The Lesson That Transforms Our World

⁶You who have taught yourself the Son of God is guilty, say not that you cannot learn the simple things salvation teaches you!

The lessons to be learned are only two. ²Each has its outcome in a different world. ³And each world follows surely from its source. ⁴The certain outcome of the [ego’s] lesson that God’s Son is guilty is the world you see. ⁵It is a world of terror and despair. ⁶Nor is there hope of happiness in it. ⁷There is no plan for safety you can make that ever will succeed. ⁸There is no joy that you can seek for here and hope to find. ⁹Yet this is not the only outcome which your learning can produce. ¹⁰However much you may have overlearned your chosen task, the lesson that reflects the Love of God is stronger still. ¹¹And you will learn God’s Son is innocent, and see another world.

The outcome of the lesson that God’s Son is guiltless is a world in which there is no fear, and everything is lit with hope and sparkles with a gentle friendliness. ²Nothing but calls to you in soft appeal to be your friend, and let it join with you. ³And never does a call remain unheard, misunderstood, nor left unanswered in the selfsame tongue in which the call was made. ⁴And you will understand it was this call that everyone and everything within the world has always made, but you had not perceived it as it was. ⁵And now you see you were mistaken. ⁶You had been deceived by forms the call [for Love] was hidden in. ⁷And so you did not hear it, and had lost a friend who always wanted to be part of you. ⁸The soft eternal calling of each part of God’s creation to the whole is heard throughout the world this second lesson brings. Think what a loving world we would experience if we recognized every fearful or guilty thought as a call for Love. Our true Nature would automatically respond with Love. An appearance of attack would be transformed with a joyous, loving response. Joy always comes with Love.

We have taught ourselves to give our own meaning to forms in the world. We learned this lesson so thoroughly that we cannot see the forms have no meaning of their own. The ego’s meaning given to forms overshadows the ever-present Light of Love.

The fact that this world and all its forms seems so real confirms that we have a highly developed learning skill. Thankfully this skill can be redirected to learn to undo the false meanings we have given to the world. We can learn to see the forms in the world as calls for Love. This lesson opens our days to joy, peace and love.

Shall we join with each other in the practice of learning the Holy Spirit’s lessons to recognize calls for Love? In this joining we experience the real world where guilt and fear are forgiven and Love guides us moment by moment.

Returning to the Joy of Loving

Choosing through the Holy Spirit will lead you to the Kingdom. ²You create by your true being, but what you are you must learn to remember. …⁴If you allow yourself to have in your mind only what God put there, you are acknowledging your mind as God created it. ⁵Therefore, you are accepting it as it is.

Truth is without illusions and therefore within the Kingdom. ²Everything outside the Kingdom is illusion. ³When you threw truth away you saw yourself as if you were without it. ⁴By making another kingdom that you valued, you did not keep only the Kingdom of God in your mind, and thus placed part of your mind outside it. ⁵What you made has imprisoned your will, and given you a sick mind that must be healed. ⁶Your vigilance against this sickness is the way to heal it. ⁷Once your mind is healed it radiates health, and thereby teaches healing.

²The Holy Spirit will enable you to take this step, if you follow Him. ³Your vigilance is the sign that you want Him to guide you. ⁴Vigilance does require effort, but only until you learn that effort itself is unnecessary. Only a sick mind can seem to experience pain, fear, guilt, depression and anger. Health is inner peace because there is no conflict in a healed mind. It radiates the oneness of God’s Love, unrestricted and carrying with it the power of God. This is the state of our true Self, which continues extending Love unabated no matter how engaged we are with the ego’s sick denial of Love.

With careful vigilance we have taught ourselves to believe that Love is unreal and fear and guilt are our only reality. Our effort to teach ourselves this was justified by our desire for specialness and separation. We have paid a steep price for learning this lesson.

We can undo this mistake by redirecting our vigilance. Now is the time to be vigilant to listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. His lessons will teach us that what we have taught ourselves is not true. We remain as God created us. His peace is still ours. His Love still blesses us and inspires us to join in Love with all our brothers. The need to defend is replaced by the joy of loving. Today we join with our brothers to be vigilant for God and His Kingdom of Love.

The Mission of Forgiveness

My heart is beating in the peace of God.

Surrounding me is all the life that God created in His Love. ²It calls to me in every heartbeat and in every breath; in every action and in every thought. ³Peace fills my heart, and floods my body with the purpose of forgiveness. ⁴Now my mind is healed, and all I need to save the world is given me. ⁵Each heartbeat brings me peace; each breath infuses me with strength. ⁶I am a messenger of God, directed by His Voice, sustained by Him in love, and held forever quiet and at peace within His loving Arms. ⁷Each heartbeat calls His Name, and every one is answered by His Voice, assuring me I am at home in Him.

