gain. You only give. You never take away. And You created me to be like You, so sacrifice becomes impossible for me as well as You. I, too, must give. And so all things are given unto me forever and forever. As I was created I remain. Your Son can make no sacrifice, for he must be complete, having the function of completing You. I am complete because I am Your Son. I cannot lose, for I can only give, and everything is mine eternally.

The mercy and the peace of God are free. Salvation has no cost. It is a gift that must be freely given and received. And it is this that we would learn today. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 343, W-pII.343. See also ACIM Lesson 343 Insights.)

When we give things in the world, we no longer have what we gave away. But because forms are not real, we have actually given nothing. We have neither lost when we give nor do we gain anything when someone gives us something in the world. The illusion of form was made by the ego to hide the fact that the contents of these forms is nothing.

All that we can really give in the world is Love, for only Love is real. God’s gift of Love is eternal and unlimited. The nature of Love is to extend Itself. We know that we have God’s Love by doing what Love does—extending It. Only unforgiveness interferes with our natural extension of the Love we are.

To be saved from the fear and guilt of the ego’s world, we need to forgive our mistaken identification with the ego. Forgiveness is our salvation, for it removes the barrier to awareness of Love’s presence. It lets us be the Love we were created to be by letting God’s Love extend through us to our brothers, who have always been one with us in truth.

Today we call upon the strength of Love within us to help us see the Love that unites us with every brother.
