Dismantling the Ego’s Wall Against Love

God goes with me wherever I go.

We understand that you do not believe all this. How could you, when the truth is hidden deep within, under a heavy cloud of insane thoughts, dense and obscuring, yet representing all you see? Today we will make our first real attempt to get past this dark and heavy cloud, and to go through it to the light beyond.

Try… to get a sense of turn­ing inward, past all the idle thoughts of the world. Try to enter very deeply into your own mind, keeping it clear of any thoughts that might divert your attention.

…sink down and inward, away from the world and all the foolish thoughts of the world. You are trying to reach past all these things. You are trying to leave appearances and approach reality.

It is quite possible to reach God. In fact it is very easy, because it is the most natural thing in the world. You might even say it is the only natural thing in the world. The way will open, if you believe that it is possible. This exercise can bring very startling results even the first time it is attempted, and sooner or later it is always successful.

Our true Self is always peaceful, joyful and loving, for It remains united with the Love that created It. The identity we believe we are is a disguise made by the ego to hide the Truth. It is a smoke screen built upon lies and made-up images which we believe are real. That is the world we believe in. Yet it only seems to be there because we believe in it. But belief does not make it real; it only blinds us the to reality of Love.

We are innately loving, joyous and peaceful. We remember this when we forgive our beliefs in the reality of separation. The thought system of separation is a closed loop that builds a wall blinding us to the reality of Love.

The Holy Spirit provides the help we need from beyond the wall to dismantle it, belief by belief. At its core, every block in this wall is founded on one mistaken belief: Separation is real. We have given these blocks many labels and forms. We must forgive the forms, one by one until we recognize their common core. With this recognition, the wall comes tumbling down. The Light of Love dawns upon our minds. We can see clearly now, for the clouds are gone and we remember the Love we are.

Remembering the Self God Created

If you remain as God created you fear has no meaning, evil is not real, and misery and death do not exist.

If you remain as God created you, appearances cannot replace the truth, health cannot turn to sickness, nor can death be substi­tute for life, or fear for love. All this has not occurred, if you remain as God created you. You need no thought but just this one, to let redemption come to light the world and free it from the past.

If you are as God created you, then there has been no separation of your mind from His, no split between your mind and other minds, and only unity within your own.

The healing power of today’s idea [I am as God created me] is limitless. It is the birthplace of all miracles, the great restorer of the truth to the awareness of the world. Practice today’s idea with gratitude. This is the truth that comes to set you free. This is the truth that God has promised you. This is the Word in which all sorrow ends. The ego traffics in fear. The more it can make images of harm, loss, pain and death seem real, the more we believe we are limited by the ego’s chains of fear. Only our identification with the ego and belief that separation is real gives these chains the appearance of power to limit us. The chains dissolve in the presence of the reality of God’s Love.

We have Help to heal our mistaken beliefs—the Holy Spirit in our mind Whose mission is to correct and heal our misperceptions and our mistaken beliefs. For all our thoughts of fear and limitation, we ask the Holy Spirit for His help to heal our fear based thoughts. With this healing, the vision of Love replaces the ego’s projections of fear. The chains of fear are dispelled by the acceptance of Love’s reality in our mind. We free ourselves to remember the Self that God created one with Him.

Returning Home to the Peace of God

I will be still an instant and go home.

This world you seem to live in is not home to you. And some­where in your mind you know that this is true. A memory of home keeps haunting you, as if there were a place that called you to return, although you do not recognize the voice, nor what it is the voice reminds you of. Yet still you feel an alien here, from somewhere all unknown.

We speak today for everyone who walks this world, for he is not at home. He goes uncertainly about in endless search, seek­ing in darkness what he cannot find; not recognizing what it is he seeks. A thousand homes he makes, yet none contents his restless mind. He does not understand he builds in vain. The home he seeks can not be made by him. There is no substitute for Heaven. All he ever made was hell.

When you are still an instant, when the world recedes from you, when valueless ideas cease to have value in your restless mind, then will you hear His Voice.

We do not have to accept the chaos of the world we seem to live in as our reality. Only Love is real. It is One, whole, complete and changeless. We can be certain of our safety and peace in the world of Love. Love is God’s world and our true Home.

Only our mistaken belief that we have left this Home and lost the safety of God’s Love could make this chaotic world seem real. While we hang on to this belief, we are unaware of our real Home in Love. Yet we miss our connection with His Love. We long to return to It. Yet within our belief in separation from God, it is impossible to find the Love that would satisfy our longing. His Love surrounds us yet we are unaware of Its safety and comfort.

We have been given a Guide from beyond our mistaken beliefs Whose eternal presence in our mind is ready to guide us back to our true Home. We need only question the reality of our perceptions and be willing to turn peacefully to this Guide within for help.

He speaks to us in forms we can understand and shows us how to see the eternal Presence of Love beyond all appearances in the world. We will find our way Home by frequently turning in peace throughout the day to our inner Guide in our mind for help. We step back and let Him lead the way.

Sharing Our Inheritance of God’s Love

God, being Love, is also happiness.

Let me remember love is happiness, and nothing else brings joy. And so I choose to entertain no substitutes for love.

I seek but what belongs to me in truth.