Let me attend Your Answer, not my own. ²Father, my heart is beating in the peace the Heart of Love created. ³It is there and only there that I can be at home. (A Course in Miracles, W-267.1:1–2:3. See also ACIM Lesson 267 Insights.)

God has deemed His Son is worthy of all His Love. His gift keeps His Son forever united with Him, for Love has no limits.

Because of our belief that separation (sin) is real, we are unaware of God’s Love. We cannot see the innocence of Love in our brothers while we believe separation is real. To serve as a messenger of God’s Love in the world, we must forgive the mistaken belief in separation.

As we accept this mission, the Holy Spirit guides us in the way of Love. He offers us the vision that shows us the presence of Love around us everywhere and in everyone. This is the mission that frees us from fear and guilt. It awakens us to the peace we share in the Heart of God. This is how we remember we are in Heaven now.

The Answer That Brings Happiness

A teacher of God is anyone who chooses to be one. ²His qualifications consist solely in this; somehow, somewhere he has made a deliberate choice in which he did not see his interests as apart from someone else’s. ³Once he has done that, his road is established and his direction is sure. ⁴A light has entered the darkness. ⁵It may be a single light, but that is enough. ⁶He has entered an agreement with God even if he does not yet believe in Him. ⁷He has become a bringer of salvation. ⁸He has become a teacher of God.

⁹Everyone will answer in the end, but the end can be a long, long way off. ¹⁰It is because of this that the plan of the teachers was established. ¹¹Their function is to save time. ¹²Each one begins as a single light, but with the Call at its center it is a light that cannot be limited. ¹³And each one saves a thousand years of time as the world judges it.

There is a course for every teacher of God. ²The form of the course varies greatly. ³So do the particular teaching aids involved. ⁴But the content of the course never changes. ⁵Its central theme is always, “God’s Son is guiltless, and in his innocence is his salvation.” ⁶It can be taught by actions or thoughts; in words or soundlessly; in any language or in no language; in any place or time or manner. ⁷It does not matter who the teacher was before he heard the Call. ⁸He has become a savior by his answering. ⁹He has seen someone else as himself. ¹⁰He has therefore found his own salvation and the salvation of the world. ¹¹In his rebirth is the world reborn. God is always calling for teachers. In every moment we choose whether to answer His Call. Do we want to see our brother as the Love he is or do we want to see him as separate, different and capable of harm? To answer His Call, we must be willing to see the innocence of Love in our brother. We must be willing to see that his true desire is the same as ours—to be and give only Love. When we join in that desire, we answer God’s Call. Love becomes the Guide we follow with our thoughts, words and deeds.

Shall we answer the Call to be a teacher of God today? Do we want to be happy? The answer to these questions is the same.

Letting Go of Mistaken Values

Perception is consistent. ²What you see reflects your thinking. ³And your thinking but reflects your choice of what you want to see. ⁴Your values are determiners of this, for what you value you must want to see, believing what you see is really there. ⁵No one can see a world his mind has not accorded value. ⁶And no one can fail to look upon what he believes he wants.

Fear has made everything you think you see. ²All separation, all distinctions, and the multitude of differences you believe make up the world. ³They are not there. ⁴Love’s enemy has made them up. ⁵Yet love can have no enemy, and so they have no cause, no being and no consequence. ⁶They can be valued, but remain unreal.

It is impossible to see two worlds which have no overlap of any kind. ²Seek for the one; the other disappears. ³But one remains. ⁴They are the range of choice beyond which your decision cannot go. ⁵The real and the unreal are all there are to choose between, and nothing more than these.

It doesn’t seem that we would want to see a world in which everything that seems to live dies. It seems only insanity would want to see an uncertain world where fear and hate, anger and depression dominate everyone’s experience with occasional periods of “happy” relief that do not last. Only an insane mind that is out of touch with reality can believe in this world.

We can reconnect with reality, our sane mind, with the Holy Spirit’s help. His mission is to show us that the world of fear is not real and help us see the real world of Love’s oneness. The oneness of Love means that there are no differences nor distinctions between any part of Love. Love remains the same in its timelessness and eternal extension.

With the Holy Spirit’s help we learn to let go of the wish for specialness and separation. We learn that they have no value. Our real treasure is in the oneness of Love we share with our Creator. In this Love we recognize everyone as part of our one Self, worthy of God’s Love without limit. Today we choose to accept the blessing of God’s Love as our own.

