Claiming God’s Life as Our Own

There is no death because what God created shares His life.

[Death] is the one idea which underlies all feelings that are not supremely happy. It is the alarm to which you give response of any kind that is not perfect joy. All sorrow, loss, anxiety and suffering and pain, even a little sigh of weariness, a slight discomfort or the merest frown, acknowledge death. And thus deny you live.

The mind can think it sleeps, but that is all. [Mind] cannot change what is its waking state. It cannot make a body, nor abide within a body. What is alien to the mind does not exist, because it has no source. For mind creates all things that are, and cannot give them attributes it lacks, nor change its own eternal, mindful state. It cannot make the physical. What seems to die is but the sign of mind asleep.

It dreams of time; an interval in which what seems to happen never has occurred, the changes wrought are substanceless, and all events are nowhere. When the mind awakes, it but continues as it always was.

[God’s] holy home we strive to keep today as He established it, and wills it be forever and forever. He is Lord of what we think today. It is helpful to learn how belief in death, in being separate from God, permeates our experience in the world. We were created to share God’s limitless joy and perfect peace. We can only seem to experience anything less than that in a dream of separation and death.

A dream, by definition, is not forever and it is not real. This is good news because it means we are not stuck in a dream world of conflict, loss and death. We can awaken from the dream.

We have been given the Call to awaken by our Creator. This Call is eternal because It comes from our eternal Source. It calls unceasingly from the mind awake to the mind asleep. We have never been left without Help. Today we call upon this Help to shine Its Light upon all our thoughts in the dream to help us recognize illusions as illusions and let them go. This is our journey of awakening to remembering that we share God’s Life eternally.

The Key to Happiness

God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.

Accept Atonement with an open mind, which cherishes no lingering belief that you have made a devil of God’s Son. There is no sin. We practice with this thought as often as we can today, because it is the basis for today’s idea.

God’s Will for you is perfect happiness because there is no sin, and suffering is causeless. Joy is just, and pain is but the sign you have misunderstood yourself. Fear not the Will of God. But turn to it in confidence that it will set you free from all the consequences sin has wrought in feverish imagination. Say:

God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.
There is no sin; it has no consequence.

You are set on freedom’s road, and now today’s idea brings wings to speed you on, and hope to go still faster to the waiting goal of peace. There is no sin. Remember this today, and tell yourself as often as you can:

God’s Will for me is perfect happiness.

The central idea the Course offers us is that only Love is real. This excludes the possibility of harm or guilt because Love cannot harm. Love is one. Harm could only be possible if there were an “other” that could be attacked. The appearance of differences in separation is impossible in the oneness of Love.

Yet differences, separation and harm seem to be all that exists in the world we perceive. Only our belief that separation is true makes the world seem real. Thus we believe the impossible is possible. This could only occur in dreams.

Harm is not real, for only the changeless Love of God is real. Accepting the truth of this thought is the key to freedom from fear and guilt. If harm is impossible, then guilt can never be justified. The acceptance of the reality of God’s changeless Love brings with it His perfect happiness.

When we identify with the Truth that we are an extension of God’s Love, the illusions of harm, guilt and fear fade away to be replaced by God’s joy and peace. All the attributes of God’s Love are ours forever, never to be diminished. Today we practice this thought — to remind ourselves that we are free, for sin is not real. Only Love is real. This is the key to happiness.

Learning the Peace of God Is Ours

When the mind is split there is a need of healing. So the Thought [Holy Spirit] that has the power to heal the split became a part of every fragment of the mind that still was one, but failed to recognize its oneness. Now it did not know itself, and thought its own Identity was lost.

Salvation is undoing in the sense that it does nothing, failing to support the world of dreams and malice.  Thus it lets illusions go. By not supporting them, it merely lets [illusions] quietly go down to dust. And what they hid is now revealed; an altar to the holy Name of God whereon His Word is written, with the gifts of your forgiveness laid before it, and the memory of God not far behind.

Let us come daily to this holy place, and spend a while together. Here we share our final dream.  It is a dream in which there is no sorrow, for it holds a hint of all the glory given us by God. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 231,W-pII.2.2:3-4:3. See also ACIM Lesson 231 Insights.)

Salvation undoes the illusion of separation by not supporting it. Illusions only seem real because we support them with our belief. Without belief illusions fade and disappear.

This is what the Course means when it tells us we need do nothing. We need to stop supporting illusions with our belief that separation is real. As we let go of our mistaken beliefs by letting the Holy Spirit show us the changeless Love hidden behind our made up images of separation, we remember our true Identity as God’s Love. With this we remember our Creator and remember the peace of God given us in our Creation.

The practice of letting Holy Spirit be our Guide in each moment is how we free ourselves from the ego thought system and recognize our one Self that is God’s Son.

A Practice of True Forgiveness

It is sin’s unreality that makes forgiveness natural and wholly sane, a deep relief to those who offer it; a quiet blessing where it is received. It does not countenance illusions, but collects them lightly, with a little laugh, and gently lays them at the feet of truth. And there they disappear entirely.

Forgiveness is the only thing that stands for truth in the illusions of the world. It sees [illusions’] nothingness, and looks straight through the thousand forms in which they may appear.

There is a very simple way to find the door to true forgiveness, and perceive it open wide in welcome. When you feel that you are tempted to accuse someone of sin in any form, do not allow your mind to dwell on what you think he did, for that is self-deception. Ask instead, “Would I accuse myself of doing this?

Thus will you see alternatives for choice in terms that render choosing meaningful, and keep your mind as free of guilt and pain as God Himself intended it to be, and as it is in truth. It is but lies that would condemn. In truth is innocence the only thing there is. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 134,W-pI.134.6:1-7:2;9:1-10:3. See also ACIM Lesson 134 Insights.)