Love is my heritage, and with it joy. These are the gifts my Father gave to me. I would accept all that is mine in truth. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 117, W-pI.117. See also ACIM Lesson 117 Insights.)

This world is the outward picture of the ego’s rejection of God’s Love and joy. We do not have to accept the ego’s version of reality. It is not true.

Today we pay attention to our state of mind. Are we at peace? Are we happy? Do we feel the Love of God in our hearts and see It in our brothers? If the answer to any of these questions is no or not completely, then we are still hanging on to the ego’s rejection of God’s Love.

And so we say: Holy Spirit, I give my thoughts and beliefs to you. Help me see past the ego’s substitutes for Love. Help me see with Your vision the eternal presence of God’s Love and joy everywhere. I am willing to accept my inheritance from my Father and share It with all my brothers, who are one with me.

Accepting Love’s Protection

Father, Your Son is perfect. When I think that I am hurt in any way, it is because I have forgotten who I am, and that I am as You created me. Your Thoughts can only bring me happiness. If ever I am sad or hurt or ill, I have forgotten what You think, and put my little meaningless ideas in place of where Your Thoughts belong, and where they are. I can be hurt by nothing but my thoughts. The Thoughts I think with You can only bless. The Thoughts I think with You alone are true.

I will not hurt myself today. For I am far beyond all pain. My Father placed me safe in Heaven, watching over me. And I would not attack the Son He loves, for what He loves is also mine to love. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 281, W-pII.281. See also ACIM Lesson 281 Insights.)

We seem to be in a world of hurt. But it is only a false image of our self that seems to be capable of being hurt. This little separate self is a construct of the ego thought system of separation. It could never be real in truth. But our belief in this little self’s reality makes harm, even to the point of death, seem real. All this comes from denial of the Love God wills us to have and be.

It is time to welcome God’s Love in our mind and heart. God’s Love is His eternal gift to His Son, our true Self. He has not withdrawn His gift. His Love is changeless. It cannot be hurt or changed in any way. This changelessness guarantees our perfect protection from harm, for we share God’s invulnerability.

Today we choose to perceive the world with Christ’s vision, seeing the innocence and harmlessness of Love everywhere. With this practice we accept the Self God created as His Son in place of the false image of a little, separated self. In gratitude we accept the gift of God’s Love.

Accepting Christ’s Vision of Love

What but Christ’s vision would I use today, when it can offer me a day in which I see a world so like to Heaven that an ancient memory returns to me? Today I can forget the world I made. Today I can go past all fear, and be restored to love and holiness and peace. Today I am redeemed, and born anew into a world of mercy and of care; of loving kindness and the peace of God.

And so, our Father, we return to You, remembering we never went away; remembering Your holy gifts to us. In gratitude and thankfulness we come, with empty hands and open hearts and minds, asking but what You give. We cannot make an offering [illusion] sufficient for Your Son. But in Your Love the gift of Christ is his. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 306, W-pII.306. See also ACIM Lesson 306 Insights.)

When we follow the ego’s dictates we deny the presence of Love, which is all around us. We perceive instead a world of conflict, lack of Love, fear and guilt. Through all of this our heart calls for the Love of our true Self.

The ego interprets this call as a need to search for acceptance, status and value through acquiring things in the world. It is a decoy to divert our attention from seeking where Love is because the ego does not know what Love is or where to find It.

To heal the misperceptions offered by the ego, we have been given the vision of Christ. We open our mind to this vision when we choose to question our perceptions and ask for help from our inner Teacher to see truly. This vision comes from our true Self. The Holy Spirit is the bridge between the changeless Love of our Self and the self that perceives the ego’s made-up world.

Today we open our mind and heart to receive Christ’s vision, for we would remember our Home in God’s Love. With this vision, we bring healing to the world.

We Are Loved Eternally

On my decision all salvation rests.

Father, Your trust in me has been so great, I must be worthy. You created me, and know me as I am. And yet You placed Your Son’s salvation in my hands, and let it rest on my decision. I must be beloved of You indeed. And I must be steadfast in holiness as well, that You would give Your Son to me in certainty that he is safe Who still is part of You, and yet is mine, because He is my Self.

And so, again today, we pause to think how much our Father loves us. And how dear His Son, created by His Love, remains to Him Whose Love is made complete in him. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 238, W-pII.238. See also ACIM Lesson 238 Insights.)

The world we experience as a body reflects our decision to believe in a false identity which denies our birthright as God’s Son. We reverse this decision to deny God’s Love by choosing to accept our true Identity as Love. With this decision, we save ourselves from the hell of believing that we are separate from God in a loveless world. We accept the loving Self that is God’s one Son.

This Self sees no world of separation, no bodies, no forms of any kind. It knows only the oneness of God’s changeless Love, perfectly safe at Home in Heaven. This singular decision seems like many in the ego’s world because the decision for separation is reflected as many forms in the ego’s projected world.

As we let the Holy Spirit guide our perceptions of the world, we learn to recognize they are not true. We learn to see past our misperceptions to the eternal presence of Love. By this forgiveness process we release the world from what we believed it was and take another step toward salvation of the projected world. This practice is the only meaningful use of time in the world. It is the way we reclaim our birthright as God’s Son and awaken to the reality that God’s gift of Love remains the truth of What we are.
