The Means to Awaken to Love

Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. ²It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind.

Why would you seek an answer other than the answer that will answer everything? ²Here is the perfect answer, given to imperfect questions, meaningless requests, halfhearted willingness to hear, and less than halfway diligence and partial trust. ³Here is the answer! ⁴Seek for it no more. ⁵You will not find another one instead.

³Forgive and be forgiven. ⁴As you give you will receive. ⁵There is no plan but this for the salvation of the Son of God. ⁶Let us today rejoice that this is so, for here we have an answer, clear and plain, beyond deceit in its simplicity. ⁷All the complexities the world has spun of fragile cobwebs disappear before the power and the majesty of this extremely simple statement of the truth [Forgiveness offers everything I want.] (A Course in Miracles, W-122.3:1-2;4;6:3-7. Everyone is searching for peace and happiness. The only thing that interferes with having this experience is seeking for it where it cannot be found. If we choose the ego as our guide, it will direct us on quests to find some form in the world that will make us happy or feel safe. But there is nothing in the world that can truly offer this. It is just a dream of empty images that have no meaning of their own.

True and lasting peace and happiness are gifts from God, the only Source of Reality. We accept His gifts when we forgive our ego-based beliefs that deny God’s gifts.

Today we remind ourselves that we do not know on our own where to find peace and happiness. The idea of being alone is a barrier to the awareness of Love’s presence. We ask the Holy Spirit, God’s Messenger of Love, to help us see past our mistaken perceptions to the Love that never changes. We want to return to the Home God created for us where Love is all there Is. Here God shares all His joy and peace without limit nor end. We are grateful that we have the means to awaken to the Love we are.

Seeing Our Brothers as One with Our Self

Never forget that the Sonship is your salvation, for the Sonship is your Self. ²As God’s creation It is yours, and belonging to you It is His. ³Your Self does not need salvation, but your mind needs to learn what salvation is. ⁴You are not saved from anything, but you are saved for glory. ⁵Glory is your inheritance, given you by your Creator that you might extend it. ⁶Yet if you hate part of your Self all your understanding is lost, because you are looking on what God created as yourself without love. ⁷And since what He created is part of Him, you are denying Him His place in His Own altar.

Could you try to make God homeless and know that you are at home? ²Can the Son deny the Father without believing that the Father has denied him? ³God’s laws hold only for your protection, and they never hold in vain. ⁴What you experience when you deny your Father is still for your protection, for the power of your will cannot be lessened without the intervention of God against it, and any limitation on your power is not the Will of God. ⁵Therefore, look only to the power that God gave to save you, remembering that it is yours because it is His, and join with your brothers in His peace.

Your peace lies in its limitlessness. ²Limit the peace you share, and your Self must be unknown to you. (A Course in Miracles, T-11.IV.1:1–3:2. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

When we believe that the body is our or our brother’s identity, we are denying God’s Love. The body identity is the target of all the ego’s judgments. Judgment is used as justification for limiting the peace we share. We cannot believe anything is separate from us and share God’s peace without limit.

The path of return to peace is lit by forgiveness of the forms of separation we believe are real. This is why forgiveness is the means for our return to Love and the limitless peace that comes with it. Today we practice reminding ourselves as we think about our brother that beyond the appearance of a body lies the unity of God’s Love we share with all. As we see our brothers, we see ourselves.

Let us join together today in asking the Holy Spirit to help us see past the body to the presence of Love.

Finding Our Real Thoughts of Love

³There is no relationship between what is real and what you think is real. ⁴Nothing that you think are your real thoughts resemble your real thoughts in any respect. ⁵Nothing that you think you see bears any resemblance to what vision will show you.

You think with the Mind of God. ²Therefore you share your thoughts with Him, as He shares His with you. ³They are the same thoughts, because they are thought by the same Mind. ⁴To share is to make alike, or to make one. ⁵Nor do the thoughts you think with the Mind of God leave your mind, because thoughts do not leave their source. ⁶Therefore, your thoughts are in the Mind of God, as you are. ⁷They are in your mind as well, where He is. ⁸As you are part of His Mind, so are your thoughts part of His Mind.

⁴We will not let the thoughts of the world hold us back. ⁵We will not let the beliefs of the world tell us that what God would have us do is impossible. ⁶Instead, we will try to recognize that only what God would have us do is possible.

…tell yourself gently:

⁴My real thoughts are in my mind. ⁵I would like to find them.

⁶Then try to go past all the unreal thoughts that cover the truth in your mind, and reach to the eternal.

We have so thoroughly indoctrinated ourselves into believing the ego’s make-believe world is real that it is hard to fathom that the thoughts we are aware of are not our real thoughts. Yet this fact is the basis upon which our release from the ego’s limitations rests.

We can dispel the veil of the ego’s thoughts which hide our real thoughts if we are willing to reach for the eternal changeless Love of God. God’s Thoughts extend His Love. Our real thoughts we share with Him join in the limitless extension of Love. They dwell in Heaven, the Home of our Creator and our true Self.

God wills that we remain one with Him. It must be possible to awaken to what has always been real. Today we welcome the thoughts of Love we share with our Source.

The Radiant Love of the Present Moment

The past is over. It can touch me not.

Unless the past is over in my mind, the real world must escape my sight. ²For I am really looking nowhere; seeing but what is not there. ³How can I then perceive the world forgiveness offers? ⁴This the past was made to hide, for this the world that can be looked on only now. ⁵It has no past. ⁶For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.

