Recognizing Our True Treasure

Let us be still an instant, and forget all things we ever learned, all thoughts we had, and every preconception that we hold of what things mean and what their purpose is. ²Let us remember not our own ideas of what the world is for. ³We do not know. ⁴Let every image held of everyone be loosened from our minds and swept away.

Be innocent of judgment, unaware of any thoughts of evil or of good that ever crossed your mind of anyone. ²Now do you know him not. ³But you are free to learn of him, and learn of him anew. ⁴Now is he born again to you, and you are born again to him, without the past that sentenced him to die, and you with him. ⁵Now is he free to live as you are free, because an ancient learning passed away, and left a place for truth to be reborn. The most important lesson we need to learn is that, on our own, we do not know what anything means. There is great resistance to this thought because it seems to threaten everything we value. To help us learn this lesson, the Course shows us in many different ways that what we think is so important and valuable does not give us what we really want. In truth, all we really want is God’s Love. This is our treasure. But nothing in the world can give us the Love we seek.

If we are willing to let the Holy Spirit help us let go of our mistaken values, we will awaken to a treasure so beautiful and bright that nothing in the world comes close to it. Today we say: “Holy Spirit, I open my mind to You. Help me to recognize the valueless so I can make way to receive the Love I yearn for. I want to remember the Self God created as His Son, at one with Him in Love. I want the peace of God. I am grateful for Your help to recognize my true Treasure.”

Relaxing into Our Safety in God

Let me perceive no differences today.

Father, You have one Son. ²And it is he that I would look upon today. ³He is Your one creation. ⁴Why should I perceive a thousand forms in what remains as one? ⁵Why should I give this one a thousand names, when only one suffices? ⁶For Your Son must bear Your Name, for You created him. ⁷Let me not see him as a stranger to his Father, nor as stranger to myself. ⁸For he is part of me and I of him, and we are part of You Who are our Source, eternally united in Your Love; eternally the holy Son of God.

We who are one would recognize this day the truth about ourselves. ²We would come home, and rest in unity. ³For there is peace, and nowhere else can peace be sought and found. (A Course in Miracles, W-262. See also ACIM Lesson 262 Insights.)

All our anxiety, depression, sickness and guilt come from perception of differences. This perception denies the oneness of Love in which we live and have our being.

Today we accept with gratitude God’s gift of all of His Love, which keeps us eternally united with Him. In Him we find our peace and our joy. He is What we are as His one Son. Nothing can divide the indivisible, Love’s oneness.

We can relax now in the remembrance of our safety in our Home with God. We are loved without limit and rest in His peace.

The Treasure Greater Than Any in the World

All things are given you. ²God’s trust in you is limitless. ³He knows His Son. ⁴He gives without exception, holding nothing back that can contribute to your happiness. ⁵And yet, unless your will is one with His, His gifts are not received. ⁶But what would make you think there is another will than His?

Here is the paradox that underlies the making of the world. ²This world is not the Will of God, and so it is not real.

Yet in his lonely, senseless wanderings, God’s gifts go with him, all unknown to him. ²He cannot lose them. ³But he will not look at what is given him. ⁴He wanders on, aware of the futility he sees about him everywhere, perceiving how his little lot but dwindles, as he goes ahead to nowhere. ⁵Still he wanders on in misery and poverty, alone though God is with him, and a treasure his so great that everything the world contains is valueless before its magnitude.

³One walks with you Who gently answers all your fears with this one merciful reply, “It is not so.” ⁴He points to all the gifts you have each time the thought of poverty oppresses you, and speaks of His Companionship when you perceive yourself as lonely and afraid.

⁴Be witness in your happiness to how transformed the mind becomes which chooses to accept His gifts, and feel the touch of Christ. (A Course in Miracles, W-166.1:1–2:2;5;11:3-4;15:4. See also ACIM Lesson 166 Insights.)

