Letting Go of Our Fake Identity

Let me remember that my goal is God.

All that is needful is to train our minds to overlook all little senseless aims, and to remember that our goal is God. ²His memory is hidden in our minds, obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing, and do not exist. ³Shall we continue to allow God’s grace to shine in unawareness, while the toys and trinkets of the world are sought instead? ⁴God is our only goal, our only Love. ⁵We have no aim but to remember Him.

Our goal is but to follow in the way that leads to You. ²We have no goal but this. ³What could we want but to remember You? ⁴What could we seek but our Identity? (A Course in Miracles, W-258. See also ACIM Lesson 258 Insights.)

The ego has one goal: To replace God with its own image. It denies God’s Love and offers a special identity as a substitute for God’s creation of His one Son. This substitute has no life, only a dream in which the body is the central figure representing a special, separate identity. This is what we believe we are when we identify with the ego.

By the grace of God, we cannot obliterate our Self that is God’s Son. We can hide from our true Self and believe in dreams of a separate identity. But dreams are held in place only by the wish for specialness. They have no effect whatsoever on reality.

No matter what dreams have come into our mind, they do not change the Reality of our true Self. This Self is forever united with God. Beneath the images of dreams, the memory of God remains. It calls us to awaken and remember the Love that dreams have hidden from our awareness. This call is our only real goal. All we really want is to remember the Reality of Love. We want to remember God.

Today we welcome the vision of our true Self, which shows us we remain at Home in God’s Love. This vision shows us the Love that unites us with every brother. In this unity, we find the peace that is characteristic of Love’s oneness.
