Choosing Our True Self’s Vision

[God is in everything I see] explains why you can see all purpose in everything. It explains why nothing is separate, by itself or in itself. And it explains why nothing you see [with the body’s eyes] means anything. In fact, it explains every idea we have used thus far, and all subsequent ones as well. Today’s idea is the whole basis for vision.

You will probably find this idea very difficult to grasp at this point. You may find it silly, irreverent, senseless, funny and even objectionable. Certainly God is not in a table, for example, as you see it.

Try then, today, to begin to learn how to look on all things with love, appreciation and open-mindedness. You do not see them [as your true Self sees them] now. Would you know what is in them? Nothing is as it appears to you. Its holy purpose stands beyond your little range. When vision has shown you the holiness that lights up the world, you will understand today’s idea perfectly.

Real vision is not only unlimited by space and distance, but it does not depend on the body’s eyes at all. The mind is [real vision’s] only source. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 29, W-pI.29.1:1-2:3;3:1-6. 30.5:1-2. See also ACIM Lesson 29 Insights.)

It is important not to confuse what we see with the body’s eyes with real Vision. The image of a body and what is seen with the body’s eyes are mechanisms of the ego thought system made to make separation seem real. In the oneness of Love, there can be no separate images — only the unity of God.

Vision is of the mind. The Holy Spirit is in our mind to teach us how to see as He sees. As our Helper, He is aware of the images we perceive, but He does not believe they are real. His vision looks past the unreal images to the unified Love of God that is everywhere. Because God is everywhere, our true Self sees beyond the forms of the world and joins with God’s Love that is ever present no matter what forms the body’s eyes perceive. God is not a body, a table or a coat hanger. God is all that is real, and only Love is real.

To free ourselves from the pain, guilt and fear of the ego thought system, we need to overlook what the body’s eyes see and accept the vision of our true Self, which will always show us that only Love’s oneness is real.