The Course tells us in many ways that this world we experience is not real. Yet it seems difficult to accept its unreality. This is because we have convinced ourselves that our identity is established by our body, its birth and death, our personality, appearance, possessions and relationships with other bodies. It seems as though we would loose everything we value if we accept that this world is not real.

Yet this world offers nothing enduring in return for our investment in its reality. Investing in what does not last is a bad investment. But our real treasure is not lost. It is only hidden by our mistaken beliefs. Awareness of our real treasure returns to us as we let the Holy Spirit guide our thoughts and actions.

Under His guidance we learn to see through our mistaken beliefs that hide the truth. As we forgive our mistakes, the Love we are steps forward and reminds us of the eternal treasure. God has given us His Life, which cannot end in death. Our true Life is eternal. It is a Life of Love and peace. It is the joyous giving and receiving of Love without limit. We choose Love today, for we would accept God’s gift of happiness and peace.

Resting in Love’s Certainty

The Holy Spirit looks through me today.

Christ asks that He may use my eyes today, and thus redeem the world. ²He asks this gift that He may offer peace of mind to me, and take away all terror and all pain. ³And as they are removed from me, the dreams that seemed to settle on the world are gone. ⁴Redemption must be one. ⁵As I am saved, the world is saved with me. ⁶For all of us must be redeemed together. ⁷Fear appears in many different forms, but love is one.

My Father, Christ has asked a gift of me, and one I give that it be given me. ²Help me to use the eyes of Christ today, and thus allow the Holy Spirit’s Love to bless all things which I may look upon, that His forgiving Love may rest on me. What we see with the body’s eyes seems very real only because we believe the body is real. The Course tells us that only Love is real and God is only Love so His Creations must be only Love as well. It also says God did not create the body. This fact tells us that the body is not real and what the body sees must not be real. The acceptance of these facts releases us from the grip of the ego’s dedication to specialness and separation.

We have invested our identity in the belief that we are a body which could never be real. This mistaken investment must be undone. The key to this release is to choose the vision of Christ which sees only the reality of Love.

This vision shows us the Love in which we live along with all our brothers. In Love’s oneness loss and harm are impossible. Fear does not exist. We rest in the certainty of the Love we are, unified with our Creator. This awareness comes when we let the Holy Spirit look through our eyes.

Accepting the Healing Gifts Our Brothers Offer

God’s Will is your salvation. ²Would He not have given you the means to find it? ³If He wills you to have it, He must have made it possible and easy to obtain it. ⁴Your brothers are everywhere. ⁵You do not have to seek far for salvation. ⁶Every minute and every second gives you a chance to save yourself. ⁷Do not lose these chances, not because they will not return, but because delay of joy is needless. ⁸God wills you perfect happiness now.

It is perfectly obvious that if the Holy Spirit looks with love on all He perceives, He looks with love on you. ²His evaluation of you is based on His knowledge of what you are, and so He evaluates you truly. ³And this evaluation must be in your mind, because He is. ⁴The ego is also in your mind, because you have accepted it there. ⁵Its evaluation of you, however, is the exact opposite of the Holy Spirit’s, because the ego does not love you.

⁴The truth about you is so lofty that nothing unworthy of God is worthy of you. ⁵Choose, then, what you want in these terms, and accept nothing that you would not offer to God as wholly fitting for Him. (A Course in Miracles, T-9.VII.1:1-8;3:1-5;8:4-5. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

Every encounter with a brother is holy if he is seen with Christ’s vision. His vision shows us the truth in our brother, which is eternally at one with the truth of our true Self. Thus every encounter is an opportunity for healing of our mistaken beliefs if we are willing to accept the vision the Holy Spirit offers. The more committed we are to accepting the Holy Spirit’s help, moment by moment, the faster we will awaken to the joy and peace of our true Self at one with our Creator.

Opportunities for healing are available everywhere and always. It is up to us to accept them. Today we pray, “Holy Spirit, help me to see this situation or brother with Christ’s vision. I want to be healed of my false beliefs. I am willing, with Your help, to accept the healing gifts my brother offers.”