Father, let me not look upon a past that is not there. ²For You have offered me Your Own replacement, in a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin. ³Here is the end of guilt. ⁴And here am I made ready for Your final step. ⁵Shall I demand that You wait longer for Your Son to find the loveliness You planned to be the end of all his dreams and all his pain? The ego is wholly focused on the past. Its concept of time makes the past unchangeable and forever bound to influence the future. The ego knows nothing about the present because the present is timeless.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher Whose purpose is to help us learn that nothing exists in the past or future. Only present Love is real. If we give Him a chance to teach us how to look upon the past, we will realize that it is not here in the present. The past cannot alter the present moment because it only seems to exist in a dream built upon “memories” of the past. By definition, a memory is not now. Without the ability to have any effect now, the past is meaningless and nothing.

This we will learn if we are willing to consistently choose the Holy Spirit as our Teacher and Guide in our daily lives. His purpose for time is to use it for forgiveness, to let the past go. Free of the past, the radiant Love of the present moment fills our lives.

The Reward Forgiveness Offers

³Errors are of the ego, and correction of errors lies in the relinquishment of the ego.”

Your brother’s errors are not of him, any more than yours are of you. ²Accept his errors as real, and you have attacked yourself. ³If you would find your way and keep it, see only truth beside you for you walk together. ⁴The Holy Spirit in you forgives all things in you and in your brother.

The Holy Spirit forgives everything because God created everything. ²Do not undertake His function, or you will forget yours. ³Accept only the function of healing in time, because that is what time is for. ⁴God gave you the function to create [extend Love] in eternity. ⁵You do not need to learn that, but you do need to learn to want it. ⁶For that all learning was made. ⁷This is the Holy Spirit’s use of an ability that you do not need, but that you made. ⁸Give [learning] to Him! ⁹You do not understand how to use it. ¹⁰He will teach you how to see yourself without condemnation, by learning how to look on everything without it. ¹¹Condemnation will then not be real to you, and all your errors will be forgiven. We identify with the ego because it seems to give us the specialness we think we want. Because specialness cannot exist in the oneness of Love, we can only get what we want in a dream that denies reality. We pay a steep price for choosing the ego as our guide. We lose awareness of the Love we are and seem to live in a world of fear. The ego condemns everything it makes but the Love we are sees only Itself everywhere.

When we forgive the wish for specialness, we remember we are Love. We taught ourselves to forget our Identity. Because of this, we need a Teacher from outside this belief system to learn that the world of fear and separation is not real. The ultimate lesson leads to the full remembrance that we are Love, created by Love, unchangeable and eternally one.

Today we remind ourselves frequently to ask the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts, our words and our actions. Under His guidance, we will remember we are Love and nothing else.

The Gift That Heals Our Guilt

No call to God can be unheard nor left
unanswered. And of this I can be sure;
His answer is the one I really want.

You Who remember what I really am alone remember what I really want. ²You speak for God, and so You speak for me. ³And what You give me comes from God Himself. ⁴Your Voice, my Father, then is mine as well, and all I want is what You offer me, in just the form You choose that it be mine. ⁵Let me remember all I do not know, and let my voice be still, remembering. ⁶But let me not forget Your Love and care, keeping Your promise to Your Son in my awareness always. ⁷Let me not forget myself is nothing, but my Self is all. The ego offers many “gifts” that appeal to our wish for specialness. These forms have no meaningful content because they deny the oneness of Love. We have taught ourselves to value form over content. We treasure what keeps us bound to the ego.

We need to learn that our true treasure is in God’s gift of all of His Love, without limit. His Voice speaks to us of our true treasure in the language we have taught ourselves to “understand.” So the means to release ourselves from the limitations of the ego is given us in a form we can understand. That gift is always some form of forgiveness applied to our particular need. This forgiveness heals the guilt we carry that is reflected in our perception of the world.

In truth, there is no cause for guilt. Nothing has changed the Love we are as God’s Son. But our investment in form leads us to believe that harm and loss are possible and real. The ego points to the forms accusingly to show us what we have done that demands guilt. The Holy Spirit points to them with happy laughter by showing us nothing really happened. The Son of God is still Love as Love created Him.

Today we welcome the Holy Spirit’s transformative gifts that dispel guilt, for we would awaken to our reality as God’s Son.

Being a Messenger of Love in the World

We stand together, Christ and I, in peace
and certainty of purpose. And in Him
is His Creator, as He is in me.

My oneness with the Christ establishes me as Your Son, beyond the reach of time, and wholly free of every law but Yours. ²I have no self except the Christ in me. ³I have no purpose but His Own. ⁴And He is like His Father. ⁵Thus must I be one with You as well as Him. ⁶For who is Christ except Your Son as You created Him? ⁷And what am I except the Christ in me? (A Course in Miracles, W-354. See also ACIM Lesson 354 Insights.)

The ego wants us to believe we are not the Christ. Acknowledging the Christ in us would disown the ego. For us to awaken to our true Self, we must let go of our mistaken identification with the ego.

We let go of the ego through forgiveness of our mistaken beliefs. Only these beliefs stand in the way of our awareness of the Christ within. Christ has never left us, for as God’s Son, we were created as the Christ.

Today we continue our journey of awakening by choosing the Holy Spirit as our Guide for all our thoughts, words and actions. With this practice we fulfill our purpose as messengers of Love in the world.
