Choosing to Receive God’s Gifts

This day is God’s. It is my gift to Him.

I will not lead my life alone today. ²I do not understand the world, and so to try to lead my life alone must be but foolishness. ³But there is One Who knows all that is best for me. ⁴And He is glad to make no choices for me but the ones that lead to God. ⁵I give this day to Him, for I would not delay my coming home, and it is He Who knows the way to God.

And so we give today to You. ²We come with wholly open minds. ³We do not ask for anything that we may think we want. ⁴Give us what You would have received by us. ⁵You know all our desires and our wants. ⁶And You will give us everything we need in helping us to find the way to You. The ego is in constant competition with God. It has an endless list of demands for what it needs to maintain specialness. But these demands block us from receiving the gifts of limitless joy and Love that God extends to us. He holds nothing back but we must extend His gifts to know we have them. The ego wants only what it can keep for itself alone. This God cannot give.

God’s gifts are ours now and forever. To know that we have them we need to have an open mind free of demands that His gifts come in a form we like. Of ourself alone we do not know what will bring us happiness and peace, but the Holy Spirit does.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit with an open mind and welcoming hands to choose for us the gifts God that lead us Home.

Remembering the Thought of Love We Are

The way to recognize your brother is by recognizing the Holy Spirit in him. ²I have already said that the Holy Spirit is the Bridge for the transfer of perception to knowledge…

The Holy Spirit is the idea of healing. ²Being thought, the idea gains as it is shared. ³Being the Call for God, it is also the idea of God. ⁴Since you are part of God it is also the idea of yourself, as well as of all His creations. ⁵The idea of the Holy Spirit… is strengthened by being given away. ⁷It increases in you as you give it to your brother. ⁸Your brother does not have to be aware of the Holy Spirit in himself or in you for this miracle to occur. ⁹He may have dissociated the Call for God, just as you have. ¹⁰This dissociation is healed in both of you as you become aware of the Call for God in him, and thus acknowledge Its being.

⁴See [your brother] through the Holy Spirit in his mind, and you will recognize Him in yours. ⁵What you acknowledge in your brother you are acknowledging in yourself, and what you share you strengthen.

⁵The Holy Spirit has the task of undoing what the ego has made. ⁶He undoes it at the same level on which the ego operates, or the mind would be unable to understand the change. (A Course in Miracles, T-5.III.1:1-2;2;3:4-5;5:5-6. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

The principal that ideas do not leave their source is the key to understanding that we, His Son, are God’s idea. This idea is the Thought of Love. God is only Love so His only Thought is Love. His Will is to share this Thought yet It remains held within His Mind. The shared Thought of Love created His extension, His Son with all His attributes. The attribute of sharing makes the Thought of Love extend forever.

The ego is the wish not to share and therefore cannot know the Reality of Love. While we identify with the ego’s wish for separation and specialness, we cannot experience or know Love. The wish to not share stands as a wall that guards us from the intrusion of Love. This wall is held in place only by a belief.

God gave us the Holy Spirit as a Bridge to transcend the wall the ego hides behind. Because of our engagement with the ego, we cannot understand the oneness and changelessness of God’s Love. But as a Bridge, the Holy Spirit translates the reality of Love into forms we can grasp while we believe we are within the limited perspective of the ego.

To connect with this bridge we must welcome peace into our mind. The Holy Spirit is dwells in peace. When we welcome His peace, we can recognize the Holy Spirit in our brothers. With His help, the barriers we have accepted that separate us from our brothers are undone.

Today we practice welcoming peace to let the Holy Spirit help us forgive our mistaken beliefs. As we accept the Holy Spirit’s undoing of our false beliefs, we remember the Thought of Love that is our true Self.

Letting Love Guide Our Thoughts Brings Miracles

Sickness is but another name for sin.
Healing is but another name for God.
The miracle is thus a call to Him.