Remembering Our Unbreakable Connection

God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him.

Perception is not an attribute of God. ²His is the realm of knowledge. ³Yet He has created the Holy Spirit as the Mediator between perception and knowledge. ⁴Without this link with God, perception would have replaced knowledge forever in your mind. ⁵With this link with God, perception will become so changed and purified that it will lead to knowledge. ⁶That is its function as the Holy Spirit sees it. ⁷Therefore, that is its function in truth.

In God you cannot see. ²Perception has no function in God, and does not exist. ³Yet in salvation, which is the undoing of what never was, perception has a mighty purpose. ⁴Made by the Son of God for an unholy purpose, [perception] must become the means for the restoration of his holiness to his awareness. ⁵Perception has no meaning. ⁶Yet does the Holy Spirit give it a meaning very close to God’s. ⁷Healed perception becomes the means by which the Son of God forgives his brother, and thus forgives himself.

You cannot see apart from God because you cannot be apart from God. ²Whatever you do you do in Him, because whatever you think, you think with His Mind. ³If vision is real, and it is real to the extent to which it shares the Holy Spirit’s purpose, then you cannot see apart from God. The world we experience is a perception based upon our belief that we are a separate entity. This belief leads to perceiving everything as separate and distinct from our own identity. Were it not for the unbreakable link of the Holy Spirit which keeps us connected to our Creator, we would be lost forever in the world of perception. This projected world is not real because only the oneness of God’s Love is real. It only seems real in a dream.

We can wake up from this dream by being willing to accept the Holy Spirit’s gift of Christ’s vision. His vision shows us the presence of Love beyond the barrier of perception. Christ’s vision is holy perception. It dismisses the barriers of belief in separation and helps us see the Light of Love that is always there to be seen. Christ’s vision bridges our perception from seeing separation to seeing the oneness of Love that joins us forever with our Source and every brother.

Today we practice asking the Holy Spirit for Christ’s vision. We want to remember the joy and peace that is our natural state as Love’s extension. We want to remember our unbreakable connection with our Source. We want to awaken to Love.

Learning to See Everyone’s Innocence

If you did not feel guilty you could not attack, for condemnation is the root of attack. ²It is the judgment of one mind by another as unworthy of love and deserving of punishment. ³But herein lies the split. ⁴For the mind that judges perceives itself as separate from the mind being judged, believing that by punishing another, it will escape punishment. ⁵All this is but the delusional attempt of the mind to deny itself, and escape the penalty of denial. ⁶It is not an attempt to relinquish denial, but to hold on to it. ⁷For it is guilt that has obscured the Father to you, and it is guilt that has driven you insane.

The acceptance of guilt into the mind of God’s Son was the beginning of the separation, as the acceptance of the Atonement is its end. ²The world you see is the delusional system of those made mad by guilt.

[The Holy Spirit] seeks to remove all guilt from his mind that he may remember his Father in peace. ³Peace and guilt are antithetical, and the Father can be remembered only in peace. ⁴Love and guilt cannot coexist, and to accept one is to deny the other. ⁵Guilt hides Christ from your sight, for it is the denial of the blamelessness of God’s Son.

In the strange world that you have made the Son of God has sinned. ²How could you see him, then? ³By making [God’s Son] invisible, the world of retribution rose in the black cloud of guilt that you accepted, and you hold it dear. ⁴For the blamelessness of Christ is the proof that the ego never was, and can never be. ⁵Without guilt the ego has no life, and God’s Son is without guilt. We have taught ourselves that we are separate and alone in a dream where the oneness of Love is absent. In this dream, harm and guilt appear real and God’s Love is unknown. We have imprisoned ourselves behind a wall of denial. We have become accustomed to this prison. It feels familiar and we believe it is our home. Yet the key to open the prison door is in our hand.

We have taught ourselves to believe in what could never be real in truth. Now we need to be taught that our belief is mistaken. We have a Teacher in our mind Who recognizes we dream but does not believe in our fantasies. We can call on Him in any moment for help to see beyond our mistaken beliefs to the truth of Love’s presence beyond our prison door.

The key we hold in our hand is the willingness to be taught the truth of Love’s changeless presence. With our willingness, our mind is open to Christ’s vision, which overlooks what bodies seem to do to see the radiant innocence of God’s Love shining everywhere and in everyone. As we accept this vision, we learn of the innocence of Love in us.

Today we ask the Holy Spirit to help us open our prison door and see the guiltless real world in which we dwell in peace.
