Forgiveness Is the End of Death

Teacher of God, your one assignment could be stated thus: Accept no compromise in which death plays a part.  Do not believe in cruelty, nor let attack conceal the truth from you. What seems to die has but been misperceived and carried to illusion. Now it becomes your task to let the illusion be carried to the truth. Be steadfast but in this; be not deceived by the “reality” of any changing form. Truth neither moves nor wavers nor sinks down to death and dissolution. And what is the end of death? Nothing but this; the realization that the Son of God is guiltless now and forever. Nothing but this. But do not let yourself forget it is not less than this. (A Course in Miracles, M-27.7)

Forgiveness is the core teaching of A Course in Miracles because total forgiveness is the end of the idea of death. All guilt is dependent upon belief in the reality of bodies and what they seem to do. The Course says in many ways that the Son of God is not a body. Our attachment to our identity as a body is an attachment to guilt. If we want to be free of fear and guilt, we must forgive, but not in the way ego directs.

True forgiveness can only be guided by the Holy Spirit from outside the thought system that makes the body real. The Holy Spirit sees us as Love created us — innocent and wholly loving. The Holy Spirit knows that we are not a body, for we remain as God created us. As we let the Holy Spirit show us the justification for forgiveness moment by moment, we learn to see past what bodies appear to do and see that only Love is real.

Today we practice letting Holy Spirit guide our perception all through the day that we may return to Love.
