Learning to Accept the Love We Are

God’s teachers have learned how to be simple. ²They have no dreams that need defense against the truth. ³They do not try to make themselves. ⁴Their joy comes from their understanding Who created them. ⁵And does what God created need defense? ⁶No one can become an advanced teacher of God until he fully understands that defenses are but foolish guardians of mad illusions. ⁷The more grotesque the dream, the fiercer and more powerful its defenses seem to be. ⁸Yet when the teacher of God finally agrees to look past them, he finds that nothing was there. ⁹Slowly at first he lets himself be undeceived. ¹⁰But he learns faster as his trust increases. ¹¹It is not danger that comes when defenses are laid down. ¹²It is safety. ¹³It is peace. ¹⁴It is joy. ¹⁵And it is God. (A Course in Miracles, M-4.VI.1)

Our dream of identifying with a body is a defense against the oneness of God’s Love. Separate images do not exist in what is uniformly one. This is why the Course teaches us that we are not a body. We are God’s Son, united with Him and His Love.

Having made the choice to believe in a separate identity, we need help from our inner Teacher to learn to see the truth beyond the illusions. Each time we let the Holy Spirit help us forgive a thought of separation, we take a step closer to letting truth dawn upon our minds. The truth sets us free to accept God’s gift of all His Love. As we we accept this gift, we become messengers of His Love.

It is a gentle process, because the Holy Spirit always leads us away from fear. His lessons help us accept the peace and happiness that is our natural state. Today we welcome His help to lay down our defenses and awaken to the safety and joy of our Life in God.