Our Friend and Guide to Love

This course is a beginning, not an end. ²Your Friend goes with you. ³You are not alone. ⁴No one who calls on Him can call in vain. ⁵Whatever troubles you, be certain that He has the answer, and will gladly give it to you, if you simply turn to Him and ask it of Him. ⁶He will not withhold all answers that you need for anything that seems to trouble you. ⁷He knows the way to solve all problems, and resolve all doubts. ⁸His certainty is yours. ⁹You need but ask it of Him, and it will be given you.

…hear but the Voice for God and for your Self when you retire from the world, to seek reality instead. ³He will direct your efforts, telling you exactly what to do, how to direct your mind, and when to come to Him in silence, asking for His sure direction and His certain Word. ⁴His is the Word that God has given you. ⁵His is the Word you chose to be your own.

And now I place you in His hands, to be His faithful follower, with Him as Guide through every difficulty and all pain that you may think is real.

³You will be told exactly what God wills for you each time there is a choice to make. ⁴And He will speak for God and for your Self, thus making sure that hell will claim you not, and that each choice you make brings Heaven nearer to your reach. (A Course in Miracles, W-ep.1;3:2-4:1;5:3-4)

It is comforting to know that we have a loving and all knowing Friend beside us to guide us to the Home that God created for us. This Friend recognizes our misperceptions, our fears and doubts but knows they are not real. He is the Source of truth in our mind we can turn to for guidance. He will always guide us in the way of Love, peace and happiness.

Alone, our journey through the world is filled with uncertainty. We have tried many things we thought would bring us happiness and peace that failed to satisfy. But our Friend will always bring us the truth that shows us the reality of Love and the nothingness of what seemed to cause fear. He is our mighty Companion. He offers us his strength and certainty when we feel vulnerable and unsure. We need but ask for His help and it is given us.

We start today by calling on His help. And throughout the day we will call upon His help when we feel a need for it. We will be upheld by His strength and blessed by His Love as He shows us we are Love and nothing else, united with our Creator.

Our Friend Who Leads Us Home

Anything in this world that you believe is good and valuable and worth striving for can hurt you, and will do so. ²Not because it has the power to hurt, but just because you have denied it is but an illusion, and made it real. ³And it is real to you. ⁴It is not nothing. ⁵And through its perceived reality has entered all the world of sick illusions. ⁶All belief in sin [separation], in power of attack, in hurt and harm, in sacrifice and death, has come to you. ⁷For no one can make one illusion real, and still escape the rest. ⁸For who can choose to keep the ones that he prefers, and find the safety that the truth alone can give? ⁹Who can believe illusions are the same, and still maintain that even one is best?

⁵Without [the Holy Spirit] you are friendless. ⁶Seek not another friend [ego] to take His place. ⁷There is no other friend. ⁸What God appointed has no substitute, for what illusion can replace the truth?

³Make no illusion friend, for if you do, it can but take the place of Him Whom God has called your Friend. ⁴And it is He Who is your only Friend in truth. ⁵He brings you gifts that are not of this world, and only He to Whom they have been given can make sure that you receive them. ⁶He will place them on your throne, when you make room for Him on His. We have chosen a “friend” whose sole purpose is to alienate us from God. This pseudo friend offers us gifts of specialness that seem to elevate our status, comfort us or protect us from harm. Yet it offers nothing but illusions.

There is no greater status than to be God’s Son, eternally united with Him in the oneness of Love. Because only Love is real, nothing the ego offers is real. By accepting its offerings we are choosing nothing in place of everything.

In His Love for His Son, God appointed him a Friend Whose sole purpose is to reunite him with his Creator. This gift returns us to Heaven when we choose to follow our appointed Friend. Today we choose to walk with our Friend on a journey without distance to our Home in Love which we never left in truth.