Father, You promised You would never fail to answer any call Your Son might make to You. ²It does not matter where he is, what seems to be his problem, nor what he believes he has become. ³He is Your Son, and You will answer him. ⁴The miracle reflects Your Love, and thus it answers him. ⁵Your Name replaces every thought of sin, and who is sinless cannot suffer pain. ⁶Your Name gives answer to Your Son, because to call Your Name is but to call his own. The mind that believes separation is real is sick indeed. This belief denies the Will of God, and therefore denies Reality. Only a sick mind, an insane mind, could believe in the reality of what could never be real. Because Love is one, indivisible and the only Reality, believing in anything else is believing the unreal is real. This is the definition of insanity.

Our real Mind, the Mind at one with God, is eternally united in the oneness of God’s Love. As we let Love guide all our thoughts, the sick thoughts of separation, and the guilt and fear they engender, fade away into the nothing from which they came. The Light of Love illuminates our mind. We see that Light in our brothers and learn from Its reflection the Light that is in us. Together in our unity we remember God. This is the change of mind the miracle brings.

Freeing Our Mind from Barriers to Love

I loose the world from all I thought it was.

What keeps the world in chains but your beliefs? ²And what can save the world except your Self? ³Belief is powerful indeed. ⁴The thoughts you hold are mighty, and illusions are as strong in their effects as is the truth.

Yet is salvation easily achieved, for anyone is free to change his mind, and all his thoughts change with it. ²Now the source of thought has shifted, for to change your mind means you have changed the source of all ideas you think or ever thought or yet will think. ³You free the past from what you thought before. ⁴You free the future from all ancient thoughts of seeking what you do not want to find.

The present now remains the only time. ²Here in the present is the world set free. ³For as you let the past be lifted and release the future from your ancient fears, you find escape and give it to the world.

The world is nothing in itself. ²Your mind must give it meaning. ³And what you behold upon it are your wishes, acted out so you can look on them and think them real.

There is no world apart from what you wish, and herein lies your ultimate release. ²Change but your mind on what you want to see, and all the world must change accordingly. ³Ideas leave not their source. (A Course in Miracles, W-132.1:1-4;2:1–3:3;4:1-3;5:1-3. See also ACIM Lesson 132 Insights.)

The world we see is built on the foundation of a wish for specialness. Specialness only seems possible when differences are believed to be real. The oneness of Love leaves no room for differences. In Love’s oneness only Love is known, for only Love is real.

The mind healing the Course offers us is the shift from the wish for specialness to acceptance of our true Self, forever united in the Mind of God. Forgiveness is the means for release from our mistaken belief. This belief in separation stands as a barrier against the truth. By the grace of God, beliefs cannot change Reality. But they can hide It from our awareness.

Our only meaningful function in this world is to forgive our thoughts based on the wish for specialness. We call upon the Holy Spirit to help us release our mistaken beliefs, for we would be free to join in the oneness of Love.

Walking with Our Brothers in Love’s Light

…be you …grateful that you can be the means to serve [God’s] end. ³This is the only service that leads to freedom.

This holy relationship, lovely in its innocence, mighty in strength, and blazing with a light far brighter than the sun that lights the sky you see, is chosen of your Father as a means for His Own plan.

Child of peace, the light has come to you. ²The light you bring you do not recognize, and yet you will remember. ³Who can deny himself the vision that he brings to others? ⁴And who would fail to recognize a gift he let be laid in Heaven through himself? ⁵The gentle service that you give the Holy Spirit is service to yourself. ⁶You who are now His means must love all that He loves. ⁷And what you bring is your remembrance of everything that is eternal. ⁸No trace of anything in time can long remain in a mind that serves the timeless. ⁹And no illusion can disturb the peace of a relationship that has become the means of peace. (T-22.VI.3:2-3;4:1;6)

We serve the Holy Spirit when we are willing to bring all our guilt and fear to Him for His healing. Fear and guilt are signs that we are judging based upon belief that we are separate, alone and capable of harm or being harmed. Our identification with the ego and the body, its primary image of separation, is the cause of our fear and guilt.