The Course tells us that everything we perceive in the world is a projection from our split mind which believes separation is real. When we judge another, we judge ourselves. The projection uses form to make it appear that another did something that harmed. Yet the belief in harm must come from our own mind. If we did not accept the idea of harm in ourself, we could not perceive harm in another. Our True Self is wholly innocent and sees only innocence.

When we perceive a wrong (sin), asking ourselves, “Would I accuse myself of this?” helps us take responsibility for our projections. As we recognize our projections, we can bring them to the Holy Spirit for His help with forgiving our misperception. The Holy Spirit will shine the Light of Truth on our mistaken perception to show us that what we believe happened is only an illusion. In His Light the illusion will fade into the nothingness from which it came.

Through this forgiveness we open our minds to the truth that we and all our brothers remain Love as God created us.

Let Love Decide

You can be perfect witness to the power of love and justice, if you understand it is impossible the Son of God could merit vengeance. You need not perceive, in every circumstance, that this is true. Nor need you look to your experience within the world, which is but shadows of all that is really happening within yourself. The understanding that you need comes not of you, but from a larger Self, so great and holy that He could not doubt His innocence. Your special function is a call to Him, that He may smile on you whose sinlessness He shares. His understanding will be yours. And so the Holy Spirit’s special function has been fulfilled. God’s Son has found a witness unto his sinlessness and not his sins. How little need you give the Holy Spirit that simple justice may be given you.

You have the right to all the universe; to perfect peace, complete deliverance from all effects of sin, and to the life eternal, joyous and complete in every way, as God appointed for His holy Son. This is the only justice Heaven knows, and all the Holy Spirit brings to earth. Your special function shows you nothing else but perfect justice can prevail for you. And you are safe from vengeance in all forms. The world deceives, but it cannot replace God’s justice with a version of its own. For only love is just, and can perceive what justice must accord the Son of God. Let love decide, and never fear that you, in your unfairness, will deprive yourself of what God’s justice has allotted you. (A Course in Miracles,T-25.VIII.12;14. See also ACIM Text Made Simple.)

We cannot look to the world or our past experiences in the world to understand fairness and justice. The world is made by the belief in inequality (specialness). It is a picture of injustice because it is the denial of the justice of God’s Love given equally to all. The little separate self we believe we are cannot be fair because it is unaware of God’s perfect Love.

But hidden beneath the image of the little self is the Self that is perfect Love, united with Its Creator. This Self is fair because it sees only the reality of Love everywhere. It is to this Self we must look for guidance for in all things.

Let us join together in the practice of letting Love decide how to perceive all things in the world. This is how we bring salvation to the world and ourselves.

Accepting the Gift of Healing

You must look upon your illusions and not keep them hidden, because they do not rest on their own foundation. In concealment they appear to [rest on their own foundation], and thus they seem to be self-sustained. This is the fundamental illusion on which the others rest. For beneath [the illusions], and concealed as long as they are hidden, is the loving mind that thought it made them in anger. And the pain in this mind is so apparent, when it is uncovered, that its need of healing cannot be denied. Not all the tricks and games you offer it can heal it, for here is the real crucifixion of God’s Son.

And yet he is not crucified. Here is both his pain and his healing, for the Holy Spirit’s vision is merciful and His remedy is quick. Do not hide suffering from His sight, but bring it gladly to Him. Lay before His eternal sanity all your hurt, and let Him heal you. Do not leave any spot of pain hidden from His light, and search your mind carefully for any thoughts you may fear to uncover. For He will heal every little thought you have kept to hurt you and cleanse it of its littleness, restoring it to the magnitude of God. (A Course in Miracles,T-13.III.6-7. The Great Healer of all our pain, suffering, fear and guilt is in our mind, given us by our Creator. But He can heal only what we are willing to be healed. If we keep our guilt, fear, anger and hatred hidden, they cannot be healed.

Healing requires our willingness to accept it. We must be willing to give up the isolation of a separate identity. We must be willing to let go of the need to have special favor, something we keep for ourselves alone. God’s Love is total, given equally to all. The moment we attempt to limit Love, we have lost awareness of what Love is. Fear takes Its place in the illusion of separation in which competition and attack prevail. But only illusions can attack illusions. Illusions are simply projections of our belief in separation.

The source of all illusions is in our minds. And the means to heal all illusions is in our minds. We need only be willing to turn over all our pain and guilt to the Great Healer and accept the healing offered us.

The Path to Enlightenment

Be not afraid today to circumvent the voices of the world. Walk lightly past their meaningless persuasion. Hear them not. Be still today and listen to the truth. Go past all things which do not speak of Him Who holds your happiness within His Hand, held out to you in welcome and in love. Hear only Him today, and do not wait to reach Him longer. Hear one Voice today.

Today the holy Word of God is kept through your receiving it to give away, so you can teach the world what giving means by listening and learning it of Him. Do not forget today to reinforce your choice to hear and to receive the Word by this reminder, given to yourself as often as is possible today:

Let me be still and listen to the truth.
I am the messenger of God today,
My voice is His, to give what I receive. (A Course in Miracles Workbook Lesson 106,W-pI.106.3;10. See also ACIM Lesson 106 Insights.)

There is no greater joy than to be a messenger of God. God’s message is always one of Love, peace and joy. To give this message, we must receive it for ourselves. As we accept the truth that God’s Love, peace and joy is ours, always, our gratitude overflows and we automatically share God’s Love, peace and joy.

This is our joyous mission today: To see with the eyes of Love today and join in joy with the Love that is in everyone. This is a direct path to enlightenment. It is the way we remember we are one Self, united wit our Creator. We can receive and give no other gift but this in truth.