We serve the Holy Spirit by offering Him our perceptions with willingness to receive His gift of true perception in exchange. This is how we forgive and learn that we are Love and nothing else. Forgiveness clears away the veil that hid Love’s presence from our awareness.

As we learn to accept the Holy Spirit’s vision in place of the body’s limited perceptions, we become a Light in the world. This Light of Love illuminates the way for us to join with our brothers in holy relationships. Whom we once perceived as different from ourselves is recognized as part of us in Love. In that recognition we acknowledge our oneness with God.

Today we welcome the Light of Love. We welcome Love’s guiding Light to walk with our brothers with joyful and peaceful hearts.

Christ’s Vision Reveals the Love We Are

⁶In quietness is [the peace of God] acknowledged universally. ⁷For what your inward vision looks upon is your perception of the universe.

Sit quietly and close your eyes. ²The light within you is sufficient. ³It alone has power to give the gift of sight to you. ⁴Exclude the outer world, and let your thoughts fly to the peace within. ⁵They know the way. ⁶For honest thoughts, untainted by the dream of worldly things outside yourself, become the holy messengers of God Himself.

We practice coming nearer to the light in us today. ²We take our wandering thoughts, and gently bring them back to where they fall in line with all the thoughts we share with God.

…we acknowledge that the peace of God still shines in us, and from us to all living things that share our life. ²We will forgive them all, absolving all the world from what we thought it did to us. ³For it is we who make the world as we would have it. ⁴Now we choose that it be innocent, devoid of sin and open to salvation. ⁵And we lay our saving blessing on it, as we say:

⁶The peace of God is shining in me now.
⁷Let all things shine upon me in that peace,
and let me bless them with the light in me. (A Course in Miracles, W-188.5:6–6:6;9:1-2;10. See also ACIM Lesson 188 Insights.)

Because God is Love and nothing else, His Thoughts are extensions of His Love. The thoughts we share with Him must also be thoughts of Love. Everything in the world is a projection from our mind. Thus forgiving thoughts reflect the thoughts of Love we share with God.

Forgiveness lifts the veil of unforgiveness that hides the presence of Love in which we dwell. Forgiveness occurs when we are willing to step back from the wish for specialness and separation. When we pause to go within to find the peace of God, we receive Christ’s vision. His vision shows us the Love that is with us always.

Like superman’s x-ray vision, Christ’s vision sees beyond the images in the world to the oneness of Love we share with every brother in God’s Love. We learn that nothing has occurred to change our true Self’s eternal unity with changeless Love.

Today we are willing to step aside from our perceptions of the world with willingness to receive true perceptions through Christ’s vision. This is how we welcome the peace of God.

Finding Comfort in God’s Peace

“I rest in God.” ²Completely undismayed, this thought will carry you through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of God. ³There is no suffering it cannot heal. ⁴There is no problem that it cannot solve. ⁵And no appearance but will turn to truth before the eyes of you who rest in God.

This is the day of peace. ²You rest in God, and while the world is torn by winds of hate your rest remains completely undisturbed. ³Yours is the rest of truth. ⁴Appearances cannot intrude on you. ⁵You call to all to join you in your rest, and they will hear and come to you because you rest in God. ⁶They will not hear another voice than yours because you gave your voice to God, and now you rest in Him and let Him speak through you.

In Him you have no cares and no concerns, no burdens, no anxiety, no pain, no fear of future and no past regrets. ²In timelessness you rest, while time goes by without its touch upon you, for your rest can never change in any way at all. There is only one way to resolve the appearances in the world that seem to justify anxiety, pain and guilt. We need to remember that in truth, we rest in God, not in the dream of conflict, loss and death. We along with every brother rest in God. He is our Creator, our Source and our refuge. He is the peace we yearn for. He is our Home, for we remain eternally united with Him and in Him.

Today, whenever we observe our peace is disturbed, we find comfort in remembering that we rest in God. We are eternally safe in His changeless Love. Nothing can harm our one Self, the Son of God.
